The Dillian Whyte conundrum – who will fight him?

British heavyweight Dillian Whyte is far from the best heavyweight in the world; he has been brutally KO’d by current WBA/IBF champ Anthony Joshua and he has laboured, at least a bit, during some of his winning fights. But what Whyte is, or what he appears to be, is a fighter willing to take on all comers, to fight the best.

Of course Whyte wants the most lucrative fights out there and of course he says a world title shot, should one come up, would take precedent over any other fight. But Whyte believes in himself and in his talents.

Promoter Eddie Hearn wants it, recently stating how it “has to happen,” the fans sure want it, due to how great the first fight was, and it seems we could perhaps see a return battle between British heavyweights Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora – and wouldn’t it be great if we saw it take place on the under-card of the upcoming October 28 fight between heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua and Kubrat Pulev?

There was plenty of fine body punching on display in Nebraska last night, as Terence Crawford crushed Julius Indongo with a wicked body shot in the evening’s main event, and as heavyweight Dillian Whyte showed his body shot handiwork on the under-card.

Boxing his US debut, the British heavyweight was, as expected, too much for journeyman late replacement (for original foe Michael Grant) opponent Malcolm Tann. Whyte, beaten only by Anthony Joshua at pro level, stopped Tann in the 3rd round, sending him down a total of four times along the way. And after his easy yet quite impressive win, Whyte predicted how WBC heavyweight king Deontay Wilder “will fall after three or four rounds” if he agrees to face him any time soon.

In a showcase fight, unbeaten the NABF and NABO light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (14-0, 12 KOs) defeated the capable Craig Baker (17-2, 13 KOs) by a 6th round knockout on the undercard of the Terence Crawford vs. Julius Indongo card on Saturday night at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Gvozdyk vs. Baker fight was televised on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Gvozdyk, 30, put Baker down on the canvas with a right hand in round 6. The fight was stopped after Baker got back to his feet and took some punishing blows from Gvozdyk.

Amidst all the hype and build-up surrounding August 26th’s “Super Fight” between boxing great Floyd Mayweather and MMA star Conor McGregor, more names from both disciplines are talking about switching sports.

Dillian Whyte keeps talking about Anthony Joshua and about that which he is convinced would happen if he got the opportunity to fight AJ again (Whyte having lost via 7th round KO in a thrilling fight back in December of 2015). But Whyte says he is happy that Joshua is still talking about him, too.

Speaking with Sky Sports ahead of his US debut next Saturday on the Terence Crawford-Julius Indongo bill, “The Body Snatcher” said that Joshua “talks rubbish” and is not the tough guy he makes out he is whenever he is around. Whyte, chasing a world title, which he hopes will lead him to a return shot at AJ (who will next defend his IBF belt against Kubrat Pulev, and after that his WBA belt against Luis Ortiz; this the most likely scenario anyway) is sure he will get revenge if the second fight happens.

Dillian Whyte has defended the credentials of his upcoming opponent Malcolm Tann, who “The Body Snatcher” will fight, in his US debut, on the big Terence Crawford-Julius Indongo card on August 19. Though Tann has had just two fights in the last nine years, one win and one loss, Whyte says his 6’6” foe will provide him with added experience as far as fighting big guys goes.

Whyte, in speaking with Sky Sports, also made clear his intentions of keeping himself active from now on; with two more fights planned for after the Tann bout.

British heavyweight Dillian Whte was all set to face veteran former contender Michael Grant in his US debut set for August 19 on the under-card of the big 140 pound unification showdown between Terence Crawford and Julius indongo. But that terrible match-up was scratched because, well, it was terrible – Grant being largely inactive and not having won a meaningful fight in years.

Talk about a perfectly natural heavyweight elimination bout to make! Jarrell Miller, unbeaten at 19-0-1, exciting, powerful, big, and a big, big talker. Dillian Whyte, once-beaten (by current WBA/IBF heavyweight king Anthony Joshua is a great action battle), powerful, aggressive, and a big, big talker.

These two have called one another out, Miller before his Saturday stoppage win over Gerald Washington, Whyte shortly after watching “Big Baby’s” latest performance, and there really seems to be no reason why this match-up cannot be made and soon.

British heavyweight and top contender Dillian Whyte, 20-1(15) will make his US debut on August 19, as he will fight on the big 140 pound unification showdown between Terence Crawford and Julius Indongo. But those fans who were hoping the 29 year old “Body Snatcher” would look to make a splash by way of tackling a formidable foe can forget it.

Whyte is scheduled to face, get this – 44 year old former contender Michael Grant, 48-7(36). The bout is optimistically scheduled for eight rounds according to invaluable boxing site BoxRec. Okay, as a tune-up affair, Whyte was never going to risk his career, but Grant, really? In his day, sure, Grant, all 6’7” of him, would have given Whyte all the trouble he could handle. But today, coming off three straight stoppage losses, Grant looks like mere cannon fodder for Dillian.
