Shane Mosley: GGG vs. Canelo on 9/17/2016!

With GGG knocking out Dominic Wade, and Canelo doing likewise in his bout against Amir Khan this past Saturday night, their matchup was absolutely essential for the sport of boxing.

Sometimes all roads lead to Rome, and other times they lead to one of the most exciting middleweight bouts in boxing history. Even with their recent victories, many boxing fans and pugilists has their doubts that these two will step into the ring to face each other anytime soon. As of now is no official word on negotiations, let alone a signed contract. At times BoxRec has been known to post upcoming fights before any announcements, and thus far there is nothing under either fighter’s profile. Nevertheless, Sugar Shane Mosley took his ‘mum’s the word’ information to Twitter:

WBA “will not interfere with Golovkin-Canelo negotiations” but if super-fight cannot get made, GGG must fight Daniel Jacobs

Gennady Golovkin-Saul Canelo Alvarez: it’s super-fight absolutely everyone is desperate to see, so much so that the WBA will not get in the way as the negotiations for the mega-fight take place. In the past, fight fans have grown weary of how one organisation or another has ordered a fighter to defend his title against a lesser foe simply because they place him in their rankings. This, on occasion, has prevented a much better fight, one the fans really wanted to see, from taking place.

Matthew Macklin statement regarding his retirement

Matthew Macklin statement regarding his retirement

by Matthew Macklin: Last month, at the O2 Arena in London, around the half way point in my fight with Brian Rose, I knew it was time to retire. My face was marking up, I was getting frustrated at not being able to land my shots and I knew that physically, after a long career my body was telling me that enough was enough. I also knew that I didn’t want to go out like that so with the help of my brother Seamus I decided to end my career on my terms and pulled the win out of the bag in the last few rounds. Deep down I came to the realisation on the night that it was probably going to be my last fight. I turn 34 in two days time and, after much reflection I have decided that following 24 years in the sport, over 80 amateur fights and 41 professional fights, it is time to hang up my gloves.

The Cruiserweight Division: No Longer a Pit Stop?

The Cruiserweight Division: No Longer a Pit Stop?

On December 8, 1979, the WBC held a title bout between Marvin Camel and Mate Parlov to anoint a champion in a new division called, “Cruiserweight.” Created to narrow the gap between light heavy weights and heavyweights, thedivision began in less – then – inaugural fashion when the two fighters fought to a draw. Though Camel would go on to win a rematch and later, also become the first IBF cruiserweight champion, what seemed like a logical idea never caught on with the public who were already turned off by emerging sanctioning bodies. Additional weight classes only added to the confusion (little did we know what we were in for with all of this idiotic “regular” and super” champion nonsense).

Pacquiao wins Senate seat, Arum now convinced Pac-Man has boxed his last fight

Pacquiao wins Senate seat, Arum now convinced Pac-Man has boxed his last fight

Retired superstar Manny Pacquiao, who, reports from Manila say is now a Senator, will almost certainly have his hands full with his political duties; so much so that he will not fight again. So says his long time promoter Bob Arum in speaking with RingTV.com. It is now not out of the realms of possibility that Pacquiao will get as far as becoming President of his country; this being an honour that would surpass anything the 37-year-old superstar accomplished in the ring.

It really does look like we can now forget about any talk of the possibility of “one more fight” from the eight-weight king. Pacquiao told us upon entering his rubber-match with Tim Bradley in April that this would be his final ring appearance, but millions of fight fans chose not to believe him. Then, with less than a month gone into his retirement, there was talk of how Pacquiao and the also retired Floyd Mayweather Junior would hook up again, in a second mega-money fight. This now looks extremely unlikely (if it didn’t before) as Manny will have no choice but to channel all of his efforts, all of his time and all of his passion into politics; his real love.

Danny Garcia open to fighting Amir Khan again, but warns Khan it would be a “dumb decision” to take the rematch

Danny Garcia open to fighting Amir Khan again, but warns Khan it would be a “dumb decision” to take the rematch

As fans know, the recently defeated Amir Khan, who was crushed after a game effort against middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez, is the number-one contender for the WBC welterweight title held by Danny Garcia. Khan, who has ruled out retirement, has expressed interest in taking a second fight with Garcia, who stopped him inside 4-rounds back in 2012. With his mandatory position, Khan perhaps looks at a revenge fight as a possible quick route back to the top. Yet a number of people, Garcia included, naturally, feel another nasty KO loss would be what Khan would get if he faced Garcia again.
