I don’t believe Floyd was looking at Guerrero when he said he had to step things up… I believe he’s thinking about the 5 fights he still needs to fulfill his contract. Guerrero was the easy one.. He’s going to have to fight Broner and Canelo.. Those guys are in their early 20’s.. It’s going to be a pretty tight squeeze for someone 36 and 37 years old.. So one of his solutions was to bring his dad back in, and Floyd Sr is actually the best technical trainer I’ve ever seen.. But he’s a tough guy to deal with because of his flaming ego and his non-stop yapping about his favorite subject. Himself … At least Floyd Jr gets off the subject of Floyd Jr once in a while so he’s not as insufferable as his father.. But Floyd will bite his lip and put up with his dad until he’s through the contract. And keep track on his blood pressure in the meantime.

@ hidalgo – put your idiocy away and learn a fact. FM V Cotto was not FM at his best. In pretty much every episode of the /24/7′ coverage leading up to the fight he states as much yet you think he should be fighting as he did against Cotto? FM and his team didn’t one year after the fact so why you? A personal judgement as opposed to a commonsene judgement given he clearly stated he gave himself a “D’ post Cotto fight.

Posted May 9, 2013 6:08 pm

@ Hildago re ‘After his fight with Cotto Floyd said “When you fight on pay-per-view you have to give the fans what they want, and that’s excitement,”Mayweather also said he stood toe-to-toe with Cotto to please the fans” and what happened after that fight? He brought his dad in and his dad tweaked his defence and returned Floyd to the Floyd of old because of concerns Floyd had about his defence “I got hit to much in that fight and that’s not my style’. A quote from 2 weeks ago. His defence improved as witnessed in the master class he gave RG. Ill say it again you novice, are fighters not allowed to change their sentiment and trainers in looking to improve? Floyd did lols He obviously saw the errors of fighting that way, in that fight against Cotto he gave himeslf a ‘D’. Obviously commonsense prevailed because he fought well over and above a ‘D’ in this fight. If all you are arguing on what he said one year ago look for something else. A lot happens in a year and has for him i.e. one year older, different trainer, a return to the Floyd of old (defensive genius). You are a novice that doesn’t understand boxing.

Posted May 9, 2013 5:53 pm

“For him to fight as you want – brawl –” Here we go again you Happyboy clone! Please quote when and where I said I wanted to see Mayweather “brawl” with Guerrero. Did you take your Midol today?

Posted May 9, 2013 1:24 am

“the sentiment of an idiot that knows nothing about boxing.” Wow, you know big words, Fight Scribe. But I’ll repeat myself: After his fight with Cotto Floyd said “When you fight on pay-per-view you have to give the fans what they want, and that’s excitement,”Mayweather also said he stood toe-to-toe with Cotto to please the fans. You do REMEMBER that don’t you Fight Scribe? Then, before his fight with Guerrero, when Floyd announded his father would be training him, he said he over-trained for his fight with Cotto and that’s why he didn’t perform in that fight as well as he wanted to–he wasn’t happy with the way his uncle Roger trained him for the Cotto fight. So, insult me all you want Fight Scribe–or is it Happyboy? Regardless, I just want you to know that I think of you everytime I fart.

Tark, Margarito beat Cotto, Cintron, Clottey, etc. Paul Williams record is pretty close to Cotto’s in my opinion and lets not forget how he dominated Winky Wright and right after Winky got robbed against Bernard

Posted May 9, 2013 12:45 am

People still say that Floyd ducked MargaCheato and Paul Williams… Cheato beat nobody at WW except Cotto… His next fight after Cotto was Mosley… Yes, IF he had beaten Mosley he would have been in line for a Floyd fight… But he got out-boxed every round and CRUSHED..

Williams beat nobody at WW.. After beating Cheato his next fight was supposed to be Cotto, but Bob Arum nixed the fight… Instead Bob engineered a plaster-blasting win for Cheato over Cintron to finagle a shot at Cotto. After doing his plaster act vs Cotto, Cheato got the Mosley shot — and everybody saw what in inept bum he was in that fight.

Fight Scribe

Hildago read your own posts re Mayweather ‘But he does have fight-stopping KO power’. As if the average fan doesn’t know that about FM. Your senseless rhetoric about Floyd fighting to please fans like he did in the Cotto fight is the sentiment of an idiot that knows nothing about boxing. The greatest fighters out there fight in the manner that their gifts allow. What FM does and did exceptionally well V RG is use foot and hand speed, he is virutally unbeatable fighting in this mode. For him to fight as you want – brawl – is tactical idiocy that would only be suggested by a moron that is looking to pick holes in one of the greatest fighters of the last 20 years and that is saying something in that there has being some exceptional fighters in the last 20 years.

“KC, Pain et al.,
Who cares about your opinion?”

You. lol! Why bother to reply if you don’t care?

You all know the truth and the truth is what I said. Floyd isn’t afraid of a fighter, he is afraid of humiliation.

Pacman may not be an entity right now, but when he was, Floyd’s been piggybacking on his popularity and the popularity of the superfight. He retired after Hatton, only to unretire when Pac took over the sport. Then what does he do? Fight him? NO. Unlike Leonard who came out to fight Hagler, unlike the other greats to rose up to the challenge to prove their greatness, he cherry picked his way back to the top by overhyping his fights and overhyping his opponents.

Floyd is great, but he isn’t THAT great. He is a ducker at best. Ducking a shot 5’6 midget does not make you great.

