I give Mares his props. He DID what he had to DO in order to WIN. But he is still no match for Donaire. He will be stopped as I predicted LONG AGO. Nothing has changed.

So one thing I dont like seeing these days is guys taking huge shots over and over from guys with credible power and it not even phasing them

Donaire is Dangerous but not unbeatable. Mares can and will adapt his fight-plan to defeat him but it will be a minefield during the earlier rounds. “WAR Mares”.

Phonaire Has Ugly Wife

Phonaire can’t beat Mares. No way. No how. Mares is a warrior. Donaire is a self-proclaimed warrior. Big difference.

The Mad Scientist

A guy who was suppose to be more skilled in Moreno gets beat with ease by a scrappy fighter like Mares and these clowns can’t handle it..who’s jaw did Donaire shattered to make us believe he’d make short work of Abner Mares at 112lbs..the elusive, untouchable Flash who use to drastically overwhelm opponents with athleticism, speed and power no longer exists at superbantam..that’s the reason Nonito is being matched the way he is to bring that elusion back but its not working thus far..IMO Donaire and Mares are pretty much evenly match in the skill department but I give Abner the edge on the battle tested against tougher foes, ring IQ and the ability to make adjustments dept..Donaire’s advantages would pretty much be the same ones, speed, power and athleticism..hopefully this fight can bemade so we can see who is who and what is what..if Holyfield and Tyson would’ve never fought we would automatically assume Mike would have destroyed Evander anyways..fights are only won inside the ring..war Mares! 2012 FOTY..Lol!

building this guy up? what a moronic statement …this morons never fail to show up.

Posted November 14, 2012 8:59 pm

Gonzo the Dragonborn

Mares is a very good fighter no doubt, but he’s dirty as hell and, like Andre ‘Sucks Off God’ Ward, he benefits immensely from having his own refs to preside over his fights and turn an ever so convenient blind eye to his filthy CHEATING tactics. Ward, Hopkins, Huck, Mares, and that bisexual Cuban ponce Lara are as dirty as hell and they need to be taken to task about their flagrant and excessive use of illegal tactics.

The Prince

That’s right boxing media, keep building this guy up. It’ll make his fall in the future all the more satisfying.

A lot of you dudes are thinking jus because Mares pressured Moreno all night that that is how he would fight Doniare,no disrespect but thats a novice way of thinking. if you look at mares past fights with Abdeko and Vic he boxed their ears off. Thats what he would try to do to Doniare. He had to fight Moreno like that because he is so elusive not because that is how he normally fights.

The Mad Scientist – I personally didn’t think Mares would lost to Moreno…I thought I’d be close, but a fight he could certainly win, and he did. But in Donaire, you have a MUCH higher caliber fighter than Moreno….Donaire won’t fold under the pressure and has more than enough fire power (Moreno didn’t) to keep Mares off of him, those widely thrown right hands from Mares won’t land on Donaire, that wild (often dirty) attack will only get him into trouble against a sharp (power) shooter like Donaire, he’s too smart for that, once Mares feels Donaire’s power…he’ll think twice about attacking. Mares is very hittable and Donaire hits harder than ANYONE Mares has faced, Darchinyan was able to dent Mares’ chin, Donaire is going to shatter it.

Alot of things about Mares remind me of Bernard Hopkins

The Mad Scientist

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but Mares vs Donaire is not a foregone conclusion..some of the same cats who picked Abner to lose against Moreno are now picking Mares to lose against Donaire, G’, I wonder why..I find it funny how some these fools break down fights saying this guy or that guy will do this and that to Mares and always neglect what Abner can do to them..war Mares!, can you all say 2012 FOTY.

Posted November 14, 2012 2:06 pm

Titopa

He certainly is. But Donaire will beat him……Mares is tailor made for him, that come forward aggressiveness is what Donaire will feast on. Too fast, too powerful and simply too skilled.

Posted November 14, 2012 1:10 pm

Koolz

No he is not the real deal he is a joke a dirty fighter and I was not convinced of Mares’s Win.

Posted November 14, 2012 1:06 pm

I’ll take Donaire by KO over Mares within 9 rounds if the fight can be made. Nonito has too much firepower with his left that no opponent has yet to evade and now has the same firepower with his right, as Shederenko and Nishioka found out. Both fought to evade Nonito’s left and both got KO’ed with a right. Nonito is faster than Mares and has a proven chin. Nonito has now become a two-fisted nightmare for anybody in his division to reckon with.

