Do you not read what I posted. I know it’s because Floyd demanded testing. I’ve always stated he was wrong but Pac should of said no not make up lame dumb excuses cause all that did is make seem like he was hiding something. So that falls on them. Plus Arum never wanted the fight in the first time. I know Martinez fought at welter but he said it himself that he put on too much muscle when he fought Pavlik and he can no longer make 154. That’s what him, Dibella and his advisor said. So I’m taking them by there word. And once again I never said Calzaghe wasn’t great. I know he is great

Posted June 22, 2013 9:45 am

Square – anything is posible but I very much doubed that he will get “beaten up” by kovalev and certainly not Adonis ,no one gave Hopkins a beating in his entire carriere he is to slik for that!

Ole Pokins is gonna get F’d up and retired by either Kovalev or Adonis. Real talk.

Also I would love too see Hopkins face ward and see how “past his prime “Hopkins really is

Posted June 22, 2013 4:21 am

Lol ok first off just because calzaghe beat jones and Hopkins past their prime you can’t say he wasn’t great because he beat many great boxers too and btw Hopkins is still nr1 lighthaveyweight past his prime or not …and about Martinez you are completely wrong because he always fought biger boxers than him not smaller ,pavlik ,Chavez were much biger then him and don’t forget he fought at welter most of his carrier but you know that too its just that you look for escuses about mayweather not facing him …and about PAC the whole mayweather vs PAC fiasco was because of mayweather accusation and test demand !!!
If the whole reason for the fight not happening was PAC not taking the test than why the “arum” fault and split demands etc…??? The whole bs started by mayweather test demand and that’s a FACT!!!

Posted June 22, 2013 4:19 am

Please. I like Froch and have never said anything about him, never said anything about GGG, I like him too. I just said he has never fought at 154, lowest he has been is 158. I hate both Kilotchkos but can recognize they are both great and nobody can beat them, Calzaghe was great too but he fought Hopkis and Jones past there prime. Nope I don’t like Martinez cause all he does is call out smaller fighters and ducks the best in his division. I like Pac but people try to twist the facts when in fact they are the ones that came up with lame excuses on why he wouldn’t take random test when he should of just said no. And no me and sredmond are not the same person. I have no clue who he is. And I stay constant with all my info and statements while you try to twist the truth.

Posted June 22, 2013 2:55 am

Also Martinez advisor Lewkowicz stated when Canelo was thought to maybe fighting Martinez that Canelo would have to move to 160 because Martinez can’t make 154. Why is that if he can make 154?

Posted June 22, 2013 12:51 am

Talk about changing the facts you see what really maravilla’s manager said ,it had nothing to do about the weight …and stop writing be here and accusing people for bringing the facts!!!

Posted June 22, 2013 12:08 am

By Dan Ambrose: With Floyd Mayweather Jr. now fighting on Showtime instead of HBO, Sampson Lewcowicz, the manager for WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, says that a fight between Martinez and Mayweather is now out of the realm of possibilities due to the two fighters being on different networks.

Lewcowicz said to “No chance, absolutely none. He (Mayweather) is on Showtime and HBO us.”

It probably doesn’t matter what network Mayweather fights on, he’s not going to move up to middleweight to fight the 38-year-old Martinez and he’s not going to fight Gennady Golovkin either.

I think Mayweather’s fight against Miguel Cotto last May taught him a lesson by giving him a clue that he doesn’t have the size to be fighting junior middleweights or middleweights.
Martinez is a step up from Cotto and Mayweather likely wouldn’t have taken that fight under any circumstances, even if Martinez drained down to 147 to face Mayweather. It’s just a bad match-up for Mayweather now that he’s 36 and can’t move like he used to. If this was a 25-year-old Mayweather then I think he’d beat Martinez at 154 or 160, but he’s not going to beat him at 36, and I imagine he knows this. Martinez is too big and too strong for Mayweather.

