Eddie Hearn weighs in on the controversial Rose stoppage

YouTube video
Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Matchroom Sports had an interview with IFL TV this Monday after the 1st round stoppage of former world title challenger Brian Rose. Rose stepped in with journeyman Carson Jones who has been remembered after 2 losses to IBF champion Kell Brook. After an awfully bad start for Jones, which saw him rocked, and hurt early, he then would come back and win by TKO in the same round. Rose was certainly hurt in the fight, but the stoppage was controversial as he was not given a chance to fight back or prove that he was in position to survive the round and come out again for the second. Usually you see experienced fighters like Rose given a moment to see where they are at before the referee jumps in.

Eddie Hearn: DeGale announcement coming next week

Eddie Hearn: DeGale announcement coming next week

In an interview with IFL TV Eddie Hearn said that he was looking to have the DeGale- Andre Dirrell fight in the UK on April 25th and was confident that he could make that happen. He said regardless of whether they can make that date happen, he is looking to finalize the deal and would make an announcement in a weeks time. This announcement should lay out most of the details of that show and what the card will be made of and detail what the situation is between DeGale and Dirrell.

This is a great fight between two once beaten fighters, which will provide a new IBF champion regardless of who wins. Certainly this is a tough fight for the pair of them due to their styles, but an impressive win could set up a string of super fights against the other talents in the division such as George Groves, Anthony Dirrell, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and even Andre Ward.

Ovill McKenzie: Substance over style

It’s a sad statement of fact that in boxing a controversial public persona – or an image – can propel a fighter to levels and fights where they don’t belong.

Anthony Joshua back in the gym

Anthony Joshua is back in the gym in training for his April fight. Joshua took a little time off from his busy fight schedule after discovering a stress fracture in his back.

Now Joshua is back in the gym sparring, training and getting prepared for his bout on April 4th. After that he is expected to take part in the Kevin Johnson fight, therefore the TBE opponent we will see him fight next likely wont be a dangerous puncher or someone capable of upsetting Joshua as that would spoil the Johnson fight and end the Joshua express.
