Happy Birthday, James Toney – where does “Lights Out” rank all-time?
Boxing great James Toney celebrates his 49th birthday today, yet we do not know for sure if his fighting career has yet reached its end. Back in May, “Lights Out” fought what was dubbed his “final” fight, stopping journeyman Mike Sheppard in a heavyweight bout.
But the lure of one more fight is there for Toney as it is for every fighter who finds it so incredibly hard to walk away. I messaged Toney’s manager John Arthur shortly after the Sheppard win, asking him if it really was the end for his fighter:

Floyd vs Conor: A Preview of “The Money Fight”
Floyd Mayweather Jr. made his professional debut 21 years ago and wasn’t a novice even then, he was a schooled and proven amateur with Olympic silver for credentials. He started as a super featherweight and grew up to (super) welterweight. This time the fight is contracted at light middleweight or 154 lbs., a comfortable limit considering the two years of inactivity/retirement for the boxing superstar.
Conor McGregor has some amateur boxing background but no official boxing fights to his name. He is an MMA phenomenon stretching his skills from 145 lbs to 170 lbs and has provided exciting fights garnished with foul language to keep the masses exhilarated. His strength as a martial artist is striking, especially hand strikes and he excels in his stand-up game against all comers in MMA.
Spike O’Sullivan “I’m sharpening my tools for war” – fight with Gabriel Rosado close for Sep 30 in Boston
Philadelphia’s Gabriel Rosado is scarcely in a dull fight while the same thing could be said of Cork, Ireland’s Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan, and the two middleweight warriors are reportedly very close to swapping leather in a fight next month.
According to the twice-beaten O’Sullivan (the losses coming at the hands of Chris Eubank Junior and before that Billy Joe Saunders) he and Rosado are close to signing on for a fight that will headline a Golden Boy card on ESPN in Boston on Sep 30. Seemingly a terrific match-up that would deliver terrific action, this in the works battle will hopefully come off.

William Hill are starting to see large five, six and even seven figure wagers on Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather to beat ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor in the mega-fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The biggest bet was taken overnight when a punter placed a $1.2 Million bet on the Money man at odds of 1/5 – and stands to pocket $240,000 should the unbeaten king of boxing prevail.
The “Great White Hype” & The Fight For Fifty- Why Floyd Mayweather Deserves To Break Marciano’s record!
… Even if it is against a completely unworthy opponent.
This Saturday Floyd Mayweather has a chance to break the unbeaten record of 49-0 set by heavyweight champ Rocky Marciano and while I certainly won’t fork over money to watch what I feel will not be a competitive fight I am rooting for the fighter Mayweather (not the person. Don’t know him or care to know him) to win and become the new benchmark at 50-0.