Posted May 7, 2013 2:33 pm

Hecdog, Cotto is one of my favorite fighters but real fight fans know that the second fight was unjustly stopped. Anyway Floyd should have fought them both when they were prime

Posted May 7, 2013 11:49 am

Hecdog, again the knuckle pads were soft and you are forgetting a whole lot of steroid users besides just mosley and Tarver. Margarito was simply perecuted by Golden Boy and HBO and your mob mentality bought into it.

Posted May 7, 2013 11:47 am

BTW, Maracho, for what it’s worth, Mosley should have received the same treatment as Margarito. But Mosley’s American, he’s an American legend, he’s better looking than Antonio, and he’s viewed as a “nice guy.” But he’s a cheater nonetheless and even though nobody but Mosley knows for sure, I bet he cheated for years and won a couple of championships while he was on PEDs. Oh well, he, Margarito, and Antonio Tarver can hold hands while they sit on the park bench together feeding pigeons.

Posted May 7, 2013 11:04 am

“You are a novice if you think boxers should abandon their base skills and brawl – even when they are not brawlers – to appease fans.” I never said nor even suggested that, Fight Scribe. Floyd’s not a brawler, never will be. But he does have fight-stopping KO power. He just rarely uses it. He should have on Saturday night however. Guerrero was there for the picking.

Posted May 7, 2013 10:59 am

Maracho, it will do no good to try to dissect what Margarito did. He willfully and intentionally loaded his gloves with the intent of inflicting great harm and injury on his opponents. It’s not important whether he had real plaster or just a few chemical traces in his wraps. You’re argument is akin to someone trying to defend a murderer by saying, “Well, he killed him with a knife. At least he didn’t use a gun.” Plus, Cheato was and is a raging liar. That’s why his career has plummeted into the nether world. He’s a vicious cheater and liar. You can’t change reality. Or history.

Posted May 7, 2013 10:53 am

“Cheato was saved by the stoppage because Cotto said he was fixing to smash him down like Mosley did if he got one more round to lay into the loser.” This is true. So many detractors claim that Margarito was coming on and that if he had one or two more rounds he would have beaten Cotto just like he did in their first fight. Sorry detractors, if that fight would have gone one or two more rounds, Cheato would have either been blinded or disfigured for life. Cotto was targeting Cheato’s bad eye. The ref stopped the fight to save Cheato, not Miguel Cotto. It was a great win for Cotto, especially the mental aspect of it.

Posted May 7, 2013 10:48 am

yeah margarito came on like gang busters in the later rounds in both Cotto fights. By the way, Cotto’s face was busted up way worse against Pacman

Posted May 7, 2013 10:48 am

Actually, Margarito was typically coming on like gang busters in the later rounds when the ref unjustly called it off. By the way, even Pacman admitted to being curled up for days in the fetal position because of margarito’s body punches.

Posted May 7, 2013 10:44 am

Icherrypic@135, exactly and since these cheaters are technologically way ahead of the commissions, maybe what needs to happen is for the commissions to start storing boxer’s test results for future anaylis like they did with Lance Armstrong ten years later.

Posted May 7, 2013 10:40 am

Cotto smashed out margarito in the 2nd fight! Cheaters never win! NEVER! Remember that yall

Posted May 7, 2013 10:32 am

Knuckle pads are are not a criminal act. If they were, Margarito would be in jail. Team Margarito only admitted that all knuckle pads are against the rules. Again no plaster was ever found on those knuckle pads and the cali kangaroo court knew it and why they waited until after the trial to reveal it.

Anyone with half a brain know’s Mosley was roided out like a mother when he fought Margarito ,it’s evident when you seen Mosley next 2 performances one he was gases out in 2 rounds against Floyd 2nd he was man handled by a D level opponent Sergio Mora who at best is a Club fighting Champion in your local YMCA

Posted May 7, 2013 10:19 am

Maracho you have to explain it in simple terms so that the Mayweather fan club can understand

Posted May 7, 2013 10:13 am

Dan D

Maracho, Tark has you rocking and reeling on this one. You argument will have more substance if you can answer the following 9which Tark also already mentioned) What happened to Margo’s fearsome ‘power’ during the Mosley fight and subsequent fights thereafter?

Posted May 7, 2013 7:14 am

Floyd’s Xylocaine, on the other hand, directly effects the central nervous system and cardiovascular system and can be useful in arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) suppression and the inhibition of Norepinephrine (adrenaline/stress hormone/fight or flight response) and thus, could also allow one to relax and retain stamina in the face of prolonged stressful situations.

Posted May 7, 2013 1:54 am

Tark, I have read the court documents and its now common knowledge that the cali Commission, court advisers and witnesses including mosley testified that the pads were soft and pliable and no plaster was actually found–just some elements that make calcium sulfide thts commonly found in nevada and used in various medicines and fungicides.

Oh and did you know that the cali courts are among the worst judical hellholes in the country?

Margarito’s lawyers found that the Commission violated his due process rights by not producing the laboratory testing results for the right hand-wrap until months after the hearing and thus did not in any way base its decisions on these lab results (which did not yet exist on February 10, 2009). Thus, the Commission found that margarito merely violated the rules of simply useing knuckle pads Regulation 323. (Petr. ‘s Mem. P. & A., 15: 15-16 fn. 9.)

So if the called plaster was so dangerous then why didnt the trial use it in court? because the plaster of Paris was just a sensationalistic springboard for slanderous media mob mentality and you sucked it all in like Aunt Bee from Mayberry.