Mayweather is going to face nothing but 147 pounders in his 6-fight contract with Showtime/CBS. He’s not going to face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and he certainly isn’t going to face Sergio Martinez. It’s too late in the game for Mayweather to be making that fight, and he doesn’t need to with him making $30 million per fights to face welterweights.

Martinez is the one that needs Mayweather and not the other way around. Martinez just needs to look to face guys like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Austin Trout and Canelo instead of wasting time against fighters like Martin Murray. That’s a wasted fight for Martinez.

Lol peej says maravilla can’t make the weight to 154 and also triple g can’t and and we have to assume it is a FACT…lol
Who cares if they can or can’t make weight to fight mayweather this article is about maravilla fighting cotto …btw maravilla said many times he can make weight for 154 ,talk about twisting the fact!

Posted June 21, 2013 11:58 pm

No Martinez cannot make 154. Like I have said and so has Martinez and so has his promoter. He would have to cut of a limb to make 154. He stated before the Williams rematch because Williams wanted it at 154. Martinez and his promoter said he is unable to make 154. He has put on too much muscle when he moved up to 160. So 154 is out of the question. And like I have stated many times, there is more money at 154 than there is at 160. GGG has never made 154 either, now I am not sure if he can or can’t, the closest he has come is 158 and he looks pretty cut at that weight. But as far as Martinez goes, I will not be convinced till I see him actually make it. Heck he is wanting to fight Cotto at 160. Come on now.

Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)

TARK is right about this issue. Maravilla has never been a big MW and can still make 154lbs to fight FMJ — even though he’s pushing 39 and his metabolism has slowed down over the years.

Triple G can also make 154lbs for any major fight because like Maravilla he is NOT a big MW. Both men have called out FMJ, so let’s see if he’s in the mood to accept those REAL DEAL challenges after taking some hard shots from Canelo. If Canelo pulls out the upset, this conversation about Floyd defending his paper Jr. MW titles is completely over anyway.

And at that point, we can start talking about Canelo vs. GGG or Maravilla. Those are some highly exciting match-ups! Man…. the sheer talent in boxing is all around great right now, but they need to start making the big fights and stacking cards without all the red tape — just like they do in the UFC.

Posted June 21, 2013 9:40 pm

Yeah he said he could make it, Rios said he could make 135 but failed twice. Problem is his promoter has already said he couldn’t make it. Williams wanted the rematch at 154 and they both said there is no way he can make it. And for someone wanting big money fights sure isn’t taking the opportunity because 154 is where the money is at. There is no money at 160 unless you fight Chavez

Posted June 21, 2013 9:31 pm

Sergio can make 154… He’s said many times he was willing to come down to 150 for Pacquiao or Mayweather.

He was fighting welterweight 20 fights into his career, and he got a really late start in Boxing… The added weight to his frame is all muscle weight, added to grab big opportunities like the Pavlik fight… That weight dissipates within a few months of gym inactivity, lots of long distance training runs, but and no weight training and no strength training … It’s a matter of eating a lot of salads, and fruits vegetables, and limiting your protein intake so your body slims slowly.

Mosley has gone through this routine several times between 147 and 154. He looks huge at 154 because he’s so muscled up. He was a lightweight for more than 30 fights.

Posted June 21, 2013 9:18 pm

I don’t watch girl fights or post on articles about girl boxing. I only post a mayweather comment when someone else does. I don’t ever refer to Floyd unless I am using him as an example and when I do that I also include other boxers also. You like to twist words around and try to twist history around to prove your points. Which is basically lying to yourself because you are a Pac fan. I am a fan of Floyd but I am a boxing fan first.

crap. Chavez WAS ready. If you train to bully smaller man in a small ring, and you get whipped the first time you get into a decent ring with a good fighter, so you had it coming. You were ready for a beating.

