Err, Yeah SRed, that’s exactly what I said. North America still has the money, hence fighters travelling to get paid. Also like I said, North America does not have the fighters anymore and shouldn’t be getting the accolades that they still are, like in this report. You’re not too bright are ya?Posted December 23, 2013 2:25 am
What, Kovalev and Golovkin are boxing in the US on US networks that said if they choose to confine themselves to their countries of origin they would make less $$$ and not be known… Boxers have come to the US for eons in order to get paid and achieve Global acclaim ask Pacquiao..Asia did not treat him too well…Posted December 22, 2013 6:54 pm
Shouldn’t the title of this report be “North American Year End Awards”. What a joke. No mention of Kovalev, GGG, the two most feared and avoided fighters in the world. Then there is Rigo who still seems to be underrated even if he did completely outclass Donaire to win a world title in his 12th or 13th fight. I could go on but it would end up being a ‘war and peace’ epic. North America still has the money in boxing but it definitely does not have the fighters in boxing anymore. There is a large world out there, trying looking a bit further abroad.Posted December 22, 2013 4:37 pm
Трус года – Флойд Мейвезер
Rigo is a very SKILLED Fighter with an extremely HIGH Boxing IQ. But he falls short in BOTH departments vs Floyd. Rigo was dropped by a straight right vs Cordova due to a Boxing IQ error. Same reason he was dropped vs Donaire. But Floyd hasn’t been dropped PERIOD. Cordova is a #0 P4P rated Fighter. NO way a #0 P4P rated Fighter drops Floyd. And I DO believe in MIRACLES.Posted December 22, 2013 11:12 am
Fighter of the year for me is Rigondeaux – he outclassed a proper p4p. And he’s the most skilled fighter today.Posted December 22, 2013 4:22 am
Fighter of the year: Kovalev.
Four fights against the highest ranked guys he could get in the ring with him. WIns a title away from home. Four nice KO’s – against guys who had outperformed the opponents of the other major players in his class who won`t touch him.
Floyd – well look he is p4p#1 for a reason, but what was the wood on Canelo for the longest time? Overrated ginger muppet struggling past nobodies like Matthew Hatton. He has one breakout fight – vs Trout in which he in no way dominated, and then he is this great opponent?
Nah – Lara just showed Trout’s place, and Lara has had trouble with other JMWs. There is a perception that COtto and Canelo are a step above the other JMW’s, and that beating the likes of Trout put you there, but I dont see it that way.Posted December 22, 2013 2:55 am
I wouldn`t give Wilder KO of the year. LIakhovich had been stopped in his last two fights. He`d lost 4 in 6 and the 2 he won were nobodies.
Last fight he won against anyone in the top 100 was 7 years before.
He doesn`t even qualify as a journeyman.
I`d give KO of the year to Gonzeles over Mares.Posted December 22, 2013 2:45 am
Danny Garcia had a memorable year for me.
IMO upset of the year is Maidana over Broner. Very few of us thought he’d win that. I think the most impressive upset was Rigo over Donaire, though IMO that wasn’t actually an upset. Still Rigo was a 3/1 dog and it was a marquee fight at MSG with one of the top PFP guys losing. That’s dramatic. Of course establishing the real upset of the year is just a matter of checking the odds in major fights.Posted December 21, 2013 9:36 pm
Not a very good list in any of the categories. GGG has been busy and scored several KOs, Kovalev and Stevenson have as well, Rigondeaux scored two impressive wins and won as a heavy underdog, the list goes on. Floyd won two fights against 3/1 or bigger underdogs. The other categories are also odd. Wilder with KO of the year? Against a walking corpse who’s been shot for years? Cmon Slater you can do better than this.Posted December 21, 2013 8:59 pm