Posted May 7, 2013 1:37 am

maracho…, You are the most uninformed man on the planet.. Don’t you read??? EVERYBODY with a brain understands Cheato got caught with plastered wraps.. Very few boxers would risk injuring or killing someone with plaster of paris applied to wet wraps that dry hard as a rock.. It’s not the first time a boxer has been caught doing this and probably won’t be the last — but never before in such a high profile fight has a boxer been caught cold with plastered wraps.. Many people knew what it was.. People in Boxing are familiar with the technique, but the wraps were sent to a chemical laboratory for expensive chemical analysis, just to absolutely confirm what the substance on the wraps was.. It was chemically analyzed and the evidence was there for all to see.. It was plaster that indeed hardened.. Cheato’s trainers admitted they did it and were fined and suspended.

Before Cheato was caught he was crushing people with punches… In the Mosley fight, where he was forced to rewrap, he was brutally KO’d. And in every fight since, because the opposition kept an eagle eye on Cheato and his team to make sure he wasn’t cheating, he never was able to stop anybody again. Where did his power go??? Gone with the plastered wraps……

Posted May 7, 2013 12:37 am

Tark, the one who officially caught cheating big time was Shane Mosley but then you always give his kind a pass. Even Mosley admitted that Margarito was merely charged with using something that most boxers have been caught trying to use– knuckle pads that were NOT hard and NOT made of plaster. Margarito was simply persecuted because 1. He messed up an undefeated HBO prospect. 2. He nade Mayweather shiver and shake in public 3. He talked about the beating he put on De la Hoya up at Big Bear. Its kinda like when Floyd and Oscar did everything in their power to get larry merchant fired.

Posted May 6, 2013 11:39 pm

Old Coot…. Forget MargaCheato.. You forget that Cheato also lost to Dan Santos and Paul Williams…so it wasn’t just those 3 defeats Cheato suffered earlier in his career. Cheato didn’t beat ANYBODY outstanding but Cotto, and then he got the Mosley fight. He was probably cheating for Santos and Williams, given how much impact the few shots he landed had, so maybe they upped the amount of Plaster of Paris and water in his wraps and he got caught. Some teams send better observers than other teams and you might have an experienced commissioner who won’t sign off so easily if they feel damp wraps. I think most of these commissioners are oblivious and have their heads up their rears–so the team member has to be really good—like Nazim Richardson.

But the biggest indication is what happened to Cheato AFTER he was exposed and had to rewrap his hands before the Mosley fight. They brought in a fresh pair of gloves and followed Cheato all the way down the aisle to the ring. Nazim stationed a guy in Cheato’s corner to observe his seconds closely between rounds and every chief trainer of an opponent has done the same thing since. Cheato’s power disappeared in the Mosley fight … and in all of his fights after that.

@ Hildago – so Floyd cannot re-evaluate his tactics a year after his last fight? You think you have the say re that? Are you nfighters should deliberately fight in a phone booth because that’s what the fans want to see? That they should abandon what makes them winners, what keeps their brain matter intact for later in life just to please fans? Where are those fans when you can count to 10 without your daughter holding up her fingers? Where are those fans when you can’t remember your wife’s name? If fight fans only want to see brawls, back alley type boxing fights they should look up the likes of Willie Pep, Pernell Whittaker, FM, Sugar Ray Leonard, RJJ, Larry Holmes, Andre Ward, Bernard Hopkins, Harry Greb, Benny Leonard etc. You are a novice if you think boxers should abandon their base skills and brawl – even when they are not brawlers – to appease fans.

“There never WAS a prime undefeated Cheato.. He lost 3 X in his 1st dozen fights.. He couldn’t box or punch..”

Well Tark… You are right… I stand corrected… I’d actually forgot that Margo lost 3 early on… I was focused on the ten year undefeated stretch before anyone knew he was cheating. From Oct 1996 to Sept 2004, he was a rising star, winning nearly two dozen fights in a row, and during the undefeated decade, he called Floyd out repeatedly, to no avail… Which only makes it worse that Floyd ducked Margo with 3 losses, (as was the case when Floyd first ducked Pacquiao), and this was before we knew he Margarito was plaster cheat.

Enough of your nonsense. Floyd is a cherry picker. Pac is a WARRIOR. That is the difference. Floyd’s still afraid even of a SHOT Pacman.

If he is still a genius, why not fight Pac now? Even if the superfight has lost a significant amount of hype, it is still worth a lot more than that 6 time fight deal with Showtime.

Why does he still insist Pac didn’t agree on the drug testing issue?

Pac is giving in to the purse. Still can’t reach a deal? Again, the superfight may still be worth more than those 6 fights with Showtime. 1 fight vs. 6. Does this even make sense to Floyd?

Is it Bob Arum? The fact that Pac is still with Top Rank? If Floyd is all about money, Pac being with Arum is gonna be the lamest excuse not to fight.

Too much disadvantage for Pac at this point, yet he still won’t fight him.

There is only one reason, people. Same reason it has always been. Fear of losing that 0. Fear of losing badly.

Pac is too much risk for his legacy. If Pac beats him (which he will), Pac takes all the glory.

Posted May 6, 2013 11:58 am

Supreme Court, first of all, the knuckle pads only covered one knucle on each hand, they never did get hard, and they were found to not be made of plaster . Plus Margarito put lot of hurt on Pacman and on Cotto in their last fight, which btw was unjustly stopped. Finally please do us all a favor and go punch a heavy bag for 9 rounds with some plaster evenly distributed accross your knuckles.