And if your so tired of these so called fake fights then stop watching

Posted June 21, 2013 3:00 am

No it’s not all about Floyd. But the simple fact is Martinez can’t make 154. That’s what this is about. Floyd is not a middleweight. So why doesn’t he challenge the best in his weight class? Why not fight the other titlest? My point is clear. There is more money at 154 and if he could make 154 he would have already done it. No matter how you try to spin or change what I said wont change the fact that he fought the weakest titlest in Chavez and ran from all the other titlest saying they didn’t bring any money to the table. Well neither does Martinez

Posted June 21, 2013 2:59 am

Mayweather did say he would fight martinez. I seen a video of him saying it. But it was just wods no action. Martinez is literally falling apart. Serious sugery I don’t know. I think he may be on the vegre of suffering a coup de grat soon. The forecast on a potential serg vs cotto bout depends on sergs body. I would favor serg it his body held up. Though it could collapse and he could go. Serg is about done

Posted June 21, 2013 1:45 am

Maravilla fought the best out there but taking cotto now Ida joke !!!!
He should fight ggg if he wants to be counted as nr1 in the middleweight dvision if he is not up to it than He should quit and not fight cotto personally I wouldn’t even care who won the fight ket alone watched it …I don’t need another mayweather “I beat the best ,cotto” thing I am tired of these fake fights !!!

Its obvious you don’t know boxing because that is all you can say, since you also said that on another post. Plus you can’t even come up with a name. So in reality you are just a coward who is a key board warrior. If met with a real challenge you would tuck your tail and coward away. Its ok, the world is full of cowards like you.

Posted June 20, 2013 11:59 pm

REM it doesn’t matter, he can’t make 154 so the fight is pointless. Or is Floyd once again scared for not fighting a middleweight? The man cannot make 154. Before they fought Williams in the rematch Williams wanted it at 154 and Martinez said he cannot make 154. His promoter said he would have to cut off a limb to make the weight. And like I said there is a lot more money at 154 than 160. He wants big money fights so if he could make it he already would have.

Matinez by death.

FA, I think Cotto weighed 165 when he fought Trout, didn’t he? A little less when he fought Mayweather?

Posted June 20, 2013 10:41 pm

Peej Floyd just recently said a Martinez fight was now impossible because he’s tied to hbo funny thing is he never said it was possible before that lol. He just wanted everyone to know that no way he’s taking that guaranteed lose from Martinez.

Posted June 20, 2013 10:17 pm

GGG has called out every fighter within 10 lbs of him and no one has even uttered his name till Ward recently he can’t fight people who won’t fight him.

Posted June 20, 2013 10:12 pm

Floyd never responded because Martinez can’t make 154. So there is no reason to discuss the fight. If he could make 154 he would have already done it because there is more money at 154 than there is at 160

Posted June 20, 2013 8:57 pm

Canelo could beat Floyd… We could see a Canelo-Sergio fight.

Posted June 20, 2013 6:50 pm

Fight Aficionado

Cotto is topped out at 154 and even then he’s small. If Sergio wants to go for guys at 154 he should target the Floyd-Canelo winner. He’s called out Floyd a bunch of times but Floyd never responded. If Canelo wins I can see that happening though.

Posted June 20, 2013 5:37 pm

Hidalgo – You make some good points. It surely would be an interesting fight, now I kinda want it to happen lol

Posted June 20, 2013 5:07 pm

“Maravilla will pose the SAME threats and some.” He will Titopa. But Martinez’s age, battle scars, and deteriorating skills can work against him. Martinez looked terrible in his last fight against Murray. And he couldn’t take out Chavez Jr. Cotto hits hard and is two levels above Murray in skills.

Posted June 20, 2013 3:55 pm

Hidalgo – He certainly can, but will he? who knows. Cotto’s been through a lot of tough fights, we saw how his legs (and reflexes) looked against a quicker/bigger fighter in Trout, Maravilla will pose the SAME threats and some.

Posted June 20, 2013 3:42 pm

At this stage of Maravilla’s career, I’d pick Cotto to beat him.

