Today at the final press conference to promote this Saturday’s Dereck Chisora-Dillian Whyte clash for the British heavyweight crown, things got well and truly nasty. Chisoa, angered at an apparent “death threat” hurled at him from his bitter rival (no, seriously, fight fans, in this day and age of pre-fight shenanigans, some staged, others not, this particular feud is as REAL as it gets) suddenly picked up a portion of the head table and threw it at Whyte; with it just missing promoter Eddie Hearn’s head.

Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora had to be separated by security and filming was halted at Sky Sports studios this evening as they faced-off in the ‘Gloves Are Off’ ahead of their WBC World Heavyweight title eliminator at the Manchester Arena on December 10, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and on SHOWTIME in the US.

The bitter London rivals sat face-to-face for 22 tension-filled minutes of filming with Johnny Nelson the man in the middle, before Whyte accused Chisora of ducking a clash with Anthony Joshua – lighting the fuse for the pair to leap to their feet, leading to security stepping in and filming ending.

Bitter heavyweight rivals Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte came face to face today at a press conference to further promote a British heavyweight title fight that in truth needs no further hype. These two DO NOT like one another and even if reigning British champ Whyte has made a habit of engaging in a war of words, verbally attacking a number of his previous opponents, the simmering intensity between these two is as real as it gets.

Before today’s presser, promoter Eddie Hearn was admittedly concerned over the two big men coming to blows or doing something generally crazy. This, thankfully did not happen (although these two have been involved in out-of-the-ring shenanigans before; remember Chisora’s infamous “bottle” incident with David Haye in Germany?)

If Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn pulls this off he will be a guaranteed Promoter of The Year award winner in Britain this year. The big plans that are currently underway are for THREE big heavyweight fights to take place on the same night in Cardiff, Wales in either November or December of this year.

According to a news piece in The Mail, Hearn is working, along with others, on staging Anthony Joshua’s second title defence, Joseph Parker against David Price and Dereck Chisora against Dillian Whyte, all at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. The word now is Bulgaria’s Kubrat Pulev, the current European heavyweight champion, is the frontrunner to land the shot at IBF boss Joshua. This fight, a solid match-up that could well provide A.J with his stiffest pro test thus far in his career, would be supported in fine style if the other two in-the-works match-ups get made.

A Dereck Chisora-Dillian Whyte clash has been bubbling under for quite a while now, and the grudge-match, crossroads fight could happen this year. These two do not like each other and when Sam Sexton reportedly pulled out of a planned British heavyweight title fight with Whyte, Chisora immediately called Whyte out again.

Whyte, beaten only by IBF heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua, is the heavyweight on the rise in this particular match-up, while Chisora, who is coming off a loss to Kubrat Pulev, is seen by many as being on the way down. Still, Chisora has great experience and he seems convinced he has the beating of the man four years his junior.

Dereck Chisora is no stranger to controversy and the Londoner is also, apparently, not lacking in reserves of energy. It was just over two weeks ago when “Del Boy” was comprehensively beaten on points by Kubrat Pulev in an unsuccessful challenge for the vacant European title (forget the split decision, this was a clear win for the Bulgarian) – despite this, yesterday, as fellow British big man Dillian Whyte attended a press conference to help promote his recent signing with the Matchroom stable, Chisora burst onto the scene and almost got into a physical fracas with “The Villain,” (or “The Bodysnatcher,” depending on Whyte’s current chosen nickname).

Dereck Chisora will likely earn himself a world title shot if he can defeat Kubrat Pulev in tomorrow’s European heavyweight title clash – possibly against IBF champ Anthony Joshua (Eddie Hearn says a victorious Chisora would be an option for Joshua). But can “Del Boy” become only the second man to defeat the tough, durable and experienced Pulev? One man who has his doubts is heavyweight ruler Tyson Fury.

Fury told Sky Sports he will be supporting Chisora, and that he may even go out to Hamburg to walk Chisora into the ring. Former bitter rivals – fighting twice, Fury wining both, the second fight by corner retirement stoppage – Fury now says he has “a little soft spot” for Chisora.
