Heavyweight triple-header a possibility for Cardiff: Joshua-Pulev, Parker-Price, Chisora-Whyte!

If Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn pulls this off he will be a guaranteed Promoter of The Year award winner in Britain this year. The big plans that are currently underway are for THREE big heavyweight fights to take place on the same night in Cardiff, Wales in either November or December of this year.

According to a news piece in The Mail, Hearn is working, along with others, on staging Anthony Joshua’s second title defence, Joseph Parker against David Price and Dereck Chisora against Dillian Whyte, all at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. The word now is Bulgaria’s Kubrat Pulev, the current European heavyweight champion, is the frontrunner to land the shot at IBF boss Joshua. This fight, a solid match-up that could well provide A.J with his stiffest pro test thus far in his career, would be supported in fine style if the other two in-the-works match-ups get made.

Hagler-Hearns – when they tried to set up a rematch

Hagler-Hearns - when they tried to set up a rematch

Once again, Marvellous Marvin Hagler and Thomas “Hitman” Hearns would box under the bright lights of Las Vegas, this time together, on the same night, against dangerous opposition. It was almost a full year after these two warriors had gone to hell and back against one other, and the grand plan for promoter Bob Arum was to set up a Hagler-Hearns II. Fans got two thrilling fights for their money this night in 1986 – one ending via violently quick KO, the other being an absolute war of attrition – as a rematch of the greatest fight in history was in the works.

Canelo on Golovkin-Brook: Brook is being sacrificed, no doubt about it

Canelo on Golovkin-Brook: Brook is being sacrificed, no doubt about it

Though he claims he is not too interested in the fast approaching fight between Gennady Golovkin and Kell Brook, Saul Canelo Alvarez has given the media his pre-fight prediction: Brook, who he says is “being sacrificed,” will definitely get knocked out. Canelo has launched a scathing attack on middleweight king Golovkin, stating how “he has to worry about his legacy, I don’t have to worry about mine.”

Well, in the opinion of most – around the same number of people who agree with Canelo on his Brook will get KO’d pick – Alvarez does indeed have to worry about his legacy; if he wants to go down as a great Mexican legend, anyway. Canelo must face GGG (something he claims he will do, next year) and he must defeat him if he’s to go down alongside the absolute cream of Mexican warriors. Yet the way he is talking, Canelo feels he has already achieved enough; more than GGG has achieved anyway.

Floyd Mayweather says no on a ring return: That’s old!

Floyd Mayweather says no on a ring return: That's old!

Superstar Floyd Mayweather insists he is done with boxing as far as doing anything other than help out the young fighters he has in his stable; that his own fighting days came to an end as the bell rang ending his decision win over Andre Berto last september.

Mayweather returned to the gym last week and instantly talk began of his seemingly inevitable 50th bout. But, in speaking with fighthype this weekend, the 39-year old future hall of famer closed down any such talk in a firm manner.

Dereck Chisora-Dillian Whyte grudge-match seems destined to happen

Dereck Chisora-Dillian Whyte grudge-match seems destined to happen

A Dereck Chisora-Dillian Whyte clash has been bubbling under for quite a while now, and the grudge-match, crossroads fight could happen this year. These two do not like each other and when Sam Sexton reportedly pulled out of a planned British heavyweight title fight with Whyte, Chisora immediately called Whyte out again.

Whyte, beaten only by IBF heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua, is the heavyweight on the rise in this particular match-up, while Chisora, who is coming off a loss to Kubrat Pulev, is seen by many as being on the way down. Still, Chisora has great experience and he seems convinced he has the beating of the man four years his junior.

Shakur Stevenson wants pro debut to take place in January, already eyeing the big names at featherweight

After missing out on a gold medal at Rio 2016, ultra-talented and gifted Shakur Stevenson is now looking ahead to picking up gold at pro level – where big, big things are expected of him. The 19-year-old spoke with RingTV.com over the weekend and he said he will turn pro as a featherweight, “there are top dogs at that weight,” he said. Stevenson has naturally had plenty of interest from the various promoters, yet he says he has not yet made up his mind about who he may or may not sign with.

Roberto Duran: The Greatest Living Fighter!

Roberto Duran: The Greatest Living Fighter!

While the movie celebrating and paying (reasonably accurate) tribute to is currently enjoying only what one could call mixed reviews at best, the great, the legendary Roberto Duran is many fans’ pick when it comes to listing the greatest living boxer/fighter.

Who am I to disagree with The bible (of boxing) Ring Magazine, but I’m not alone when I feel the publication, so much a staple of fight fans’ lives for so many years, got it wrong when they recently listed Sugar Ray Leonard as the greatest surviving fighter. It’s a close one, granted, but in the opinion of many Duran and all his accomplishments tops Leonard as the very best.

Trey Lippe Morrison following in his father’s footsteps; faces biggest test so far in 13-0 Ed Latimore, Sept. 23

Trey Lippe Morrison following in his father’s footsteps; faces biggest test so far in 13-0 Ed Latimore, Sept. 23

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Trey Lippe Morrison is ensuring the Morrison family legacy continues in boxing. Son of the thrilling Tommy Morrison – who left us too soon at age 44 in 2013 – the 26-year-old has compiled an 11-0(11) pro record and he is being trained by the great Freddie Roach no less. Looking quite a bit like his late father – facially, physique-wise and with his fighting style – Lippe Morrison has not yet achieved the big platform the former WBO heavyweight champ enjoyed.

Eubank Junior insists rematch with “boring” Billy Joe Saunders has to be a 50-50 purse split

Eubank Junior insists rematch with “boring” Billy Joe Saunders has to be a 50-50 purse split

Chris Eubank Junior insists that the “bad blood” between he and the only man to have beaten him as a pro, Billy Joe Saunders, ensures the two will fight again. But the reigning British champion says there is no way he will ever accept the 80-20 purse split WBO middleweight champ Saunders offered to his father in a recent spat on social media. Though Eubank Jr lost the 12-round decision in November of 2014 he maintains he did not “really” lose the fight and that the rematch will happen because he is a draw while Saunders is a “boring fighter.”

Eubank Jr says he is “not greedy” and will happily take the return if a 50-50 agreement can be reached.

Floyd Mayweather Junior back training hard in the gym; 50th fight coming soon?

Floyd Mayweather Junior back training hard in the gym; 50th fight coming soon?

“Retired” superstar Floyd Mayweather junior was back at work in his Mayweather boxing gym yesterday, jumping rope and putting in some “hard work and dedication.” Mayweather posted a video of his training via Instagram, with the written question – “How far are you wiling to push yourself to get to the top and stay on top?” on his Twitter page. Of course, this return to gym, Floyd’s office, has led to speculation that “Money” will soon announce his 50th pro fight.

Mayweather is of course 49-0 and ever since his “retirement” following his wide decision win over Andre Berto last September, many people have expected Mayweather to announce that yes, he is indeed going to fight again at least once more. Can Mayweather possibly resist fighting again and in so doing trying to reach a record of 50-0? If he’s not coming back, or planning to, then why the return to the gym – one he has made public knowledge?