Posted June 20, 2013 3:29 pm

Now, I’m not encouraging Sergio to move down, but when/if you look at it from a business (personal) point of view, that’s the best option. He’s done a lot at 160 and like I said, he’s just NOT the same fighter anymore.

Posted June 20, 2013 3:22 pm

BEARS – Possibly! But I personally feel that Sergio isn’t the same anymore, a move down is his best bet, the rest of the guys (he hasn’t fought) at 160 are younger and hungrier.

Posted June 20, 2013 3:21 pm

but Sergio *beat the lineal champ

Posted June 20, 2013 3:19 pm

Serg is gonna come down in weight for cotto in an attempt to position himself for mayweather

Posted June 20, 2013 3:19 pm

TARK – GGG has a VERY good shot at beating Martinez, I will NOT deny that….but Sergio worked his beat the lineal champ (Pavlik) and then defending it against guys who were ranked in the top 10, GGG hasn’t beaten a SINGLE top rated 160lber, it’s not his fault, of course, but it’s still a fact. You gotta work your way up to fight #1, GGG’s next fight is a step in the RIGHT direction.

Posted June 20, 2013 3:18 pm

SM’s resume and accomplishments say he’s number one… But GGG would still kick his ass… That’s why the fight hasn’t been made and won’t be made.

Posted June 20, 2013 3:02 pm

Rem – Well, when you compare resumes, one is MUCH better than the other…and we all know who that is, Martinez. So, until GGG beats his next opponent and 2-3 more TOP rated Middleweights, Martinez is STILL #1 at 160.

Posted June 20, 2013 2:37 pm

Was a Martinez fan till he said he didn’t have to fight GGG now I’m a GGG fan. Martinez is no champ he’s a chump and this proves it. GGG the best mw in the world.

Martinez needs to have a rematch with Chavez Jr. big Money fight and Cotto can fight the loser of the May vs Canelo fight which I believe will be Canelo.. not hating on the MEX just don’t believe he can out box Floyd… so it would be a great fight for Canelo to take on Cotto…

Posted June 20, 2013 1:24 pm

True, Cotto should be making his exit sooner than later BUT won’t while he’s $till marketable. His loss to Floyd did him more good than harm & is still far more marketable than his most conqueor Trout. Considering all those ??questions?? in regards to Sergio’s decline (?) a Martinez vs Cotto fight will sell, even if it might possibly/probably lead to Miguel’s farewell. If Cotto can’t get by K9 decisively then it makes no sense.

Posted June 20, 2013 12:49 pm

Mex – I think Martinez’s KO was more “brutal”, the sound of that KO punch landing was dynamic, and Williams fell like a tree that had been cut at the base, he fell HARD and was asleep with his eyes wide open. Marquez’s KO over Pacman was more “shocking” and kind of out of nowhere, I’d say it wasn’t as “pretty” as Martinez’s KO, but both had the “wow” factor.

Posted June 20, 2013 12:47 pm

I am a HUGE Maravilla fan, but I’m not really sure what to think about Cotto as a possible opponent. It’s no secret that Martinez has fallen off a bit, he’s looking more and more vulnerable, his body is giving up on him, he still has the quickness and the athleticism, but his bones (and joints) aren’t able to withstand his fighting style, his style requires the body of a much younger man…I believe he KNOWS this and that’s why he’s considering n easier route to a big payday, as much as I’d like to blame him, I really can’t, he’s done well for himself and he’s accomplished some good things…a part of me just wishes he would fight THE BEST at 160.

Posted June 20, 2013 12:41 pm

Nobody want’s to see Martinez beat up Cotto… Cotto should quit. He’s had a great career and would be stupid to fight somebody like Martinez. However money makes people do strange things.

Everybody wants Martinez to take on GGG or Quillin.. Like that’s going to happen.

Id actually like to see Trout vs Martinez, instead of Cotto. Cotto has high mileage in terms of wars and with these higher weight classes, its only a matter of time before he gets KO by these bigger men. Even Lara vs Martinez would be a better fight. After Mayweather , Canelo can get in the mix too.

