115 – 113 Paulie win. It would have been 117-111 had he not been knocked down. Paulie is actually a great boxer. But I think he’s getting older and he could get hurt in the next few fights. He should retire and be a commentator .

Cano was knocking Paulie around the ring! I mean he even knocked him down.
Paulie needs to watch the fight.
I had Cano winning by then end.

(Hmmm?) i guess Cano didn’t do himself any favors by not making weight but i’m not sure whether that’s a valid scoring criteria for a bout that takes place anyway. IMO, with or without making weight, Cano didn’t deliver the breakaway win that is usually necessary for American judges to favor the foreign fighter. however, Cano did win according to any objective scoring criteria. as if his edge in powerpunching wasn’t enough he was pumping a flush jab into Paulie’s face all-fight-long. add the KD and Cano should’ve received the nod against Malignaggi . . . Peace to IRON MIKE. hope that everything is well up north.

judges took Cano coming in overweight into the scoring i think there getting tired of fighters trying to win fights with an unfair advantage. close fight champ gets the node.

I had Cano winning ,Paulie needs to wake up, he is not really a good boxer, to me he was given a gift, If he fights anyone in the top 5 of 147 he will lose and more the likely by KO, A big Holla to the GREAT TE TUMBO peace my brother–peace

“willl ESB please settle on a single posting protocol? all this fickle experimentation to replace what was already an efficient, accessible, and fight-fan friendly posting board is annoying and counter-productive.”

Ditto that. I’d also like the “reply” feature re-installed. I mean c’mon ESB! You had it right then you messed it all up!

And you Paulie The Runner was the fly that Cano swatted all night. You are an embarrasment to Brooklyn, the great Italian fighters such as Canzoneri and Benvenutti.

Btw, willl ESB please settle on a single posting protocol? all this fickle experimentation to replace what was already an efficient, accessible, and fight-fan friendly posting board is annoying and counter-productive. unless they are trying to discourage posting on their message boards(?).

it was a close fight primarily because i do give Paulie some relative style points. even the more stationary Malignaggi displayed a more fluid style than Cano but what it didn’t do was prevent Cano from consistently tagging Paulie with scoring shots. between a fluid style and scoring punches, i will err in favor of scoring punches every time. this wasn’t quite a “robbery” (there’s been a lot worse) but by now every foreign fighter should know that only a decisive and convincing win or a KO is going to earn him the scorecard nod in the U.S. otherwise, American judges will always err in favor of the American fighter.

Here goes Paulie again — maybe he didn’t win the fight big like — but Paulie has got real guts — no real power — but his courage and lack of fear is one hundred times over.

I just want to see Malignaggi fight a top 147 pounder… OK, not Floyd… not Pacquiao… not Marquez… but somebody RANKED—somebody who didn’t lose to washed up Erik Morales … How about Kell Brook??? Mike Jones??? Devon Alexander??? Even Jesse Vargas or Victor Ortiz would be more appropriate for a World Welterweight Championship Fight than Pablo Cano … I just think we’ll see another Cano type in there with Paulie.

i thought the fight was closer than it looked from the arena, but when i rewatched it at home i thought paulie won by a wider margin. i dont think paulie fought like he usually does and that could be his age or maybe he over trained which is a def possibility that he just left it in the gym, but i thought that he won on his worst day vs a guy having his best day. u didnt look urself paulie but i thought u won it.

I had it 2 points for cano & the whole showtime cast had cano winning as well even his biased buddy trout who had him up by 5 points at some point.Oh well it is what it is.Just don’t go bragging about it was a close fight & you got knocked down.Sounding like bradley, not a good look.

i was there and i thought paulie won the fight the way the 2 judges had it, but when i watched it on tv i saw exactly what paulie was saying about the way he was slipping the punches and i had him up by 3 or 4 rounds

Win or lose (I scored it a draw, by the way) why would/should a champion admit he lost the fight expecially after getting a Decision win? But Paulie’s gonna get tagged and lose by another TKO—just like he did to Khan–in the not too distant future. He does not have his speed anymore, his legs aren’t what they used to be, and he just seems very reluctant to use his right hand. But, “feather-fisted” or no, Paulie has won two championships by staying true to his style. He’s still a masterful boxer, he’s just not as good as he used to be.

I thought Paulie won 114-113 but a swing 7 rounds to 5 either way I wouldn’t complain. there was no domination on either

Posted October 25, 2012 3:39 pm

These posts aren’t hateful… When Paulie says Cano was swatting at flies all night that implies he gave Cano a masterful schooling and made a fool out of him … He’s not that masterful a boxer. He can expect pushback for being so delusional … Watch the fight Paulie, and face up to reality.

honestly I really like paulie, but he lost this fight. he threw 2 rights all night. Cano’s body work was extremely overlooked. For me Cano’s body shots counted for far more than paulie’s featherdusting jab and he landed a lot of them. I understand paulie’s reasons for expressing a confident victory, (he’s looking to bigger money fights and need to keep up his confidence) but when looks himself in the mirror I think he knows he didnt win this one.

I think Paulie has been on the wrong end of some robberies in the past. If he lost this fight or won this fight its hard to say. But personally I think boxing is a better sport with Paulie in it. Is he an all time great? No. Is he a very good professional that has maximized his god given talents to win multiple world championships? Yes, he is. He has done more with less and I respect the hell out of an individual who can do that. I look forward to more of this fights. I’ll route for him. Also, I hope he has a long career as a commentator after his time in the ring is over. I just don’t get all the haters.

Deepwater, i just wanted to apologize about speaking to you negatively on the other comment board. I was upset about something else entirely…that’s no excuse. For that I sincerely apologize.

Hahaha! Is that what you call it when he drops you? Okay

Paulie won by the skin of his teeth over a poor boxer and fair puncher. Paulie’s not an elite boxer like he thinks he is. He’s not super fast. He’s feather fisted. He’s not super skillful. He’s not a great defender. He gets nailed by shots a great boxer doesn’t take. Ricky Hatton outboxed him. Hatton said, “This is the first fight I boxed as a strategy, and I outboxed Paulie every round from the 2nd on. I almost scored a shutout over a good boxer.” … Maybe not such a good boxer.

Posted October 25, 2012 10:46 am

If by flies, he means his head, then Cano did that. I can accept he won that fight because it could have gone either way, but even if Hatton is half the fight he was the first time he fought Paulie, Paulie is losing his title.

Huge paulie fan since he got robbed in the golden gloves against darling Jimenez . Paulie is a good guy and great boxer. I was at arena and paulie didn’t win. Draw at best. Paulie would double jab then fix his cup while cano landed. Effective aggression won it for cano. Inspector from ringside told me paulie jab had no pop. Cano made huge thuds when landing. Paulie got booed out of the ring at his homecoming which indicates he lost. He will be back so it’s all good but he didn’t win this fight.