Posted May 6, 2013 11:55 am

“you guys bring up infantile points” No, Fight Scribe. My points are quite valid. Floyd himself validated them to some extent when he lamented about the way he fought against Cotto. Floyd didn’t like getting his pretty little nose flattened and bloody. So he fought safer this time. But you decide: After the Cotto fight, Floyd said he fought that way because he wanted to entertain and please the fans. Yet before his fight with Guerrero, he blamed his performance in the Cotto fight on being “over-trained.” Then Sr. says, for this fight Floyd is “going to box!” Floyd fought a safe fight against Guerrero. Of course he still dominated him and won handily. But that’s what Floyd usually does. Except this time, he decided to limit his risk to the easiest win possible. You, me, and everyone else saw it for yourselves. All you have to do is admit it.

Hidalgo, how was Floyd’s fight so safe? He was standing there with his hands down often setting up Guerrero for the lead right hand and sweeping hook…. The announcers we commenting initially that they were surprised he was flat footed… If he fought so safe how did he hit Guerrero with so many clean shots and at such a high rate of accuracy??? AHHHHHHHH that legendary defense was on display and he completely neutralized Guerreros attacks so of COURSE a boxing novice such as yourself saw this as “playing it safe”.. Where was all the volume Guerrero showed against the younger Berto? Ahhhh those stinging punches shut him down… If you were soooooooo disappointed WHAT would have appeased you a KO like that lovely shot he landed on serial head butter and part time “Billy Goat” Victor Ortiz?? Even that fight you took up for Ortiz like he had been wronged and did not get what was coming to him you fool, time was in and Mayweather took advantage of a fighter who was frustrated and clearly fighting dirty…. KO…Floyds not a wild man like Pacquaio who I’m a fan of also, walking into killer blows and getting flat lined… He’s the SMARTEST boxer alive.

Posted May 6, 2013 7:19 am

Haimat – Floyd landed 60% of his power punches while Guerrero landed only 19% of his total punches. Take a look at RB’s face and tell me if you get those swellings, bruises and cuts from someone running or spanking your ass. Tell us if you want someone to school you on what boxing is or isn’t. There are many ways to skin a cat and standing flat footed going toe to toe with your opponent is not the only way of winning a fight you haters come on this site spitting nonsense and exposing your lack of knowledge about boxing. Canelo would get beaten up more by Floyd especially wheh he starts getting tired in the later rounds, a good boxer always spanks a good puncher and Canelo is not even the hardest puncher out there.

Posted May 6, 2013 6:17 am

Canelo is a different animal than Guerrero. He’s a natural 154 lb fighter. Guerrero is a former Featherweight. Canelo would win rounds against Floyd just like Guerrero did only more clearly. Canelo would have to cut off the ring and unleash combinations whenever in range, which he does well. The only chance Floyd has in that fight is to use the same footwork that he used against Guerrero and pop shot all night. Canelo is too strong to exchange punches with. Floyd will “run” all night and win a “boring” decision.
Should Floyd trade punches like he did against Cotto he’ll get kayoed.
Against Canelo we’ll see the same type of performance from Floyd like we saw against Guerrero, only even more defensive. Canelo has a puncher’s chance should he land something early and get to Floyd but my money is on Floyd. I’ll doubt we’ll see that fight soon. Too big a risk for the Mayweather team.

“facing the East on your prayer rug? Begging God for a loss” Huh? Begging God for a loss? For who? Go back and read my previous posts silly boy. I clearly and repeatedly stated Guerrero had no chance against Floyd, that Robert was no top 10 P4P boxer. I watched the fight in hopes of seeing Floyd take him out–but I knew Floyd was going to win nonetheless. Now prove me wrong on that. Prove me wrong that I didn’t say that. You’re pissing just to piss. But you keep missing your target! That’s called futility, dude! Floyd Mayweather Jr. fought a safe fight. That was clear to see for any experienced boxing fan. Of course, then there are those whom color influences more than anything else. Especially when they are of the same color as the boxer they are ranting about. That would be you SRedmond. At least I admit when I’m wrong and I don’t sit on these boards lying about who I picked or making triple choices or keep my mouth shut because I just don’t know–like you do. Floyd did what he was expected to do and no more. Pretty sad in my book. A lot of fans got ripped off.

Posted May 6, 2013 2:18 am

SRedmond, I never said I didn’t watch Floyd Mayweather Jr. fights, I said I didn’t pay for them. I also never said Floyd didn’t pick Guerrero apart. As for “You were sure Pacquiao was gonna trounce Marquez in that 3rd fight” what are you talking about? When did I ever say Pacquiao would trounce Marquez in their third fight? What happened in the 4th round? Are you talking about their 4th fight? You say Floyd hit Robert with everything but the kitchen sink. Hardly. Go back and watch the Guerrero/Aydin fight. Aydin had Robert in trouble in that fight–Floyd never got close to dooing that–because he was playing it SAFE! You know damn well Floyd has KO power. Remember how much you raved over his sucker-punch KO “win” over Victor Ortiz? BTW, no one said anything about Guerrero being a punk except you. I knew Robert would get blown out before the fight ever started and I said so over and over and over. But Floyd took the easy route. He made it clear he could hit Guerrero pretty much at will yet he never even attempted to take him out. That’s called playing it safe. That’s why fans booed–Floyd was clearly winning but chose to dance and run around the ring–remember the boos?? Stand on your soap box and bang your spoon on your pot all you want. I know what I saw. Floyd took the easy road to his riches. Again. Typical.

