Duke Micah primed to beat Chanda for Commonwealth title

Ghana’s Duke Micah (18-0, 17 KOs) says he is ready to wrestle away the Commonwealth Bantamweight belt when he steps into the ring against UK based Zambian, Matthew Chanda (7-0, 3 KOs) come Saturday night at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London.

The countdown is almost over to fight night with the weigh-in set for Friday and the Ghanaian is in high spirits promising to etch his name in the records as the latest pugilist from the West African country to follow in the footsteps of among them Azumah Nelson, Joseph Agbeko and Richard Commey by winning the Commonwealth title.

Danny Garcia: I’m going to give the fans a great fight

Days before he enters the ring to fight in his hometown, undefeated world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia opened up his DSG Boxing Gym to media on Wednesday as he prepares to face Colombia’s Samuel Vargas in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions on Spike Saturday, November 12 from Temple University’s Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.

Coverage on Spike begins at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT and features undefeated rising star Jarrett Hurd battling former title challenger Jo Jo Dan plus former world champion Javier Fortuna taking on unbeaten Omar Douglas.

Wilder both hopes and thinks Fury will fight again – wants a showdown, belt or no belt

Will Tyson Fury fight again, and if so will he be anything like the force he was a year ago? It was twelve months ago this month when unbeaten contender Fury went from contender to world champion, defeating Wladimir Klitschko in one of British boxing’s finest victories. Since then, however, it’s been all downhill for Fury.

Weight gain, a lack of desire, huge amounts of controversy as a result of speaking his mind and, finally, mental health issues. Tyson experienced the lot and these events resulted in Fury being stripped of his belts, with him possibly seeing his career ended. Some feel this will not be the case, insisting the 28-year-old will come again; while others feel we will never see Fury inside a boxing ring again. Plenty of people want Fury back though – not least WBC heavyweight king Deontay Wilder.

Joseph Parker’s promoter Dean Lonergan: Joseph blasts David Haye in two or three rounds

Unbeaten New Zealander has not yet fought Andy Ruiz Jnr, but the Kiwi’s promoter Dean Lonergan is already looking at what might come after the December 10 bout that will contest the vacant WBO heavyweight title. Speaking with Sky Sports, Lonergan said that while he expects Ruiz Jnr, also undefeated, to give his fighter “a pretty tough fight,” he fully believes Parker will “blast through David Haye in two or three rounds.”

Why is Lonergan thinking and talking about Haye – because the former WBA heavyweight champ is in line to have first crack at the winner of the Parker-Ruiz Jnr fight. Haye recently saw how a WBO ruling called for the Parker-Ruiz winner to make their first defence against him within 120 days of winning the belt. Lonergan says that as far as he is concerned, the Parker-Ruiz winner will fight Haye next.

Alexander Povetkin-Bermane Stiverne will take place in Russia, December 17th

The final two months of 2016 are shaping up to be very eventful in boxing, perhaps making up for what has generally been viewed as a pretty lacklustre year overall. In particular, the heavyweight division has been slow and lacking in big fights, due of course to the unfortunate circumstances with troubled, now former champ Tyson Fury.

But now, with interesting title fights such as Lucas Browne-Shannon Briggs, Joseph Parker-Andy Ruiz Jnr and Wladimir Klitschko-Anthony Joshua either set or in the works (the Joshua-Klitschko fight pencilled in for next March – providing AJ beats Eric Molina on December 10, this being an interesting second defence for the reigning IBF champ) the division is moving again.
