Kevin H. (Atlanta, GA): As an Adrien Broner fan, I think his loss to Porter was more of what he didn’t do than what Porter did. How did you rate his performance and where do you think he goes next?

Vivek W. (ESB): I would have to totally disagree. To the contrary, I think what we witnessed last Saturday night had everything to do with what Porter did, more so than what Broner “didn’t do”. Going into the fight, Porter had the entire deck of cards stacked against him. Everything from the catchweight clause, to the pulse of the promotion itself. It just seemed that all elements involved tilted towards Broner. Few places in life breed absolute truth like a boxing ring. In dialog, any man can speak big and paint a scripted picture. But in the ring, there’s no way to avoid the evolution of reality.

Shawn “Showtime” Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) fought a good fight and deserved his unanimous decision win over Adrien “The Problem” Broner (30-2-0, 22 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV. He pressed the action and threw and landed more punches. The judges had no choice but to award him the win. Respectful of his conquered opponent, Shawn explained his win was over a very good fighter, a champion, and he feels it should earn him the right to a fight with Floyd “TBE” Mayweather, Jr., right? Well, that decision is in the hands of one man, and that man is TBE. It’s not likely TBE will select Showtime to be his final opponent. He has bigger fish to fry.
Saturday Broner threw harder, shorter and more accurate punches, just not enough of them to warrant a win. Why he chose to wrestle with Porter is a mystery. He might have mistakenly thought such tactics would eventually slow down Porter, enabling him to gain a later rounds advantage.

(Photo credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) LAS VEGAS (June 20, 2015) – “Showtime” Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) outworked and out-landed Adrien “The Problem” Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) on his way to a unanimous decision victory on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC in front of 8,138 fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night.

In a fight dubbed “The Battle for Ohio”, the Akron-born Porter threw 590 punches compared to the 309 thrown by the Cincinnati-native Broner. Porter landed 149 punches compared to 88 from Broner.

This is especially true of professional sports in which human beings have forever sought to gain an unfair advantage in a perceived fair world.

There are few sports to which this statement can be most aptly applied down the years than boxing. That’s not to say other sports don’t have their problems, corruption is of course prevalent in almost all walks of life and all forms of business in modern society.

Adrien “The Problem” Broner faces “Showtime” Shawn Porter for Ohio bragging rights not to mention a large step forward on the ladder to stardom. The fight takes place at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas and will be broadcasted live on NBC. A catchweight has been implored by Broner in efforts to reduce Porter’s strength and stamina. Can Broner effectively play matador to Porter’s bull rush in a game of catch the predator?

Talking to fighthype.com about Broner’s antics, Porter was adamant that he won’t let “The Problem” get under his skin. Asked if he felt that was Broner’s intention with the verbal barbs he directed towards the former IBF champion and father Kenny, “Showtime” said;

Speaking at this week’s media scrum via fighthub Broner appeared to be talking the talk, seemingly suggesting that Porter sees the fight – and “The Problem” – as his big shot.
