Floyd Mayweather and Danny Garcia featured on Golden Boy Classics Fox Deportes broadcast on August 15

floyd2LOS ANGELES, August 14 – It’s a double shot of “Golden Boy Classics” on Thursday, August 15, as the countdown to “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” continues on FOX Deportes with two memorable battles from the careers of Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Danny “Swift” Garcia.

In the opener at 9:00 p.m. ET, Garcia proves that he’s ready for the best in the business when he takes on former world champion Kendall Holt in a 2011 matchup. Then it’s the main event at 10:00 p.m., as two of the best of this era, Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto, square off in a quest for 154-pound supremacy.

Superior against anyone and everyone put in front of him for years, Floyd Mayweather’s boxing dominance was internationally recognized. But on May 5, 2012, “Money” gave the fans an even more impressive show as he stood and traded with hard-hitting Puerto Rican icon Miguel Cotto, pounding out a 12 round unanimous decision that proved Mayweather’s ability to do it all in the ring once again.

Left- Hook Lounge: Deontay Wilder, Garcia/Matthysse, & Mayweather/Canelo!!!

wilder44Art N. (Los Angeles, CA): On your Facebook page you spoke about Deontay Wilder and how KO artist should perhaps not get so much early praise. Do you think he has a shot to be the next best American Heavyweight?

Vivek W. (ESB): Deontay Wilder has become a hot topic! How hot? On Yahoo! this weekend he was ranked #7 on the global trending report. As interesting as that may be, my point in the FaceBook post was that I approach him like I do any other heavy handed puncher in the sport. I enjoy the KO’s and the process of seeing the fighter rack them up! But when the rubber hits the road, it all comes down to whether or not that puncher has the ability to deal with an opponent who has the power to hurt them, the stamina to outwork them, and chin to outlast them. That’s when it all gets “real” inside the ring! Many of you who followed the fight game before Tyson went wild and Pacquiao brought “good guy” back in style know full well that power without those other elements mean very little.

Broner to Danny Garcia: F**k that dude [Matthysse] up; I’ll get the other Argentine [Maidana]

broner544For the first time WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) revealed that he could be facing the hard hitting Argentinian challenger Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) next rather than vacating his title and ducking the fight like a lot of boxing fans think Broner will do.

Broner sent a twitter of encouragement today to WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, telling him to beat his scheduled September 14th opponent Argentinian Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s), and that Broner would then take care of the other Argentinian, meaning Maidana.

Garcia-Matthysse being talked about for Mayweather vs. Canelo card

matthysse53A big fight between Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) and WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) is being talked about as a possible co main event for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Saul “Canelo” Alvarez pay per view card on Showtime on September 14th. Steve Kim is reporting that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is working on putting the Garcia vs. Matthysse fight together for the Mayweather-Canelo card.

Having Garcia and Matthysse on the Mayweather-Canelo fight card would definitely go a long ways towards drawing additional interest in the PPV card; not that it really needed a lot of help. The Mayweather-Canelo fight is so good in itself that really don’t need a whole lot on the undercard to make the card worth the $65 asking price [$75 HD] for fight.

Will Danny Garcia duck the Matthysse fight in September?

garcia5645WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) appears to have finally cornered WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) after chasing him with no luck for the past year. Garcia, 25, is now in a situation where he has to fight Matthysse this September or else risks having the World Boxing Council strip his WBC strap from him for failing to face his mandatory challenger.

One would hope that Garcia will agree to voluntarily face Matthysse, but after noticing how shook up Garcia appeared moments after Matthysse demolished Lamont Peterson in three rounds on May 18th of this month, you can’t be certain Garcia will agree to take the fight with him. Garcia has two titles, so he can safely give up the WBC title if he likes and hold onto the WBA strap and avoid what could be a potentially embarrassing fight for him.

Garcia defeats Judah; Quillin defeats Guerrero in mismatch

YouTube video
35-year-old Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) gave it a good shot tonight but in the end he was beaten by WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) in a 12 round unanimous decision loss at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Judah was in command of the fight in the last three rounds of the fight, but unfortunately for him he ran out of time and ended losing. The scores were 115-112, 114-112, 116-111.

Garcia fought well in the first 8 rounds in using his right hand to do most of the damage. Judah did a good job of neutralizing Garcia’s left hook and jab. Garcia’s right hand proved to be enough for him to control the rounds and build up a big lead. However, the crowd seemed to motivate Judah to another level starting in the 9th round when he was able to land some really big shots that stopped Garcia in his tracks.

Judah continued to land the far bigger punches in rounds 10, 11 and 12 to dominate the rounds. Garcia kept firing back, but his punches weren’t nearly as significant as Judah’s.

Lucas Matthysse vs. Danny Garcia: Gogue’s big fight preview

15(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Joseph Herron: After the Argentine sharpshooter’s dominant and impressive performance over the outgunned Mike Dallas Jr. this past Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, most fight fans and boxing scribes are anxious to see an eventual showdown between two of the hardest punchers in the talent enriched 140 pound weight class, Lucas Matthysse versus Danny Garcia.
To wet the pugilistic whistle of the die-hard fight fan, boxing strategist and lifelong trainer James Gogue analyzes this perplexing match-up exclusively for Eastsideboxing.com.

Although many observers of the sport have a hard believing that Garcia’s promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, would be willing to pit their potential superstar against a dangerous fighter like the Argentine veteran, the 30 year fight trainer insists that a super fight between Garcia and Matthysse at Junior Welterweight is unavoidable.

“Despite the cynicism of most fight skeptics, Golden Boy has plans to begin cultivating this fan friendly bout,” explains the experienced fight trainer. “The GBP brass is confident that both fighters will continue knocking out their respective opposition to create an appropriate and dramatic build-up for this super fight at 140 pounds.”