Hidalgo, acts like Floyd did not “pick Guerrero apart” ummmmm yeah he did what figt were you watching? Or did you miss the action when you were facing the East on your prayer rug? Begging God for a loss… He was clinically slamming shots into Roberts head and deftly avoiding his attempts at retaliation…. Sorry Floyd did not receive the script you wanted him to follow but he did Well without your silly choreography…

154 is a limit it does not mean you have to weigh 154, but you cannot weigh more… You can be 150 or 151…. Floyd spotted Ortiz 14 pounds

Posted May 6, 2013 12:23 am

Floyd weighed in at 151 for the Cotto fight and came it at 147 night of the fight. Floyd walks around at 150.

Posted May 6, 2013 12:08 am

It was as easy as I thought it was going to be….for Mayweather that is.

Done Deal, where you getting thse walk around weights from and how on earth is mayweather’s walk-around weight only 147 when he fights over 150 when fighting at Jr. Middleweight?

Posted May 5, 2013 11:42 pm

True that Pac did not score the fights. The thing I hate most is to lose a fight and you know you lost JMM Pac 3. Go to your corner and pray to God for win is just messed up.

Posted May 5, 2013 11:38 pm

BTW Supreme Court, Pacquiao didn’t “rob” Marquez of anything. The judges scored those fights. Pacquiao just fought them.

Posted May 5, 2013 11:31 pm

“1- He never faced a fellow beltholder in any of so called 8-classes he went through.”

Supreme Court, you’re wrong.

Pacquiao fought fellow beltholders Ledwaba, Marquez, and Morales for their titles. He beat fellow beltholder David Diaz for his WBC lightweight title. He beat fellow beltholder Ricky Hatton for his IBO light welterweight title. Pacquiao beat fellow beltholder Miguel Cotto for his WBO welterweight title.

So you see, Pacquiao fought six fellow beltholders during his reign.

Posted May 5, 2013 11:28 pm

Easy thing to do. You don’t like PBF don’t watch is fights or post to his articles. Post to the guys like Canelo got his A whupped and the judges gave him the fight.

Hidalgo, whats wrong with you man? your very troubled and need some therapy

Posted May 5, 2013 11:11 pm

Fight Scribe, I predicted that Floyd would “pick Guerrero apart.” I expected him to TKO Robert. Look man, even the fans live at the fight were booing loudly. Lots of fans! This man is supposed to be the GOAT! You think that was a GOAT performance? Honestly, do you? Against Robert Guerrero? The guy that was overwhelmingly expected to lose? I expected Floyd to smash him but he didn’t. He played it safe, pot-shotting most of the time, with a couple of flurries thrown in here and there, but all he wanted to do and all he did do was score points to get the win. Sorry, but hugely disappointing performance in my book. And certainly not worth one tenth of what Mayweather will get paid for that safe performance. What a let-down.

Posted May 5, 2013 11:03 pm

Fight scribe remove Castillo from that list he beat Mayweather

Posted May 5, 2013 10:59 pm

“One wonders why!” I don’t fight scribe. My gripe with Floyd has nothing to do with his wealth, his color or anything personal about him. My gripe with Floyd is that he won’t give a true championship performance. He sucker-punched his way to a win over Victor Ortiz and now he fights a safe fight achieving a UD win over Guerrero. You think that fight–that win—was worth the millions of dollars Floyd will make for 36 minutes of work in the ring? Do you? Robert Guerrero–the guy Selchuk Aydin rocked so many times that Robert was seeing canaries flying around his head for two weeks after that fight. BFD! Floyd was the over-whelming favorite the day the fight was announced! Anyone with half a brain cell of knowledge about boxing knew Robert was no match for Floyd, yet they believed Floyd’s line: “He’s the best out there.” Mayweather should change his handle to “Safe” because that’s the way he likes to fight.

Fighting Words

Interesting – People talk about Don King as someone who take advantage of fighter out their purse. He never took or take advantage of the fans by providing good quality fights for your money. It is call competition folks when fighters are fighting each other and they have different promotors is when the fights will be competitive. I picked Guerrero to win because of being a South Paw and him being a active fighter, but but it slip my mind that both fighters are promoted by Golden Boy. One fighter a big name and has a $250 million contract for 6 fights in which GB have a stake in and the other is just another fighter. I guess conventional wisdom would say who had the promise to win. It appears to be clear why GBP and Top Rank fighters don’t fight each other. Yes boxing is a business, given that where is the competitive market to offer good fights to the fans. Just as any other business have a competitor to keep the quality of goods at a fair price. The fans are not getting a fair fight for the buck when one promotor is controlling both fighters. Just something to observe when picking a winner, with that said.. Long Live Don “Only in America” King. The great Larry Homles once said, with Don King robbing you, you will still make more money then the other promotors are paying you. Just a food for thought to be aware of picking winner, If any of the 5 fighters in the line up to fight Mayweather complete his 6 fights $250 million contract with Show Time is promoted by GBP, it will be safe to say Mayweather 0 will remain in tact.

