Peter Quillin: Golovkin and I is like ‘Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather’

In an interview with FightHype, former middleweight strap holder Peter Quillin compared a potential fight between himself and Gennady Golovkin to the superfight coming in May between Floyd and Pacquiao. What I take away from this is the fact that it would be two of the top guys in one weight class going into a hyped up bout and generating a lot of money at the same time. The comparisons pretty much end there because the past accomplishments of those guys to these middleweights cannot be compared and the scale of the fight certainly cannot either.

Carl Frampton made the first defense of the IBF Super Bantamweight title with a 5th round stoppage over American mandatory challenger Chris Avalos in front of a sold out crowd of nearly 10,000 at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The championship bout was televised on AWE-A Wealth of Entertatinment.

After a clinch in round two, Frampton drilled Avalos with a left hook while Avalos thought there was a time out. That shot split Avlaos’ lip. Frampton continued to land hard one-two combinations. Frampton showed some battle scars as he started to develop a a mouse around the right eye.

Miguel Cotto’s Next Fight

Miguel Cotto, the first and only boxer from Puerto Rico to win titles in four weight classes will be announcing his next fight sometime this coming week. Cotto once made the comment: “I am Miguel Cotto and I will fight anyone”. He backed up his words by taking on fighters such as Judah, Margarito, Mosley, Pacquiao and so on. Some of the fighters Cottto took on were actually avoided by fighters who are so called the greatest ever. One fight that Cotto deserves credit for was when he fought Margarito for the first time. Even though he lost the fight via TKO, many believe it was due to the use of allegedly plastered gloves that Margarito was later accused of using.

Rumor: WBA Orders Ward-Froch Rematch within 120 Days

Joe Latti, Brick City Boxing – Andre Ward has received scrutiny in his career for not defending his titles as often as many would like. Last week when “The Ring” stripped the super middleweight of his Ring Champion belt and rankings for not defending his title against a top 5 contender the past two years. Rumors and speculation are flying around Twitter this morning as there are talks of a press release that was sent out that says the WBA has ordered Andre Ward (27-0, 1 KO) and Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KO) to square off again. The two parties were told they have 30 days to reach an agreement, and fight within 120 days or they will send the contest purse out for bidding.

Lucas Browne About To Make History Again.. “Big Daddy” Browne named mandatory for Ruslan Chagaev’s belt

Lucas Browne About To Make History Again.. "Big Daddy" Browne named mandatory for Ruslan Chagaev's belt

It has been a long, painful and sometimes frustrating road for Browne, however now his faith in his own ability and destiny has been repaid after WBA chairman Gilberto Mendoza mandated on Wednesday that Chagaev’s representatives have 30 days to negotiate the fight with Browne.

Although Lucas is a very approachable and pleasant man outside the ring he looks like he’d eat your Granny in the ring.

Lucas Browne is the former MMA fighter, who won his first boxing contest in 2009 by KO. That has become a familiar outcome for many of his fights since, his record now stands at 22 fights, 22 wins, 19 of which have come by KO or stoppage. Of those 19, only 18 have heard the bell for the start of the 6th round. Impressive stats by anyone’s standards. Whilst he would agree himself he isn’t Ali, he has tremendous ability, huge power, is trained by Jeff Fenech and promoted by Ricky Hatton via Hatton Promotions.

Is Floyd Mayweather really a modern great?

Is Floyd Mayweather really a modern great?

Boxing is a sport where real men, such as myself, compete with other guys for rewards like money, respect and lots of women. Floyd Mayweather has lots of money, possibly gets tons of women but he does not have the respect of other modern greats such as someone like, I don’t know, his next opponent Many Pacquiao. His greatness is definitely questionable. The reasons for this are numerous and are as easily notable as desirable traits in women (youth, beauty and large boobies). One thing people like in their champions is for them to be British, which he isn’t. If you’re not British you definitely have to overcome inferior DNA to excel at boxing although you may be blessed with better teeth. All the best guys have been British, heck even Roy Jones Jr said he would fit right in somewhere in Wales because of his name. In this article I will outline reasons I believe Floyd Mayweather may not be a modern day great boxer using other modern greats as a comparison.

Mayweather Jr. vs. Pacquiao: Boxing celebrities pick the winner!

Mayweather Jr. vs. Pacquiao: Boxing celebrities pick the winner!

Today is February 26, 2015, and it has been six days since Floyd Mayweather Jr. posted an image of the signed fight contract for his bout against Manny Pacquiao. It is also 65 days until the first round bell rings for one of the most anticipated fights in the history of the spot. As always the case, the main question at hand is: who is going to win?

“The only thing I hope, that the young cat Mayweather, I hope they do give him his proper credit. Now he’s fighting Pacquiao, and what can you say? And if he should beat Pacquiao, now can you say he’s the greatest of all time? Do you have a problem with him saying it then, or does he have to dig up Ray Robinson too?” said Naazim Richardson via Hustleboss.com. While Naazim doesn’t clearly indicate his pick, he has always been fond of Mayweather Jr., and the fact that Richardson brings up the possibility that Mayweather Jr. could possibly be the greatest of all time, speaks for his judgment of the undefeated champion.

Jeff Mayweather – If Mayweather had fought Algieri ‘they would have crucified him’

Jeff Mayweather – If Mayweather had fought Algieri ‘they would have crucified him’

In a talk with ESNEWS, Jeff Mayweather spoke on a glaring double standard that separates two of the top fighters in the sport – Floyd and Manny. It is my opinion that Mayweathers detractors are so hungry to see Floyd lose they will create a fighter who can beat him in their minds, even if he does not exist in the real world. By this I mean overhyping Pacquiao and talking him up to the point where casual fans really believe this is a 50/50 fight. It’s rare that you get a real 50/50 fight in boxing; this is not one of them.

A comparison between the opposition faced by these two guys was fair for a period. The pacman beat some legends in his time, particularly when he was moving through the lower weight classes and picking up titles left right and centre.
