Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Trey Lippe Morrison is ensuring the Morrison family legacy continues in boxing. Son of the thrilling Tommy Morrison – who left us too soon at age 44 in 2013 – the 26-year-old has compiled an 11-0(11) pro record and he is being trained by the great Freddie Roach no less. Looking quite a bit like his late father – facially, physique-wise and with his fighting style – Lippe Morrison has not yet achieved the big platform the former WBO heavyweight champ enjoyed.

Eubank Junior insists rematch with “boring” Billy Joe Saunders has to be a 50-50 purse split
Chris Eubank Junior insists that the “bad blood” between he and the only man to have beaten him as a pro, Billy Joe Saunders, ensures the two will fight again. But the reigning British champion says there is no way he will ever accept the 80-20 purse split WBO middleweight champ Saunders offered to his father in a recent spat on social media. Though Eubank Jr lost the 12-round decision in November of 2014 he maintains he did not “really” lose the fight and that the rematch will happen because he is a draw while Saunders is a “boring fighter.”
Eubank Jr says he is “not greedy” and will happily take the return if a 50-50 agreement can be reached.
Floyd Mayweather Junior back training hard in the gym; 50th fight coming soon?
“Retired” superstar Floyd Mayweather junior was back at work in his Mayweather boxing gym yesterday, jumping rope and putting in some “hard work and dedication.” Mayweather posted a video of his training via Instagram, with the written question – “How far are you wiling to push yourself to get to the top and stay on top?” on his Twitter page. Of course, this return to gym, Floyd’s office, has led to speculation that “Money” will soon announce his 50th pro fight.
Mayweather is of course 49-0 and ever since his “retirement” following his wide decision win over Andre Berto last September, many people have expected Mayweather to announce that yes, he is indeed going to fight again at least once more. Can Mayweather possibly resist fighting again and in so doing trying to reach a record of 50-0? If he’s not coming back, or planning to, then why the return to the gym – one he has made public knowledge?
Kell Brook sparring partner Liam Williams says Brook “is on another level than GGG, ability-wise”
Unbeaten Welsh 154-pounder Liam Williams may not be a fighter the majority of fans are overly familiar with (at least not overseas), but the reigning British and Commonwealth champion is currently the man of the moment, getting Kell Brook ready for his big fight with Gennady Golovkin. Brook’s team brought Williams, 15-0-1(10) in as he has a style and similar physical dimensions to GGG.
James Kirkland: once full of fire, now burnt out?
“He fights an opponent like they stole something from him,”
No, the above quote was not given whilst the speaker – the late, great Jimmy Jacobs – was talking about James Kirkland, but the description of Mike Tyson’s savagely fierce fighting approach could well have been used when looking at the one-time light-middleweight contender. Kirkland may not have had the skills and the nuances of Tyson but he sure had the raw, naked and frightening aggression.
De La Hoya assures us Canelo-GGG super-fight will not be like Mayweather-Pacquiao; says it won’t take, six, seven years to get done
Fans seem to have been waiting for stars Gennady Golovkin and Saul Canelo Alvarez to fight for the longest time, but in fact the wait hasn’t been over a year yet – it just seems that way. Fans, older fans especially, cannot understand why the two natural rivals do not just get on with it and fight. Despite giving up his WBC middleweight title rather than face GGG next (after he won it from Miguel Cotto) Canelo assures us he “fears no man” and will fight the unbeaten KO artist from Kazakhstan in time.
Can we get ready for a Keith Thurman-Shawn Porter rematch next year?
Make no mistake, Keith Thurman’s thrilling win over Shawn Porter in a great action fight is more than worthy of a rematch. This welterweight rivalry seems destined to be one fans will be able to revisit – the question is when? We do not want this rematch to take eight long years to come to fruition; as was the case with the return meeting of the epic Sugar Ray Leonard-Thomas Hearns clash (a legendary fight that stands alone, but Thurman-Porter is worthy of being listed alongside it).
Eddie Hearn says David Price won’t get Joshua shot in November; likes the idea of Price-Joseph Parker in a final eliminator
It’s still not clear who IBF heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua will be defending his belt against on November 26, but it will definitely not be David Price. Promoter Eddie Hearn had some air time on Sky Sports today, and he repeated the three “most likely” names for Joshua’s next bout: Kubrat Pulev, Bermane Stiverne and Joseph Parker, who is of course Joshua’s mandatory challenger.
Kell Brook on Errol Spence Jr: “If people want to see that fight, I will do it”
Despite the fact that he has packed on the pounds, and the muscle, to fight effectively as a middleweight, IBF welterweight champ Kell Brook says he is very much interested in dropping back down in weight to defend his crown after his massive September 10 fight with 160-pound king Gennady Golovkin is done.
A good number of experts have opined how they feel Brook’s audacious move up to get it on with GGG equals him saying adios to the welterweight division, but Brook isn’t thinking that way.
Amir Khan: Is he still relevant? Will you pay to see his future fights?
Amir Khan in 2017 – Retired? Forgotten? Still relevant? Still exciting?
Khan, the former 140-pound king who was last seen paying the price for taking a quite audacious, but also brave, challenge up at 155-pounds, insists he if far from finished. The 29-year-old who stated a few years back how he planned to retire from boxing by the age of 30 (a milestone the Olympic silver medallist will reach this coming December) has taken to social media to outline his plans for 2017 – and retirement is the least of it.
