my list 1 Manny Pacquiao 2 Ruslan Provodnikov 3 Danny Garcia 4 Lucas Mytesse 5 Zab Judah 6 Gennady Golovkin 7 Segio Martinez 8 Victor Ortiz 9 Sergio Martinez 10 Brandon Rios . I dont understand why Zab is not in the list , Zab never in a boring fight , win or lose .

philly shell

this article seems tilted towards British fighters. Amir Khan but not Maidana – please! No Alvarado or Rios or Provodnikov? And everyone’s forgetting future HOF Miguel Cotto. Other than the ugly bout with Clottey, name 1 bout with Cotto that was not exciting (maybe Trout)? And that’s not a case of what have you done for me lately… You can go back years looking for a boring Cotto fight and not find one.

Posted June 13, 2013 7:30 pm

HaHaHaHa!! While the cats away the nice will play, when will you guys learn I am ALWAYS gonna come out ahead because I stick to the facts and I don’t need a consensus to feel comfortable with my views… As it pertains to excitement Broner and Matthysee are young guys consistently providing DRAMA and KO’s in the ring, Pacquiao was the king for quite awhile in that regard… Floyd’s so terrific that people pay to see his flawless performances that should be the template for any aspiring boxer to follow… A once in a generation talent that cannot be usurped by politics..!

Posted June 13, 2013 6:35 pm

just sayin

I don’t think that Haye’s performances against Valuev, Klitschko or Harrison were exactly exciting

Posted June 13, 2013 11:11 am

Compared to other heavy weight out there Hay is much more exciting. Chis went 12 rounds with Vitali and had enough energy afterwards to go another round with Hay. Chis was KOed by Haye big difference. Vitali should have taken the rematch but after Haye trashed Chis Vitaly started thinking maybe he did have a foot injury and could not set for the Haye maker punch I better avoid this guy for rematch.

@ Iceferg. Maybe not No. 1, but common ! He has an amazing boxing style, he’s super fast and a hard puncher. Plus he’s funny.

Posted June 13, 2013 6:37 am

ISaB – David Haye is one of the most boring fighters in world class boxing as has been proven in his fights with Valuev, Ruiz, Klitschko, Chisora etc. His fight with Mormeck is massively over rated as well. The one thing I do not get about this list is why Adrian Broner has been included on the list but not Marcos Maidana.

Posted June 13, 2013 6:09 am

Huck ?? Fury ?? But no David Haye ??

Posted June 13, 2013 6:03 am

Q. May is number fighter on planet now. No argument. He is however not an excitement machine. I am never scared to run off to make a cuppa when he is fighting. But when PAC fights I don’t leave the telly till its over.

Posted June 13, 2013 4:48 am

TYSON FURY should not be on tis list. He is barely a fighter to be honest. I can’t think of a heavyweight with less skills than rthis guy. He’s willing, but so far edfinitely not able.

I would advocate transplanting him with a true warrior, USS Steve Cunningham, who has never been in a bad fight – check out his goes with Yoan Pablo Hernandez I and II and with the likes of Adamek and Huck and even his losing effort to Fury (who was smaashing him with illegal blows from the off!

The Kameda brothers from Japan are a good watch and so too is Kid Chocolate, Peter Quillen at Middleweight.

I like watching the sweet science performed. I also like a good scrap. the difference is one type of fighter will have major health issues and the other type will be just fine when they retire. Which one would you rather be?

“i would also replace Golovking with Maidana. i can’t recall a single “exciting” fight from Golovkin(?).” – Nobody’s put the hurt on Golovkin so he can’t be penalized for that. His KOs are exciting to watch though so he’s def top 10. I do agree Maidana needs to be in there, along with Angulo.

“Wow ‘where the heck is rigo and floyd..thats when u know when writers dont appreciate the sweet science..woohh” – This is about the most exciting boxers. Nobody has Floyd as a top 10 most exciting boxer, even his ballsac slurpers admit that. Except the ones who jackoff to his fights, they’ll get quite excited.