Canelo and Triple G should fight for the Mw championship , but i see no one is demanding that fight. Also why wont Gennady step up to 168 and fight Ward or 175 and fight the old man. PBF walks around at 150lbs, Alverez 160+, Bronner 155+, Guerrero 150+, Cotto 160+, etc…Even Hatton walked around at 170lbs. PBF is the smaller man in ring in 95% of his fights. Remember he started his pro debute at 133lbs.

You Floyd haters are so ignorant its comical. Even if he beat Alverez and any other fighter named haters will still make excuses because that is what incompetent peiople do. Manny Chemical Pacquiao is the biggest FRAUD in boxing history:
1- He never faced a fellow beltholder in any of so called 8-classes he went through.
2- He never faced for 10 yrs an undefeated fighter. The first time he did, he was defeated by Bradley.
3- He created the catch-weight scam and successfully scammed the boxing world, fighting weight drained-old-past prime fighters on a loosing stretches.
4 He scammed the boxing world by fighting a belt at 154 a division he never fought in before and at a catch weight,!
5- He built his career avoiding boxers, but fighting past-prime brawlers.
5- when he dared fight the boxer in Marquez, he robbed him 3 times, the 4th time, his gargantuesque head was historically buried in the canvas, so the world could the Al Capone of boxing!
All great fighters have left Bob Arum, except one….Guess who?

Old Coot says…, “Prime undefeated (pre-cheat) Margarito”

There never WAS a prime undefeated Cheato.. He lost 3 X in his 1st dozen fights.. He couldn’t box or punch.. He was many, many years younger than Mosley when he lost every single round and got smashed out by Sugar Shane — who lost by a wide margin to Floyd in his next fight.. Cheato never stopped a single opponent after his plaster was taken away.. Proving that he’s been cheating all along.

Besides… Cheato has ALWAYS been a cheater… He finally got caught.

Let’s see… When he’s not hand-picking sure things with only good speed at best and lead feet like Sharmba Mitchell and old guys like Baldomir, or his latest pushover Guerrero, Floyd is faking retirement to duck the likes of a rematch with De La-Hoya, duck a prime undefeated Cotto, a prime undefeated (pre-cheat) Margarito, and a prime undefeated Paul Williams… Then he used another fake retirement, and unfounded PED accusations, coupled with unwarranted demands to avoid Pacquiao. Now, I’m just wondering what excuse Floyd will use to avoid finally moving up to LMW where he should have been years ago, and face the likes of Trout, Alvarez, and Martirasyan.

Now unfortunately, People are going to ask Robert Guerrero: “You fought Manny Pac and now you Fought Floyd” Who would you think would win a fight between them.

Posted May 5, 2013 4:23 pm

Strauss writes.., “Robert discovered just like Freddie had their real opponent’s speed was much greater than any sparring partner could duplicate.” So Floyd is the fastest man alive?

It’s not speed that is the number one determinant of victory. If you watch competing gymnasts do their tumbling runs they all exhibit good speed on their runs—but their sharpness, form, and technical mastery vary greatly. There are 10 skill levels, and a senior elite level 10 gymnast—which is an Olympic level competitor—will blow away a level 4 competitor who is more athletically gifted. Floyd’s focus is on craft and skills because it’s the answer to beating a faster, more powerful opponent. Floyd was out sped by Judah early in their fight—but made many technical adjustments and began controlling the fight by round 4. As a boxer ages his strategic savvy and technical mastery become ever more important. They have to keep advancing for him to survive as the best in the game.

Dont see money n canelo fight unless canelo can make weight at 147. The fact that floyd allowed himself to be stripped of his 154 lb wba belt shows he has no intention of fighting at 154 again. So whose out there at 147? Pac? Bradley? Jmm? Alexander? I hope its pac. Lets hope bob arum allows pac to take the 40 mil and random drug testing! Lets hope!

Not sure why you folks think Canelo has more than a punchers chance against Floyd. The guy is slow, one dimensional and easy to hit and has no stamina. Besides, he is a bigger guy and should be heading North for fights with GGG, Martinez and co. But something tells me he will get his chance soon and when it’s all said and done, it will be the same old story; easy money for May.

Posted May 5, 2013 3:51 pm

Tim, actually.. since we’re being irrational… the biggest threat on the planet for the best boxer on the planet, would be one of the Klitsckos. Canelo will duck Lara/Vanes …he’s duck GGG etc. To call out past prime WW’s who can’t make 154. Canelo isn’t a big name outside the hardcore fan circuit, and people in Mexico… Floyd has better fighters to fight, guys who will have lasting really good legacies, There are three men in the P4P list that are actually in Floyd’s division that he can fight next…. but anyway… will you please send me that list of 24-29 fighters with better resumes and performances than FMJ?

Crown Prince of Whales

Watching Floyd is never as exciting as I think it will be, but listening to his cheerleaders flatter his every move is always as predictable as I know it will be.

Posted May 5, 2013 3:34 pm

Happyboy- I noticed the same thing. Could it be that Floyd feels he has finally made all his money and has decided to make this farewell tour with a more relaxed attitude?
And in terms of the fight, Guerrero came in with a good idea, throw his left low after Floyd threw his right and try to catch Floyd ducking down. And he almost caught him a couple of times, but Floyd adjusted quickly and Guerrero ran out of options. He was too slow in the middle of the ring and May swallowed him ip on the inside. It was hard to tell who embarrassed him more inside the ring, Floyd by absolutely doing whatever he wanted, or his dad with that ridiculous tirade after the final bell. Hopefully we can have some piece and quiet and we won’t have to hear his promo machine selling us Guerrero’s “6 championships in 4 divisions…”? The wrapping fell of the packaged good. Amen.