Mares puts intelligent pressure and is the most dedicated body puncher I’ve seen in a while :) It is foolish to say that he’s better than Donaire before they met in the ring. Donaire knocks Mares out IMO. Too much experience, power and precision. A strong will won’t get you all the way.

It’s the opponents fault for getting low blows, they should just leave their crotch at home on fight night…

Posted November 14, 2012 4:25 am

te tumbo

the very fact that Mares doesn’t need dirty tactics, is why i believe that it’s not intentional. rough and sloppy, perhaps, but i can’t blame a fighter for poor(?) refereeing. IMO, Mares should contiinue to rely on the ref to regulate his tactics. in fact, that’s all he is doing.

Nah Mookie, its been plain for all to see that if any of Mares opponents even attempted to return his fouls, Oscar’s judicial hell hole would have them quickly disqualified

Posted November 14, 2012 3:28 am

@mookie No, Santa Cruz goes to the body more than any fighter. All you have to do is hit a guy in the balls a couple times and it will affect the outcome of the fight. Cotto did the same crap to Judah.

Posted November 14, 2012 2:20 am

Mookie blaylock

first of all this is boxing, people keep complaining about the low blows, if your a fighter and feel like the other guy is going low on purpose then hit him back low, mares goes to the body MORE then any other active fighter in boxing today, so if some punches stray low its because he’s so commited to the body, eversince his contraversial bout with abecko(1st fight) hes been critisized for being a dirty fighter and it bothered him thats why he gave abecko a rematch, best believe mares knows he’s under a microscope, why would he purposely continue going low risk getting dq’d or bashed and critisized some more???

Posted November 14, 2012 1:26 am

maracho

Nah, Mares’ dirtiness is glaringly incomparable and those denying it are likely GBP media crony. For instance, a controversial win involving ten shots to the crouch against Agbeko and in a bout so poorly officiated and with so many complaints that the IBF ordered an immediate rematch. Then against Moreno, he takes multiple shots at Moreno’s spine and an attempt at the back of the the head. Yet who gets the points deducted, always Mares’ opponents.

Santa Cruz is the real deal. mares is pretty good. uppercut was open all night moreno never threw it, donaire will. donaire knocks mares out.

Posted November 14, 2012 12:53 am

PEEJ

Definitely the real deal but Ive been knowing that after the tournament he won. People are just upset about it. Nobody claimed Pac was a dirty fighter when there is evidence of him hitting folks that where already on the canvas. Everybody said Floyd was dirty when he knocked out Victor Ortiz but let his head but go by. Now that Mares has laid claim to being ahead of Donair from comparing there resumes and then calling Donaire out people will now throw salt to Mares way. But to get hated on means you have made it in some way or fashion. Good for Mares and lets see if Donaire will step to the plate and face some real comp, someone who will actually fight back

Posted November 14, 2012 12:48 am

and because of his competition, he should be ahead of Donaire in the P4P list.

Mares is the real deal…indeed.

Sorry, can’t be a fan of a guy who needs to pound his opponents nuts to win.

Posted November 14, 2012 12:33 am

UJelly?

There really needs to be clarity in this division. Here’s hoping the three super powers in this division sort themselves out… I think it should start with Mares-Rigo coz i just don’t think Donaire is particularly willing to take the risk for the relatively low reward at this time.
But if Mares-Rigo sort themselves out, Donaire would really have no choice but take the winner (or be labeled an absolute ducker and there’d be no arguing against it this time).

Mares is real but Nonito is no f’n joke when directly confronted. he’s Proven that time and time again. he’s not unbeatable and Mares will demonstrate true greatness if he makes the necessary adjustments to defeat Donaire. otherwise, how much is one willing to bet on Mares’ jaw winning the bout? because i think that it will be tagged, flush, and his resilience will determine his chances of winning. not an insurmountable challenge. Mares needs to avoid exchanges early and save his energy for the later or even middle rounds when his roughhousing will have taken the lethal edge off of Donaire’s punches. at which point, he can risk exchanging on a level playing-field and Donaire’s resilience comes into question because Mares can punch and punch and Punch.

Yes, he’s the real deal is just that those who picked against him are having a hard time accepting it..can you all say, wait for it, 2012 FOTY..Lol!

Yes he is definitely the real deal but the double standards pulled by paid of judges ans refs turns people off
