Khan signs for Mayweather fight but is also willing to face Pacquiao – which match-up is most appealing?

khan#11As boxing fans may have read by now, Amir Khan, the former WBA/IBF 140-pound champion, has put pen to paper to face superstar Floyd Mayweather Junior next May and is awaiting Floyd’s signature on the contract. This match-up, though derided by many, has long been expected (at least for a number of months now) and not too many people would be shocked if the match-up went ahead.

But Khan, in speaking with The Mail, also said he would be more than willing to face former friend and spar-mate Manny Pacquiao if Mayweather instead opts to face the fighter seen as his other option for May in Marcos Maidana.

Khan says he’s willing to fight Pacquiao if Mayweather won’t ink contract

khan4045In an interesting confession, Amir Khan (28-3, 18 KO’s) says he’s already inked his part of the contract for a big fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s), but he’s still waiting and hoping that Mayweather will sign. Khan isn’t saying when the contract was sent to him and how long he’s been waiting on Mayweather.

What Khan is saying is that he’s willing to fight Manny Pacquiao next if Mayweather doesn’t sign the contract. Khan says he would try and bring Pacquiao to Dubai to make the fight happen. Whether that’s feasible given the Golden Boy – Top Rank freeze is the question. Khan’s says he wants Pacquiao, but unless the two promotional companies can work with each other then he’s wasting his breath.

Golovkin thinks Khan will give Mayweather problems

khan#3WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin believes that Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s), who has lost 2 out of his last 4 fights, will give Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) a lot of problems with his talent, and he feels this is a good fight for business. Golovkin thinks Mayweather will struggle with Khan for some reason, and he’s very interested in seeing this fight. And what’s interesting is that Golovkin thinks the boxing public will want to see Mayweather fight Khan.

“It’s a good fight for everybody,” Golovkin said to Hustleboss “Amir Khan is a good boxer, he has good speed; not an easy fight for Floyd. It’s good [for] business. Yes [it’s a marketable fight]. You know Floyd is No.1 in the world, but Amir Khan has a lot of fans. It’s a good fight for box, for sport, for business.”

Hunter selling Khan as good option for Mayweather due to his recuperative powers

khan43Amir Khan’s trainer Virgil Hunter doesn’t see anything wrong with Khan’s ability to take hard shots at all. In fact, he credits him with the ability to get up from shots that would put other fights down and unable to get up from the knockdown. For this reason, Hunter thinks that Khan is a very good option for Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next fight on May 3rd. Hunter thinks Khan will get up from pretty much any knockdown because of his recuperative powers.

It’s unclear if that’s a good thing if Khan is too staggered to put up a fight. We saw Khan get knocked down several times against Danny Garcia last year, and he was ineffective after the first knockdown. He was just getting up and getting knocked back down again by Garcia.

Mayweather shows Khan, Maidana and Pacquiao in tweets

In what could be a sign that that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still undecided about who he plans on fighting on May 3rd, he posted 3 tweets today showing himself fighting Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao and Marcos Maidana, and writing captions that showed how little he thought of them as potential opponents for him. As you can see from Mayweather’s caption, he feels that Maidana would be little more than a side order for him to beat. As for Khan, Mayweather sees himself knocking him out.

Richardson thinks Khan doesn’t have to beat Mayweather to come out ahead

khan5Trainer Naazim Richardson isn’t giving Amir Khan much of any chance of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he’s the one that ends up fighting Mayweather in his next fight on May 3rd in Las Vegas. To Richardson, he feels that Khan will come out ahead just by giving Mayweather problems in the fight.

“His [Khan] reputation is so bad,” Richardson said to Hustleboss. “He doesn’t have to win. He just has to do well so people will say he’s back on track. I don’t think he can beat Floyd. He has to reassert himself as a player in the game.”

Chris Mannix: “I’m Told Mayweather-Khan Is a Done Deal”

floyd56554As much as some people disapprove, even despise the idea of Floyd Mayweather Jr. facing Amir Khan next, the concept of this fight keeps gaining ground, and like in a snowball effect, is becoming more talked about and assumed a fact as time goes on.

According to Chris Mannix’s recent Tweet, this fight is going to happen, and an announcement is on its way.

“Still, I’m told Mayweather-Khan is a done deal. A U.S. fight. Announcement could come as early as next week,” read the Twitter post.

Mayweather-Khan is on for May 3rd in Las Vegas, according to The Daily Express!

mayweather644According to an article from UK newspaper The Daily Express – an article that has been read by many people online – the Floyd Mayweather-Amir Khan fight that has been talked about as a possibility for some time will indeed go ahead next May.

The publication reports how the fight has been “finalised” for May 3rd at Mayweather’s second home of The MGM Grand in Vegas. No source is cited in the article but in truth it will not shock too many fans if the paper is correct and hasn’t jumped the gun. Many fans will, however, be angry if Khan gets this massive opportunity.
