Can Canelo take a punch from a strong rugged Angulo?

The fight is not going to be a walk in the park for Canelo. I would not be suprisec if Perro can pull off the upset.

the difference between an elite and a hype-job is that an elite doesn’t turn down $10,000 million challenges from promotional hype-jobs. they eagerly accept with the intention of stealing the hype-job’s thunder, e.g., B-Hops exposing and defeating Cheato TriniDud . . . NEXT?

Hey what’s wrong with the Mexican fight fans coming in the thousands to watch this fight , they want to see Canelo fight a tough cookie it’s o.k by me ..I will watch it also ..the Mexican fans support their fighter’s . Canelo is a Super Star . weather he is great or not, it doesn’t matter ,, he is famous ,,Just look at Jennifer Lopez she is not that good in anything but she is famous .

te tumbo – Picking Martinez over Canelo isn’t as bad as you make it seem…it’s a step UP in a division and even though Martinez is a bit “old”, he’s still a step UP in competition as well, he’s the middleweight champion and Cotto wants nothing more than to win that belt. Cotto has showed interest in fighting Canelo in the future, so don’t count him out.

Yo MOMMA – I never said it won’t be entertaining, that goes without saying. What I mean is I don’t buy this as a “comeback fight” for Canelo, this is merely a confidence booster, a fight against a tough but very beatable fighter….a fighter who was recently stopped due to an eye injury, those are facts. Canelo’s fans want to believe that Angulo is this monster who Canelo must defeat to prove his greatness, which we all know is not true. Just like beating Trout wasn’t going to prepare Canelo for Floyd.

“Canelo severely miscalculated thinking he could outbox Floyd.” – Tumbo, there’s no way he thought he’d outbox Floyd. I do think he was afraid of gassing out if he fought in his usual pressure style against a sublime defensive boxer. Basically Canelo decided not to get hurt and collect a career payday. His only chance at winning was to bring heat and he didn’t — not even in one round out of 12.

Angulo’s the opponent because Canelo needs a win and a semi-entertaining fight. Angulo is a straight forward puncher so he’ll walk right into Canelo’s straight punches. I’ve always liked Angulo but unfortunately he’s limited. That GBP made this s a PPV is absurd.

those who are opposed or ambivalent of the Canelo v. Angulo matchup have Cotto and Kirkland to blame. they won’t accept Canelo’s challengeS(?!). in Cotto’s case, including a guaranteed $10 million payday, At-Least. he’s not gonna make that much v. Martinez and I have no real idea why Kirkland won’t demand a bout v. Canelo. meanwhile, Molina owns a title that Lara doesn’t. why won’t Lara rematch Molina? until he does, i’m not buying into the hype about him. in fact, i’ve never subscribed to the Cuban mystique that took hold during the Cold War. bottomline, Castro’s Cuba has never produced a great pro and the likes of Gamboa and Lara are hardly on the fast-track to greatness.

Cotto had every right to take advantage of Margacheatos eye since Margacheato took advantage of illegal wraps with their first fight.

Posted February 12, 2014 3:54 pm

The Mexican fans will buy this though, it’s an easy fight to sell to the less sophisticated boxing fans…they hear Canelo is fighting a slugger like Angulo and they get excited, I’ve read things like “Canelo will prove how great he is”, “Canelo is a savage, he’s going to destroy Angulo and then rematch Mayweather”, “Angulo is a great fighter but Canelo is greater and he’s going to win”…I mean, noob comments to say the least.

Posted February 12, 2014 3:29 pm

I’m a Cotto fan, but yes, this is just like when Cotto took advantage of MargaCheato’s damaged eye.

Posted February 12, 2014 3:22 pm

I’m not sold on this fight…Lara apparently hit Angulo so hard it broke his face and made him quit, this is nothing but Canelo (& team) taking advantage of the fact that Angulo has been knocked out (stopped) twice and is coming off an injury. I would be a tad more interested had Angulo only lost a decision to Lara, but he was stopped and his face took a beating. Angulo is the right opponent, he stands there and is willing to trade, Canelo most likely hits harder than Lara and they figured if Lara can hurt Angulo than surely Canelo can hurt him even more…not sold.

Posted February 12, 2014 3:21 pm

Angulo is no Tex Cobb – I do think he was breaking down Lara until his own face was broken down by Lara’s pot shots.