While Canelo is popular I don’t think the casual fans know who Canelo is yet. Floyd should fight him just before retirement.

Tim: I didn’t read your entire post, but please tell me the 24-29 fighters who have better resumes than FMJ and put on better performances? Give me that all-time list with those 24-29 names please. I’m not fighting with you, I’m challenging your stance here. 130-140 I’d favor a prime Floyd to beat any ATG. Floyd is making P4Pers and multiple division champions look like sparring partners, 17 years into his career, and campaigning in his 4th division. Canelo honestly wouldn’t be the best fighter FMJ has fought, so what’s the difference? FMJ isn’t a 154er

Posted May 5, 2013 3:20 pm

PBF vs. Canelo is the biggest fight in boxing right now. It would generate a rediculous amount of PPV buys and sell out the stadium easily. The Greatest Fighter on the Planet vs. the Greatest Threat on the Planet. It makes money and sense. 2 undefeated fighters. Age vs. Youth. Boxer vs. Puncher. How can this fight not happen next? There is absolutely no reason why this fight shouldn’t happen next. Only way it doesn’t happen is if Canelo ducks PBF or PBF ducks Canelo. No other way. This is the ONLY FIGHT that makes sense for either fighter. Who else can they fight that will generate ANY type of publix appeal. Answer, nobody.

Floyd did make some mistakes last night. He got out of position a couple of times, and didn’t look as smooth as usual. Some of that can be attributed to ring rust. But at 36, he’s not going to get any better, obviously he’s past his prime.

LMAO at Rueben Guerrero wishing Mayweather would have fought Robert with cement in his shoes. What a maroon….

Floyd is too elusive for Canelo at this point. Mayweather may fight him on his last fight, but there’s no need for him to go up to 154, when he easily makes 147, and his legacy is already set. If Mayweather was the 22 year ole, and Canelo was the established P4P best in the world at 154, then things would be different.

Floyd showed decline.. he’s not as fluid.. but his punch technique is flawless, he doesn’t show his punches, and they are quick… there are faster guys than FMJ… but not any that sudden… he’s hitting you with one shot, and the shot you knew he would throw going in, and the shot he’s been hitting you with for half an hour. His offense is legendary.

The Bottom line is, Mayweather has no need to chase anyone. He’s the biggest name in the sport, and any fighter that gets in the ring with him at this point is getting a great oppertunity at facing a destined Hall of Famer, and ATG.

Posted May 5, 2013 3:12 pm

Canelo is only 22 years old and they want to put him in with Floyd? Floyd has over 22 years of Boxing experience and judging from last night he is still pretty sharp. It’s too early to fight Canelo as of yet, Floyd would take away his power and make him fight Floyds fight.

Mick, it seems as thow something is wrong with the “Say it!” button. I seem to have better luck with it when I press the button down for a few seconds then release it. Still I copy all of my post before I send them just incase it doesn’t work. Then I can paste the message and try again.

Funny how you guys spin doctor stuff. Canelo is in his prime and fights old fighters the fist threat he faces in Trout judges have to rob him for Canelo to get a win. PBF is not in his prime anymore and is picking his fights correctly. ODH made a career out of picking smaller fighters or forcing fighters to come up or drop down to his weight level. Either ODH would lose the fight or rob the real winner with shady judging.

Nice try Guerrero, you deserved the shot, with your victory over Berto. You came in confident, and gave it your all. Better luck next time.

ESB is fast becoming a farcicail farce. I’m told I’m posting too quickly on my 1st edit!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!……….

Fact is, PBF always seems to fight the guys people “don’t” want to see him fight, at least not at the time he fights them. That is my point. I am not questioning his greatness. He IS a great fighter. I say Top 25-30 based on the quality of opponents he faced WHEN he faced them. Date and times don’t lie. Now, had he beat Hatton @ 140lbs when Hatton was considered a monster or beat Margarito @ 147 when Margarito was considered a monster or beat Cotto @ 147lbs when he was considered a monster or beat Pac-man when he was considered a monster…..then I would DEFINITELY agree that he should be within the Top 15. I couldn’t really go lower than that because his era didn’t have fighters like Hearns, Leonard, Chavez, Hagler, Duran, Prior, Norris, Camacho, etc. Those guys were on a different level than any fighter in this era, besides PBF and Pac-man. People may not like that, but it’s true. But again, I believe PBF is a great fighter. I want to see him fight Canelo next so we can see him fight somebody who hasn’t shown a “chink” in his chain. Wouldn’t that be nice for once?

the skeletal figure is a calavera but not Santa Muerto, i.e., the grim reaper. it’s nothing more than a cultural nod to the Mexican’s embrace of death even while pursuing life. hopefully this explanation will prevent any more gringo moments among ESB’s peanut gallery.

Right you cant always go by the 0 because fighters like Alvarez, Chavez, several European fighters, etc… had been overly protected

$5,000,000 says that Strass will post at least one undermining comment in this article to bad mouth Floyd. He’s a certified Klansman, and I’ll be shocked if after reading this article props were given without the extra stuff.

