By Rob Smith: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia suffered a rib injury while sparring with journeyman DeMarcus Corley a little over a week ago, and the injury isn’t healing quick enough for the 24-year-old Garcia to defend his titles against Zab Judah in their previously scheduled fight on Showtime on February 9th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York.

Judah to Garcia: You faker!
By Jeff Sorby: Former two division world champion Zab Judah was ready to give WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia the benefit of the doubt that he had suffered a rib injury and that he wouldn’t be able to face him on February 9th in their previously scheduled out at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
However, after hearing an interview at theKoncretejungle.com by Garcia’s chief sparring partner DeMarcus Corley, who said that Garcia injured right thumb, not his ribs, Judah is now wondering why Garcia mentioned a rib injury as his excuse for not being able to fight him.
Corley said Garcia hurt his right thumb when Corley blocked a right hand from Garcia during a sparring session. Garcia then had to ice his thumb and it continued to give him problems all week. Corley said Garcia went to the doctor to get his thumb treated, and when it became clear that the thumb wasn’t going to heal in time for the February 9th fight with Judah, Garcia then postponed the fight.

Danny Garcia is a hot ticket fighter right now. Fresh off of an upset victory over Amir “King” Khan, Danny’s last outing saw him ice Erik Morales in a rematch last October. His confidence is at an all-time high. He has wins over Khan, Morales (twice), Kendall Holt, Nate Campbell, and Mike Arnaoutis.
Danny has fought guys who were considered a little past it (Kendall Holt) and far past it (Morales twice). No matter how you see it, the WBA/WBC light welterweight champion is 25-0 heading into the showdown with Judah.

Five “Dark Horse” match-ups for 2013
By Joseph Herron: Although several intriguing and potentially crowd pleasing match-ups have already been slated throughout the New Year, there remain many superb pairings that have gone unnoticed by major promoters in boxing.
Because of various promotional, monetary, or network conflicts, many fan friendly unions have very little chance of materializing in 2013. Here are just a few terrific fights that should be made in the upcoming boxing year but probably won’t.
Nonito Donaire versus Abner Mares at Super Bantamweight
Although the fight fans of the world overwhelmingly prefer this superb pairing over any other in the packed 122 pound weight division, there is little to no chance this fight will become a reality in 2013. Abner Mares, the undefeated WBC Super Bantamweight Champion, currently fights under the Golden Boy Promotional banner, while Nonito Donaire, the Ring recognized 122 pound champ, exclusively competes on Top Rank, Inc promotional fight cards.
Khan: I was beating Danny Garcia easier than I was Carlos Molina
By Michael Collins: Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) still is under the impression that he lost to WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia last July by getting hurt by a lucky punch thrown by the 24-year-old Garcia. Khan thinks he would have continued to dominate him like he’d done in the first two rounds had he not got hit by that big left hook shot that connected to his neck in the 3rd round.
Khan is now saying that he was having more problems with his last opponent 5’6” lightweight Carlos Molina than he was with Garcia.
Khan said to sportinglife.com “I was beating (Garcia) convincingly and then got caught with a shot. I think I was beating him more easily for the first two or three rounds than I was Molina…I got caught with a shot that I shouldn’t have been caught by.”
Khan was dominating Garcia pretty easily in the 1st round, but in the 2nd round, Khan began to get hit with some hard left hooks from Garcia, and you could tell that Khan was going to have problems in this fight unless he got to Garcia to take him out. Garcia was hitting Khan a lot more regularly than Khan’s other opponents Marcos Maidana and Lamont Peterson early.
Khan beats Molina, calls out Danny Garcia after fight
By Steve Mabbot,Photos: Tom Casino/SHOWTIME – Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) picked up the WBC Silver light welterweight strap tonight with a nice 10th round stoppage win over Carlos Molina (17-1, 7 KO’s) on Showtime television. After the fight an excited Khan said “I’m ready to fight Danny Garcia anytime, anyplace.”
It was Garcia that knocked Khan out last July in the 4th round. Khan hasn’t enjoyed the sting of the loss, as he said tonight “He [Garcia] got lucky. He caught me with a good shot.”
Khan doesn’t look ready to be fighting Garcia right now, because Molina was able to hit him frequently in the early rounds with left hooks and right hands. If Molina was three inches taller and had the power of Garcia, I have no doubts that Khan would have been knocked out again because Khan was leaving himself open a lot when throwing his flurries.
Khan did box more in the fight, but he was still throwing a lot of flurries in each round that would give someone like Garcia plenty of opportunities to knock him out again if Khan were to fight like that in a rematch with him.
Schaefer looking for an opponent for Malignaggi’s next fight
Malignaggi, 32, wants a big name for his next title defense and this may be his last chance to get a big name before gets beaten. Malignaggi almost lost his title in his last fight against fringe contender Pablo Cesar Cano, who Malignaggi barely beat by a 12 round decision last October in a 12 round split decision win. That fight showed that Malignaggi is vulnerable even against fringe level opposition, and that puts more pressure on Schaefer to try and get the biggest name he can because Malignaggi is so vulnerable.
Khan: He’s already beaten Malignaggi and Khan has his own problems right now having lost twice in a row.
Berto: This is winnable fight for Malignaggi but not an easy one because of Berto’s superior power. This wouldn’t be big fight for Malignaggi.
Adrien Broner fans want to see him fight Rios or Garcia next, not Burns
By Ed Patrick: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) may wind up fighting a unification bout against WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) next, but that’s not the guy that boxing fans want to see Broner fight. Burns is down in the pecking order in terms of who boxing fans want to see Broner fight, although they do have some interest in seeing that fight. In a poll conducted by RingTV, fans want Broner to fight Brandon Rios or Danny Garcia next followed by Burns.

No doubt the boxing fans who want to see Broner fight Burns are largely from the UK, because the casual fans in the U.S have little idea of who Burns is. That’s not likely going to keep Broner’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions from making a Broner vs. Burns fight if possible, but it should. If boxing fans as a whole don’t have a clue who Burns is then Golden Boy shouldn’t waste one of Broner’s valuable fights by putting him in with a little known fighter.