NO Tark, Lara did NOT win 12-0 off of Paul Williams that simply preposterous and more of your hyperbole trying to make your case for Lara now being the guys who’s nuts you are hugging the tightest…Lara defeated Trout handily but it was HARDLY as dominant as you are trying to sell, it was a LOW action fight with Lara doing a lot of moving and potshotting absent that KD in the latter rounds it would have been a DUD fight..Lara is a terrific talent but as per usual you are going overboard… Tark as for Peterson and Matthysee, how did I fall for the media when Matthysee was favored? if anything I went against the grain the way you did when you predicted Canelo was gonna defeat Floyd Mayweather???? How did the media have Marquez KOing Bradley? I took that view based on Bradley discussing his brain injuries post Provodnikov, glad he proved me wrong!! AGAIN I have NO issue being wrong and I don’t Monday Morning QB like YOU and the other scrubs on this website…You are the SAME nut who wants to change the result of Lewis vs Klits 11 years later based on a video of the fight that “Bears” of all people pulled off youtube….HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Again you are going to far with Lara he is a damn talented fighter, that said he was beating Trout straight off a loss and his first trip to the canvas…Posted December 21, 2013 6:15 pm
Sredmond… You’re an idiot… Lara dominated Williams.. Williams didn’t do a damned thing all night that was effective.. EL dominated him as badly as he dominated Trout—just not by as wide a margin each round.. He’s really coming on and didn’t let Trout land a damned punch he could feel for the first 8 rounds. That’s what domination is.
If “most” think Molina beat Lara they’re nuts too. A lot of crack pots out there as well as horrible judges.. Maybe you’re related to C.J. Ross or Duane Ford because your scoring is about as accurate.
And your pre-fight analysis as well… It sucks to the quasars… You said Peterson will beat Matthysse, Matthysse will KO Danny Garcia, and Marquez will KO Bradley… You fall for all the media hype every time.Posted December 21, 2013 6:01 pm

Great points Rasputin…, But Stevenson WASN’T the lineal LHW champion… Andre Ward was… Ward stopped Chad Dawson after beating the living HELL out of him.
They were both under the LHW limit — which means lineal title is at stake even though the official title didn’t chance hands.Posted December 21, 2013 2:05 pm
Chad Dawson might have been the lineal champion when Adonis Stevenson beat him, but don’t forget Gabriel Campillo should’ve also been the unified WBA/IBF champ when Kovalev blitzed him. Campillo had been the victim of a pair of disgraceful decisions when he fought Shumenov and Cloud. Had it not been for those two outright robberies that went against him in the those fights Campillo would’ve been on a five year long winning streak when he fought Kovalev, and you could even make a strong case for it being six if you include the first Murat fight which I’ve heard was also a terrible decision.
Nathan Cleverly was undefeated when Kovalev trounced him and Sergey deserves extra credit for travelling into hostile territory in the lion’s den to beat him in front of his home crowd. So those wins over Cleverly and Campillo should’ve bagged Kovalev three belts to put in his trophy cabinet and he should really be the unified WBA/IBF and WBO champion now.
Kovalev also blitzed a 21-1 solid contender in Cornelius White in three effortlessly destructive rounds too. White had taken the big punching top-ten rated Dmitry Sukhotsky to school in his previous outing. Sukhotsky’s only loss going into that fight was a highly controversial UD to the then WBO champ Jurgen Brahmer in a fight many felt the referee had robbed him of a scoring a clear stoppage win.
Kovalev then effortlessly sparked out the talented and dangerous yet fragile chinned Ismayl Sillakh in blisteringly brutal fashion in a little less than four minutes to cap off the year.
When Chad Dawson fought Adonis Stevenson he was coming off a demoralizing stoppage loss against Andre Ward. Granted he was obviously very weight drained for that fight but he was still coming off an uncompetitive bad stoppage loss nonetheless.
A little titbit of trivia. Dawson also got manhandled by one of his sparring partners all throughout the Ward camp. The identity of the sparring partner? It was a fighter named Lionell Thompson,. Yes that’s the same Lionell Thompson who Kovalev would subsequently go on to pulverize in a little over six minutes a week or two later.
Tavoris Cloud had suffered consecutive back-to-back losses when Stevenson fought him (I refuse to accept the judges score cards when decisions are that bad.
Darnell Boone had lost three back-to-back when he fought Stevenson too, one of them being a two round stoppage blowout to Kovalev.
Tony Bellew had already been beaten by Kovalev KO victim Cleverly. And let’s not forget Bellew had also been awarded a gift draw against the Malawi born but South-African based Isaac Chilemba only two fights before he fought Stevenson.
All of Stevenson’s opponents with the exception of Bellew were coming off one-sided stoppage defeats or multiple back-to-back loses, but all of Kovalev’s were coming off wins, discounting the judges farcical score cads. Cleverly was unbeaten. White had won five on the trot. Campillo hadn’t lost in nearly five years and Sillakh had won four on the trot, albeit at a lower level. So truth be told Kovalev is the rightful unified WBA/WBO and IBF champion and Cleverly >> Bellew and Campillo >> Cloud.Posted December 21, 2013 1:41 pm