To me the most exciting boxers today are Matthysse, Thurman and Kovalev. Maybe put Stevenson in there too.

Yes I am sure he will call all the shots. Same thing Oscar did to him when they fought. Floyd is the big dog so I see nothing wrong with it. Got to beat the man to be the man

Havoc I read an old interview from 2012 and he said every fight before he fought Oscar was with 8oz gloves.

Posted June 12, 2013 2:34 pm

Te tumbo- lol. Good one.

Posted June 12, 2013 2:20 pm

Havoc: “Mayweather uses the 10 oz gloves with the intent of covering his face and relying in points.” hating on Mayweather ALWAYS goes hand and hand with being woefully uninformed. That’s proof of Mayweather’s legend and his place in history. 1. Floyd does not like 10oz gloves, but he does wear a different brand to protect his hands, but more than anything 2. Floyd is NOT nor has he EVER been a cover up defender. He’s always used either his legs or his shoulder/waist/knees and parries. Out point is vague. If you’re hitting and not getting hit, you’re technically outpointing your opponent, that’s just what it is, but Floyd doesn’t just out point guys, he puts on clinics, and takes their will to throw punches. They take jarring counters and they miss all over the place, and they stop throwing, even a one track minded warrior like Guerrero got BROKEN… that’s beautiful.

Posted June 12, 2013 12:06 pm

Fury. you serious?

Posted June 12, 2013 12:04 pm

My list would have FMJ in the top 10. Perhaps #1. NOTHING at all more exciting than a super fighter getting in the ring and the anticipation of a complete outclassing or a sudden decent from his pedestal, and he hits and hits a lot with his accuracy (unlike many non accurate brawlers who miss much more than they land). The PPV numbers point at “other fighters” aka Mayweather, for a reason. Let’s say if he’s not the most “exciting” fighter, then he’s in the most ….climactic bouts (although they become anticlimactic when you realize he’s not going to lose)

Aren’t we all surprised that when Manny’s name is called the morons who hate Floyd always have to drag his name into the discussion. Last time I checked Manny needs a guy who blocks punches with his face to raise his stock again. Another loser facing Pacquiao and the retards don’t see anything wrong with that. Let’s see when Manny faced Marques, and Bradley he didn’t look that exciting to me, ask yourselves why. The most boring fighter in Floyd will get twice the amount you idol Manny will get fighting a robot in Rios. Kid Chocolate should be on this list by the way.

Posted June 12, 2013 2:44 am

List is okay just a few questions, who has GGG beat that is relevant? I think Maidana deserves to be in the list before him or Khan. Nothing exciting in watching Khan, funny yes but not exciting.Alvarado he too deserves to be in this list way before Tyson Fury, GGG & Khan. I would also have Mares, Rigo & Floyd in there.

Posted June 12, 2013 2:30 am

I know his last fight was with 8oz gloves

Posted June 12, 2013 2:25 am

I don’t think some people realise this is the most exciting, and not best fighters…. How could Khan no be on this list?!

He is so much fun to watch. Just look at his last 3 fights and tell me they have not entertained you?!

Also maidana should be on there? I am also a big fan of dereck chisoras style, although I don’t think he should make it on the list.

I know many disagree, but being a purist, I really do enjoy watching floyd fight too.

Mayweather uses the 10 oz gloves with the intent of covering his face and relying in points. There’s no way in hell a 10 oz gloves could KO a boxer at 147. You say Floyd is the master I say Floyd ain’t got the power to KO anybody so he protect and rely in points which and always be a boring fight. Floyd hands are shots!!!!

Exciting? Right down my alley! Manny Pacquiao is without a doubt the most exciting fighter to have ever laced on a pair of gloves. Like him or hate him, you cannot deny the electrifying excitement Pacquiao brings into the ring. He is a warrior that puts it all on the line, yet he’s the most humble likable person there is. Look at his resume, it has excitement written all over it. My most exciting fighters today goes like this: #1 Manny Pacquiao #2 Maidana #3 Mares #4 Broner #5 Povodkin #6 Santa Cruz #7 #8 Danny Garcia #9 Mikey Garcia #10 Brandon Rios.

