Sheffield star finally gets his World title shot on August 16

Kell Brook has vowed to prove he is a World class fighter by ripping the IBF Welterweight crown from Shawn Porter when they clash at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on August 16.

Brook has had to bide his time for his first World title fight with three clashes against previous champion Devon Alexander cancelled through injury to both men.

The unbeaten Sheffield star will travel to America in two weeks’ time to complete his training camp, and Brook says that the time has come to show the world he belongs at the very top.

Kell Brook vs Shawn Porter – early thoughts and prediction

Kell Brook vs Shawn Porter – early thoughts and prediction

The scheduled match-up between Kell Brook and Shawn Porter is a highly intriguing one; both are unbeaten, spearheading the uprising talent, in the welterweight division, from the UK and the US respectively. For Kell Brook, the pressure is especially intense given that he’s long chased an Amir Khan bout, pulled out of a Devon Alexander clash (who Porter previously toppled), and yet remains relatively untested. Add all of these ingredients to the contrasting fight-styles of these combatants, and it’s easy to foresee a highly entertaining, explosive fight.

Shawn Porter’s style is unorthodox. He’s short but powerfully built. In the ring he stays on the outside, well outside of his opponent’s range, and cleverly accentuates his lack of height by keeping low. Then, almost cobra-like, he’ll literally launch himself into his opponent with straight punches and bombarding them with body shots on the inside. His style does bear similarities to Pacquiao of old, where he uses the element of surprise by jumping in with hard straight shots. It’s actually quite fitting that they were former sparring partners. However, unlike Pacquiao, Porter likes to fight inside. He can also use both hands and bends at the waist. His arsenal together with his awkward style makes him a very tricky opponent.

Hearn wants Khan for Brook if he gets passed Shawn Porter

Hearn wants Khan for Brook if he gets passed Shawn Porter

Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO’s) hasn’t yet passed his test against IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO’s), but his promoter Eddie Hearn already has the first fight he wants for Brook’s initial title defense for the IBF belt and that’s against Amir Khan.

Hearn has been after Khan for a long time now in trying to get him to agree to a fight against Brook, and finally he’s on the verge of having the bait to get Khan to agree to a fight. With the IBF title, Brook may get the Khan fight, but winning that belt won’t be easy. Porter has an aggressive fighting style that Brook has never seen before, he’s considerably better than the best opponents – Vyacheslav Senchenko and Carson Jones – which Brook has fought before.

Will Floyd Mayweather risk a fight with one of the young guns? Thurman and Porter breaking through at 147

Will Floyd Mayweather risk a fight with one of the young guns? Thurman and Porter breaking through at 147

Today’s welterweight division is almost ridiculously talented, with the 147-pound weight class being stacked with excellent fighters. Floyd Mayweather Junior is of course the king of the hill, and any fighter from 140 to 147 (and 154-pounds also) is gunning for that life changing payday. But 154 aside, Mayweather has more than enough potential challengers at welterweight.

Over the past few months, two welterweight young guns have really broken through and impressed: Shawn Porter and Keith Thurman. Both guys are talented, fast (Thurman especially) and powerful (Porter especially). Helping make an already exciting weight class that much more exciting – with top class operators Tim Bradley, Manny Pacquiao and (expected to move up from 140 any time now) Danny Garcia also fighting at 147 – Thurman and Porter have some people thinking they are capable of testing Floyd and testing him hard. But will Mayweather, who next faces the powerful yet slow-footed Marcos Maidana, an 11-1 underdog, risk a fight with one of the young guns who are hungry for the ultimate challenge?

Malignaggi vs. Porter: Which Shawn "Showtime" Porter will show up against the Magic Man in DC?

Paulie Malignaggi challenges Shawn Porter for Porter’s IBF Welterweight belt that he won off Devon Alexander last December. The inconsistent Porter looked much improved but can he put his skill and strengths together in back to back performances?

This co-feature fight could go either way with Porter being the betting favorite amongst fans, writers, and betting sites. The style matchup and how it will play out has been bouncing around my brain for some time now to the point that I’m still pulling my decision as I write this article.

Paulie Malignaggi’s career accomplishments fit the “Magic Man” nickname perfectly. A guy with no power to speak of yet still was able to make the fighters and fans respect him.

Paulie Malignaggi ready for Shawn Porter

Paulie Malignaggi has vowed to claim his third world title this weekend after he felt he was unjustly stripped of his belt against brash-talking Adrien Broner.

The Brooklyn star goes in against the newly crowned IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter this Saturday night, live on BoxNation, on a stacked card headlined by the ageless Bernard Hopkins who faces Beibut Shumenov in a light-heavyweight world title unification.

But, it is the matchup between the slick Malignaggi and the all-action Porter which has the potential to steal the show, with the seasoned New Yorker adamant that he will bounce back to win his third world title following the loss of his WBA crown to Broner last year.