I just don’t understand why the Chavez Jr. camp isn’t calling out Sergio considering he’s not looked too good in his last two fights and it would give Chavez Jr. an opportunity to redeem his loss??? makes no sense.

Posted June 20, 2013 9:59 am

TUMBO Q-vo! Good points. Now, Sergio is on the way down, IMO. Is he now being slightly ‘overrated’?? hmmm.. Let’s consider his last 4 fights: How impressive did he look for 11 rds vs thee unheraled Darren Barker?? hmmm.. How about his ‘too close for comfort’ encounter vs Matthew Macklin, who knocked him down in the process?? Remember that one? Yes, he had his way for 11 rds vs Chavez Jr who consequently put Sergio on his butt, barely making it to the ‘finish” line. And in his most recent fight, we all know that he actually went down TWICE (once officially) vs Murray. An extremely close fight, 114-113 by many observers before a hostile and influencing hometown crowd. He’s visited the canvas in his last three fights. His age is showing and now will be inactive until NEXT YEAR! How well will he return? What effect will this inactivity have on his then 39yr old body & already descending skills? Again I ask, is he now being slightly ‘overrated’?? hmmm… Orale pues Carnal, paz & respeto! Peace to all.

Martinez is only known in Argentina and hard core fans. His KO of Williams was so long ago and he squandered any momentum he had from that fight by fighting fighters nobody heard of and continued to do so while calling out Floyd and Pac at 154, a weight which he can’t make. Any other titlest at his weight challenged Martinez and Martinez declined to fight them. Oh wait he was constantly calling out the weakest titlest in his division which was Chavez

Posted June 20, 2013 9:14 am

Pick em fight. Sergio is faling off and easily shoulda lost his last 2 fights. Cotto is trying to rebuild confidence. Cotto has a lil more left in the tank. Sergio is pushing 40, coming off injuries n almost got k.o.ed his last 3 fights. Plus he doesnt want any parts of ggg or kid chocolate who both ko him easily. At 154 i like cotto right now due to sergio being damaged goods possibly

it would be a final big payday for Cotto and a huge KO opportunity for Martinez whose size and reach advantages would put him out of reach but in range to tee-off on the smaller Cotto. Lara would be a better matchup for Martinez and Cotto and i would favor both to defeat Lara by KO.

Posted June 20, 2013 2:57 am

Sergio VS Canelo would do HUGE numbers …..

Posted June 20, 2013 1:51 am

Problem is since he became the middleweight champ he has not fought the best comp in his division. You can say Floyd hasn’t but name me fighters that he is not fighting at 147 not named Pac or under Top Rank? Martinez has been challenged by the other belt holders only to be pushed aside by Martinez with an excuse of they dont bring money or I don’t know who they are. News flash for Martinez, he does not bring money to the table neither nor do people really know him outside of Argentina whom just now took a liking to him or outside of us hard core fans.

Big Maravilla fan, but he’s been ducking the very best MWs for too long now. In fact, he nearly lost to BOTH Murray and Mack. Cotto has been reduced to a glorified gatekeeper and is no longer interested in fighting the best at Jr. MW. Both are looking for a BIG-NAME fight and HUGE payday while taking minimal risks.

– Maravilla should be trying to fight Triple G or Chocolate.

– Cotto should be trying to fight Canelo, Lara or Kirkland.

But it appears that both warriors are a little past it as this point, and are more interesting in padding their retirement accounts while maintaining their good health. I’d still watch this match-up, because I’m a huge fight fan, but certainly wouldn’t pay $60 for PPV. Real talk.

I should be happy a small, faded Cotto gets his ass whupped by Martinez? this a stupid idea. He’s 5’7, tiny for a middleweight and he’s far from his prime. It says to me Martinez is convinced his natural talents are failing him if he would consider this.
