Canelo – Mexican Warrior or Diva?

Canelo - Mexican Warrior or Diva?

Over the last few months, it appears that the new aged golden boy has started to lose some respect from his fans especially his fans in Mexico. He went from a true Mexican warrior to opportunistic businessman, which doesn’t sit well with the hardcore fans.

This backlash could have been avoided if Canelo Alvarez didn’t make the decision last May to call out GGG to come in the ring after his obliteration of Amir Khan and stated, “ Like we say in Mexico, we don’t (expletive) around. We don’t fight for belts and stuff like that. I don’t fear anyone. We don’t come to play in this sport. I don’t fear anyone. Right now I will put the gloves on again and fight him!” Then he turns around a month later and decides that he is not a true middleweight and challenges Liam Smith for the WBO light-middleweight title.

Kudos to Keith Thurman

Kudos to Keith Thurman

I must applaud Mr. Keith Thurman for two things. For one, for him and Shawn Porter the fight the fans want to see at the right time. Secondly, for wanting to fight on free TV. To bring boxing back to mainstream we need more of that.

In his post-fight interview he states,” I don’t want pay-per view. I don’t want you to pay for this entertainment. I don’t want you to pay for this entertainment. There’s too much world-class athletic entertainment for free. I want all of America to see…I didn’t have HBO growing up. I didn’t have Showtime growing up. And if you have HBO and you have Showtime, and they make it a pay-per-view, now you’ve got to come out of your pocket some more. I’m not trying to gouge the American people and the American public. I want to get everybody on my side. I want everybody to have an opportunity to witness One Time. And I want boxing to come back to the forefront of network television.”

Open Letter to the AIBA – Olympic Boxing

Open Letter to the AIBA - Olympic Boxing

Dear AIBA Executive Committee: Because of the most recent stance on allowing professional boxers to compete in the Olympics against other young amateur boxers I’m writing this open letter to you all. As one of your USA Boxing officials I must say that I’m totally against this. It is already enough that both class of boxers put their lives on the line each time they step in the ring; however, to place them in the ring with a world class professional boxer is totally increasing the risk.

Floyd Mayweather: Mr. Opportunist

Floyd Mayweather: Mr. Opportunist

Don’t be surprised if Floyd Mayweather comes back in May 2016 to steal the show from the WBC and GGG. It’s my belief that Mayweather, the opportunist will return back to boxing to break the record number of wins #49. Who is the most logical opponent for him to make history against, not only to get win number 50, but to win the WBC middleweight title than from the newly crowned champion Saul Canelo Alvarez.

Dear Boxing Organizations

1-cotto-canelo (17)

I am disappointed in the WBC for waiting until few days before the fight to strip Miguel Cotto of his middleweight championship because he won’t pay $300K with additional $800K for a step aside fee. For me as a fan this is disappointing because, this fight this weekend is championship caliber and it’s supposed to have the middleweight championship title on the line for both combatants to win. But this is what is wrong with boxing.

My personal assessment, keys to victory, and prediction for Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao

My personal assessment, keys to victory, and prediction for Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao

This is fight week and the eyes of the world will be watching as these two first ballot hall of famers will once and for all prove to the world WHO IS the absolute best of their generation. You have Floyd Mayweather who has strategically orchestrated his career into a multi-million dollar empire where he has taken the least-risk most-reward approach, making him the greatest “prize” fighter of all time. Then you have Manny Pacquiao who has been in countless wars and is willing to please the fans even when it’s not advantageous for him.

This fight will transcend the boxing world in which I believe the fans will be surprised on how this fight will play out. I have analyzed both fighters’ careers, greatest strengths and struggle and came up with my keys to victory for both parties, here goes.
