Froch beats Kessler, avenges his previous loss

froch300IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) avenged his earlier defeat to WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) by beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision tonight in front of a packed O2 Arena in London, England. Both fighters ended getting hurt with big shots before the fight was done, but in the end Froch did enough to win a 12 round unanimous decision.

After the fight Froch said “He was there to hurt me on a couple of occasions he did hurt me, but I hit him with the bigger shots and I was close to the knockout in the end. I’m really, really happy. I just kept at range with the jab all night long.”

Froch decisions Kessler

froch2000IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) labored to a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night over WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KO’s) at the O2 Arena in London, UK. The judges scored the fight 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113. The last score was the more accurate score compared to the other two.

Froch barely beat Kessler. Had Kessler won the 12th round, I would have scored it a draw. It was pretty sad scoring of the fight. Neither looked good. You can’t say Froch looked good because he spent the entire night missing punches and throwing a limp jab that would have been easily countered by a good fighter like Andre Ward.

Mosley defeats Cano

mosley445(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) Shane Mosley (47-8-1, 39 KO’s) found the fountain of youth on Saturday night in defeating the tough but limited Mexican fighter Pablo Cesar Cano (26-3-1, 20 KO’s) in winning a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 115-113, 115-113 and 115-113 at the Grand Oasis Resort, in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Mosley was able to land a lot of his power shots tonight, and he gave Cano constant problems with shots as well as with his jabs. Cano was game and despite fighting poorly, he was able to come back late in the fight to stagger Mosley in the 9th round with a hard right hand. Three rounds earlier, Mosley had hurt Cano with a series of hard shots in the 6th.

Matthysse stops Peterson in 3rd; Alexander defeats Purdy

matthysse33Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) totally destroyed Lamont Peterson (31-2-1, 16 KO’s) in a 3rd round knockout on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Matthysse dropped Peterson three times, once in the 2nd and twice more in the 3rd to get the stoppage. All three knockdowns came from left hooks to the head from Matthysse.

DeGale defeats Demers, says he’ll be world champ by end of year

Super middleweight contender James DeGale (15-1, 10 KO’s) totally annihilated Canadian fighter Sebastien Demers (31-6, 11 KO’s) in the 2nd round in a fight that arguably should have never been made in the first place on Friday night at the Hilton Lac Leamy, Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. The ending of the fight was a simple one; DeGale hit Demers with a left uppercut and Demers reacted to the shot by turning his back on DeGale and walking several feet and then taking a knee.

Burns defeats Gonzalez in injury stoppage

WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) defeated previously unbeaten challenger Jose Gonzalez (22-1, 17 KO’s) by a stoppage after the 9th round tonight when Gonzalez quit on his stool, complaining of an injury to his left wrist at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

McDonnell defeats Ceja

Using movement, a nice jab and some skillful roughhouse tactics, bantamweight contender Jaime McDonnell (21-2-1, 9 KO’s) defeated Julio Ceja (24-1, 22 KO) tonight by a 12 round unanimous decision to win the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight ttile at the Keepmoat Stadium, in Doncaster, United Kingdom.

Mayweather dominates Guerrero; Mares stops De Leon

WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) totally dominated Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The judges all had the fight scored 117-111, 117-111, 117-111.

Mayweather was too slick, too quick and too good for Guerrero. His fast hands were too much for Guerrero and had him fighting in a cautious manner instead of his usual aggressive manner. When he did try and come forward, Guerrero kept walking into hard right hands. Mayweather was in complete control of the fight.

Mayweather looked like he was in the process of breaking Guerrero in the 8th round when he was hammering him with right hands. Mayweather didn’t continue to tag Guerrero with big right hands after this found. Mayweather later revealed that he had injured his right hand and he couldn’t use to try and finish Guerrero off.