Larry and Tim I reckon you’re both partly right. Mayweather IS up there as a GOAT, but in case you missed it in the post fight interview part of his and his teams strategy is picking the right person to fight. They want to make money and keep the 0 intact. This is frustrating for a lot of fans, who want to see how this wizard deals with a deep, dark challenge in the 11th round against, say, a prime Pacman. Compare this selection strategy of the Mayweather camp to, say, Thomas Hearns in his prime. He took on Leonard, lost in a late round and everyone loved him anyway. There are not too many other fighting sports where the top guys don’t get around to fighting each other. It’s bad for boxing, the fans hate it and PBF and his team seem to be a prime example of this problem. Still one of the GOAT.

Some of you are talking into the wind bringing up past fights such as Cotto. The fact is that Floyd beat Cotto just as he beat Guerrero. What happened in the past doesn’t matter. What matters are the facts and the here and now. Mayweather is still undefeated and that’s a fact!

Saul too will fail against Floyd Jr.

Posted May 5, 2013 2:31 pm

Floyd is a GOAT. Funny thing I noticed is the respectful manner he has been carrying himself before and after the show his relationship with his dad, kids, family, staff, commentators, media giving props to Guerrero, no more smack talk, just a mature, respectful man and I haven’t heard even one fan give him props for that, not one.

Public enemy, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:18

Tim, u are just one of those people who do not think. PBF is so static that he does not change right? Everyone said Guerero was at his peak and PBF beat him. Even if he beats Canelo u guys will still not give him that credit. So he only waits for people to slow before he fights them meaning PBF skill level has never gone down, right? Such a myopic way of reasoning. Come out of your shelves, PBF is definitely among the top five all time haters.

Done Deal

Floyd schooled Robert as expected. We all knew he was on another level befor the fight started. The haters will continue to hate and make incompetent excuses to satisfy there ego’s. Mayweather is the best fighter in the game and one of the best of all time period end.

Jesus Christ and God have better things to worry about then Guerrero and Mayweathers fight..

Floyd is a tremendous boxer as skilled as any ever but he lackes the faith of he Andre Wards who would have taken on the likes of Mosley, Margarito, Pacman, Cotto, La Hoya, etc,, while they were still in their most prime.

Must “The Annoying Watson Twins” be ever present? Does Showtime realize how moronic they look in there?

Speaking of Showtime, Mauro Ranallo must go. He is worse than Gus Johnson. Another instant screaming talking head who knows squat about boxing.

The Mexican skeleton with the cigar also must go.

It’s a veritable freak show out there.

I think PBF is a great boxer, definitely one of the all time greats, probably Top 30 at this point in his career. My only gripe is that PBF seems to only fight guys “at the right time” for his personal liking, not when they appear to be a real legit challenge. In other words, he seems to target fighters who have already shown a “chink” in their chain that he can exploit, now that someone already did it. He didn’t fight Kotszu or Hatton @ 140lbs when the entire boxing world thought they were the “The Men to Beat”, he didn’t fight Margarito or Cotto @ 147lbs when the entire boxing world thought they were both “The Men to Beat”, and he didn’t fight Pac-man when the entire boxing world thought he was the “The Ultimate Man to Beat”. Simply put, he just doesn’t take the risks of the greatest fighters who came before him, Ali, Robinson, Duran, Hearns, Leonard, Chavez, Whitaker, De La Hoya, Trinidad, etc. So many fighters in the past took on the biggest and most lethal threats to prove their greatness. I just wish PBF would because he truly is a great fighter. Now, Canelo stands in front of him as “The #1 Man to Beat”. Will he fight Canelo next? If history repeats itself, I say no. Sad but probably true.

Just read Yahoo’s Kevin (what’s his name) column, wheeeew that guy is a true Floyd Maywether hater. This guy has the nerve to question the level of competition Floyd has faced since the day he entered the ring. According to Kevin Floyd shouldn’t be mentioned with the like of Ali, Ray Roberson, etc… But if this was a white boxer (not some slugger most people prefer) he would be the best thing since fried chicken. These writers kill me the way they dismiss ever guy Floyd fights because the man prepares not to lose & his skills are impeccable. I’ll bet dollars to cents that if Floyd was a white boxer there wouldn’t be one sports writer out there making excuses why he’s not an ATG…..Last night Floyd took Robert & his dad to a boxing clinic, then went out with $32mil ++++ for his troubles. Mayweather hands down best on Planet.

Posted May 5, 2013 1:54 pm

Great point Tark about Paul’s parable about him being a spiritual boxer, which is all about comparing his willingness to sacrifice his body and material wellbeing for a place in heaven and just as an athlete sacrifices for the big win. Maybe Gurrero lost a bit of faith as the fight went on; taaking less chances perhaps because he was not willing to sacrifice or risk a KO for the win.

Public E…Mayweather moved up in weight to beat Cotto and he fought toe to toe with him… this fight Guerrero I think like second time he fought at 147 and Mayweather didn’t go toe to toe

Posted May 5, 2013 1:31 pm

PUBLIC ENEMY: Cotto may have lost to Mayweather, but he put on an excellent fight and Mayweather said he knew he couldn’t afford to get careless with Cotto– not even for one second. Quite the opposite with Guerrero — Mayweather even tweeted to a friend during corner break in 10th round regarding plans for the “after-party”. There’s not much of the “Mexicanada” bravado on ESB now that Guerrero lost. Where are our sunshine patriots?

Posted May 5, 2013 1:12 pm

Na Floyd tore Cotto up and almost knocked him out in the 12th. Just cause Cotto bloodied his nose does not mean he beat him up

Posted May 5, 2013 12:41 pm

sad but true

Only Father Time beats Floyd at this point. Only thing others can hope for that he’s not Bernard Hopkins the II.