The most boring fighters today is as follows: #1 Floyd Mayweather #2 Floyd Mayweather #3 Flloyd Mayweather #4 Floyd mayweather #5 Floyd Mayweather #6 Floyd Mayweather #7 Floyd Mayweather #8 Floyd Mayweather #9 Floyd Mayweather #10 Floyd Mayweather. It’s unanimous, Floyd Mayweather.

IMO, Maidana’s resilience is approaching legendary status. he should’ve lost to Ortiz, Soto-Karass, and was flirting with defeat v. Lopez last Saturday only to respond with legendary grit, determination, and dare i say improved boxing(?!?) skills. you Know you’re in for excitement when Maidana’s on the card.

Tark’s list and reasoning is solid. i would replace Donaire with Mares though. Donaire is most exciting when his opponent obliges him with exchanges. otherwise, it’s a monotonous process of Donaire chasing and his opponent backpedaling and clinching for dear life. Mares is balls-to-the-wall from opening to final bell regardless of the opponent. i’m still a bit incredulous at how he expertly handled (manhandled?!?) a very dangerous Ponce. premature stoppage or not, Mares emerged as a solid notch above.

Good article. Of course there are “better boxers” that supersede those in the list but this IS an article on the most ” exciting” fighters. I concur with most, honourable mentions could have included Abner Mares and Sergio Martinez, to name a few, popular boxers.

Posted June 11, 2013 6:32 pm

Huck, Khan, Fury, and Marquez, flat out, don’t make the Top-10… Fury is exciting; a guy who punches himself in the face; but his skills aren’t polished enough to make astounding things happen. Khan isn’t skilled enough either although he makes me LOL.. Marquez dealt a smashing finish to Pac, but a counterpuncher isn’t always that exciting. JMM is my 15th. I rank Alvarado, Rios, Cleverly, and Pulev ahead of him.

I rank 10 Pacquiao, 9 Martinez, 8 Provodnikov, 7 Danny Garcia, 6 Mikey Garcia, 5 Broner, 4 Donaire, 3 Haye, 2 Golovkin, and 1 Matthysse as my TOP 10.

Haye is very fast, skilled, and powerful… Some don’t like him, but he belongs.

Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)

Remove King-Khan, Froch, Huck and Fury and replace with Canelo, Mikey Garcia, Kovalev and Wlad Klitschko. Do that and you have a pretty good list of highly-exciting fighters. I tend to not include the smaller men in this type of list because they usually don’t have as much devastating power that can stop fights at the drop of a hat — and in brutal fashion.

(Although I wouldn’t have included Fury based on exciting “boxing style,” I may have included him as the Honorable Mention based on sheer entertainment value — in the same way many would’ve included Ali for entertainment value. Dude is a straight comedian and you just never know what he’s gonna do or say with a mic. They should put him on a stage in Vegas after boxing).

Prof Konje

Te Dumbo said it right. How some of those guys made the list is very strange. There are too many to mention that are more exciting and who show more promise and who have deliverd than those some of those mentioned.

Fury? Stevenson? Huck? But no Mares, Rios, or Santa Cruz? this list is Bunk. Btw, Pacquiao* hasn’t been “exciting” beyond being a KO victim of Marquez in years. Fury is a KO waiting to happen; Adonis has KO’d ONE elite but declining opponent; and Huck engaging in life-and-death contests v. B-list opponents isn’t “exciting”. it’s disappointing. carp article with a distinct bias for obscure euro-fighters.

Not a bad list , I’m surprised that Sergio is not on there

The Marquez KO is more memorable than anything. Classic. Ni modo Pacquioa, a dormir…

Right on. PAC MAN has to be the most exciting fighter to watch. Doesn’t cherry pick opponants and will go to war

Yep, Pacman sure is a legend of the ring. Will never forget the way he smashed through Barrera in their first fight. And Pac v JMM 4 was absolutely awesome.

Felipe – FMJ is a master, like B-hop, but he is not very “exciting”. Klitchkos are masters, but not “exciting”.
