THE fight of the year is Brandon Rio vs MIke Alvarado… Clean, brutal, an bell to bell.

Abner Mares easy choice for fighter of the year

I wouldn’t consider Guerrero fighter of the year, nor would I consider Broner. By the way, Escabedo and Perez are not that great of competition specially when walking in much bigger then they are.. Honestly, I think that the best fighter of this year is Abner Mares.

I would go with Broner.

NO. The Ortiz-Berto definitely fit the billing; but not this one.

This fight shouldn’t be FOTY and more than the Joey Giardello-Gene Fullmer fight… At least sportwriters wrote that Fullmer was a disgrace to Boxing… Giardello said, “Was this a boxing or wrestling match? Fullmer is a bum. All he does is tackle and ram with hs helmut. I landed all the clean punches—all Fullmer landed was elbows, rabbit punches, and head-butts.” It was the dirtiest fight before Guerrero-Berto came along.

A FOTY award would be enough shine on his name for Jr to get in the ring w/ Guerrero. Not sure Guerrero will get it. Broner is heavily backed & had an excellent showing in his only fight vs. a reigning title holder. As someone else mentioned Donaire is overdue. Klitschko is overdue as well. Mares also had a great year vs. better comp.

oh my god.

Yeah, give it to him. He looks like a nice guy and he can box pretty good.

The Kingslayer

No FOTY should go to Nonito Donaire .

Tark, I absolutely agree with your position, however it will be ignored.

I agree with Phanco’s comment…. “It’s hard to imagine Guerrero getting that award based on wins over Aydin and Berto because both fighters were limited.” … Berto looked horrible. His movement was tortoise like. He was an open target with his new revised and downgraded stance. He didn’t retaliate early enough for the dirty tactics Guerrero employed. There was no cuts on Berto’s face or eyes—but he looked like a poster child for what can happen with “thumbless gloves” when you’re the victim of thumb strikes on both eyes. He finally retaliated with one of his own. Berto often played the steer to Guerrero’s cowboy in a steer wrestling contest, getting bulled against the ropes as Lou Moret said “no wrestling” in a soft voice. Guerrero also displayed great Greco-Roman Wrestling technique. Lou Moret kept a sharp eye on the fouling. He warned the fighters for at least 120 of 193 of them.

Fighter of the year? No way not even close.

Hmmm. Well, I wouldn’t say for beating THESE guys directly. But, he is the ONLY Champ @ Welter who is actually fighting more than 1nce per year. So based on THAT? Maybe…