Posted February 12, 2014 1:59 pm

Yet you where so excited and enthusiastic about Pac fighting Rios??? This is a good fight. Angulo is anything but a punching bag. At least he showed that against Lara whom he was on the way to KOing until he had that swelling around his eye. If he shows up anything like that I would say Canelo will be in some trouble. On top of that Canelo has only fought 1 real Jr Middle. So with that this will be a test. And Canelo is no pure boxer, he is gonna be there to be hit. His defense isn’t as great as people try to make it out to be.

Posted February 12, 2014 12:47 pm

PEEJ my friend, Angulo offers nothing other than a will to win and a strong chin. He falls short in every other area. He is there to be hit, and hit he will be. Angulo is exactly what you see, a human punching bag that has nothing more than I mentioned. He’s a warrior at heart, but that plodding forward killed or be killed is going to get him beaten up badly. This will be similar to Larry Holmes vs Randall Tex Cobb fight years back. This fight ends in 6-8 rounds by referee’s stoppage.

Posted February 12, 2014 12:38 pm

Hecdog to say Canelo is fighting a useless fight but yet you like every Pac fight like its the next best thing since sliced bread. You need to stop with that. This is a good fight. Maybe no PPV but neither was Rios vs Pac. But this is a good fight.

Public Enema- alot better than Danny Garcia’s fight thats for sure. Fireworks.

Yo Momma my friend, really, this fight will not last 6 rounds, trust me. Angulo has nothing. The promoters are taking advantage of the Mexican fans that love boxing and are passionate about boxing. Angulo has nothing and will be beaten up badly. You will then hear all they hype about Canelo, and once he fights a good Jr. middleweight or middle weight, he will get beat. Canelo is a good fighter, but he can’t hang with the top guys. Manny may eventually move up and destroy either of these guys, especially Canelo. Hope this is a good fight, but it won’t last long. I certainly won’t pay a penny to see it.

Shane Mosley

Why are mofos talking like Canelo has power? He only punches as hard as Mayweather and Mayweather has below average power at welterweight.

Posted February 11, 2014 11:14 pm

Public Enemy- Im sure even IF Canelo did take on those fighters you wont give credit. Your blood is so full of hate for mexicans. Thats a fact. Canelo took on Austin Trout and you said that Trout would be too fast and too quick and would beat him. Then you went back and started saying Trout was featherfisted. You remember that dont you?? course not. You are too busy hating.

Posted February 11, 2014 10:52 pm

Hec Dog-
You are the last person I thought that would comment in here. Dont you have a Pacquioa or Mayweather or Marquez thread to go and preach?? I know your frustrated with your hero Pacquioa been put to sleep by a mexican. Ironic isnt it? But dont hate on these 2 fighters.

Dangerous fight for Canelo…

Posted February 11, 2014 9:56 pm

Hec Dog

Truly useless fight for the Mexican fans to spend their hard earned money on. A worthless fight that is put on by promoters that take advantage of Mexican fans. Promoters GBP/Canelo promotions sit on a tree like a bunch of vultures waiting to pounce on their prey. Smart boxing fans can see this outcome from miles away. Angulo is nothing more than a strong courageous brawler that possess no boxing ability whatsoever. Canelo is stronger, faster, younger, better skills, better feet, and has better competition. This is nothing more than a set up fight to keep Canelo look good, and Angulo’s neanderthal fighting style is perfectly made fro canelo. This will be a young man beating up a human punching bag. What a farce. No one will buy this PPV fight, no one. Promoters and some fighters continue to take advantage of those die hard loyal fans. Shame on them

Canelo severely miscalculated thinking he could outbox Floyd. it’s a smart fight-plan v. Angulo, though. Lara didn’t have the power to earn Angulo’s respect but Canelo figures to do some stunning punchwork v. the always obliging Angulo. of course, Canelo should prepare for Angulo continuing to stalk forward and through his best punches. as long as he’s mentally prepared for that, he should win this one going away resulting in another tough break for Angulo.

Fraud May

Yea. Sorta like when Cotto went after the busted eye of Margarito. Canelo wins this one.

Alfred Angulo

I know that I have to KO Canelo because if he goes 12 rounds with me, I won’t win the fight by decision.

Posted February 11, 2014 5:57 pm

canelo if funny

Canelo is taking advantage of angulos eye y didnt he choose lara its not fixed its just the secure win

Posted February 11, 2014 5:46 pm

Angulo is a real challenge considering this is only the 2nd real Jr Middle Canelo would be fighting. Also Angulo is a strong puncher. I give him a good chance of pulling the upset.

Posted February 11, 2014 5:44 pm

fixed fight. ref stops fight due to angulos eye.
