Tyson Fury’s promoter seems to know more than his fighters does! Just this past Saturday, when speaking with Sky Sports, the heavyweight champion said he had “no idea” who, when or where he was fighting next. But today, in speaking with Sky Sports himself, Fury’s promoter, Mick Hennessey, confirmed it will be Klitschko next for Fury, in the contracted rematch.

“It’s definitely Wladimir in the rematch, 100-percent,” Hennessey said. “That’s the fight that we want and for us, it’s the only fight and the main fight in the heavyweight division. There are a lot more splintered titles and a lot of people fighting for them and calling it the heavyweight championship, but there’s only one lineal champion and that’s Tyson Fury.”

Hennessey was almost certainly having a sly dig at the upcoming Charles Martin-Anthony Joshua fight, that will contest the IBF belt that was, in the opinion of most, unfairly stripped from Fury just days after he’d upset to Klitschko to win it (along with the other belts Fury sensationally relieved Klitschko of back in November) and the promoter is right when he says there is only one real heavyweight champ. But when, and where, will Fury make the first defence of his title?

Hennessey told Sky Sports that the issues holding up the rematch are the venue – with offers having come in from both the east coast and the west coast of America, the UAE and Germany and the UK – and the date. Hopefully, now that we at least know Fury WILL fight Klitschko in a rematch next, the date and venue will be nailed down soon.

Regarding Anthony Joshua, Hennessey said Fury is on a “completely different level” than the unbeaten 2012 Olympian, but that his fighter would “relish” a big-money fight with the Londoner if he can maintain his unbeaten record. That’s one possible fight for the future, but as for the immediate future, fans everywhere want to see if, A: Fury can defeat Klitschko again, proving his first win was no fluke, or, B: Wladimir can reverse the bad night at the office he had after an 11-year run of dominance.

Hennessey has no doubt about the result in the rematch, and he believes Fury can go one better in the return and knock Klitschko out. A bold prediction, but not one that can in any way be ruled out. It’s up to Klitschko to improve on his last performance.