He won every round by a wide margin and scored four (4) knockdowns.
I suppose he doesn’t deserve fighter of the year because he held a lot… Which I agree with… Emmanuel would have been screaming at him to get the stoppage… Jonathan Banks was mellowed out … Somehow I don’t think that’s a great trait for a chief second.Posted December 21, 2013 1:19 pm

Boxtra.., Lara had gotten robbed more than once.. I said it was an even fight but the judges don’t do him any favors.. He won every round vs Paul Williams and got robbed by corrupt judges..
He got tired of getting robbed.. He won every round vs Trout but one by a wide margin… He stepped his game up big time…

Just as TARK overshowers Lara with praise because Lara made an outright DUNCE out of HIM. I had been telling TARK ever since Trout beat Cotto not to put TOO much stock in that WIN. Fighter of the Year: Russian
Kovalev isn’t Fighter of the year Halfbrainedalgo. Floyd IS. Beating 2 Top 10 P4P Fighters including one Unified #1 rated CHAMP is GREATER than defeating 4 #0 P4P rated Fighters including one #4 rated CHAMP. In FACT even beating ONE Top 10 P4P Fighter is GREATER than defeating 4 #0 P4P Fighters. SO Rigo is ALSO ahead of Kovalev. Donaire agrees with ME on that….Kovalev is a TOP 4 Fighter in the Sport but he is not the Fighter of THIS year. Just because he put you on the WRONG end of a Welshman WILTING stoppage doesn’t make him the FOY….You’re overshowering him with praise because he made an outright DUNCE out of YOU….But you need go take you a SKILLS RECOGNITION class. Floyd, Rigo, and Bradley all had better years than Kovalev. IF Kovalev can find a way to SPANK Ward and Stevenson next year then he may be able to take NEXT years award. Everyone becomes “overrated” once they step in the ring and lose to Floyd Mayweather is an OLD story now… The same would be said of Manny Pacquaio if he took an “L” to FMJ… There is not a single boxer that won’t immediate be stripped of his credentials in the wake of a loss by his detractors…Between them Canelo and Guerrero were something like 73-1-1 Whlie having been World Champions. CLEARLY this indicates they have been easy nights for everyone, Floyd CLEARLY waited for them to get old, even though between them they were 20 years younger than Mayweather…. Floyd has NOTHING left to prove, those who respect his body of work will continue to and those who don’t will keep grumbling this is life…Posted December 21, 2013 7:45 am

If Adonis Stevenson don’t win the award, I would rather nomine the running boxing legend Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins for the “Fighter of the Year Award” then Floyd Mayweather Jr based on ring achivments.
Here is why: At incredible age of 48 Bernard Hopkins conqerd the world light heavyweight title by out-boxing an almost 18 year younger, stronger, harder hitter and undefeated champion in Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud – in the procces he not only became 3-time light heavyweight champion and 4 in total, he also broke his own world record as the oldest man to become a recognised boxing world champion from previus 46 to 48 and that is more then impressive.
So even old Bernard Hopkins have made more effort to deserve the Award then “Pretty Boy” Floyd have. Truth is truth.Posted December 20, 2013 9:31 pm

All I say is that this “Awards” are not truly recognised ones. There can only be Adonis Stevenson as the Fighter of the Year 2013 for his impressive 4 fights won this year and he took all 4 top opponents out by knocking them out AND not only becoming world light heavyweight champion 1st time at 35, he also made 2 impressive defences of his titles against 1 recent former world champion in Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud and then Nr1# contender Tony Bellow. I say it again, there can only be Adonis Stevenson this year for the award.
Floyd Mayweather Jr winning? Give me a break here. His 2 fights is not to bring up to the table to name him “Fighter of the Year”. Uselly that Award goes to a fighter who have been dominant in several top fights or made 1 or 2 big upsets in the ring same year and that is something Adonis Stevenson have accomplished in 2013

Honestly, the writer is correct in picking mayweather. He did shut out Alvarez, which to me was the best boxing performance mayweather has had in years. However, I would’ve picked Rigo, as he showed as much boxing acumen in beating a p4p top 5 fighter in donaire. And then showcased brilliant, even comparable defense to mayweather’s in his fight against agbeko.Posted December 20, 2013 8:08 pm

No way Mayweather is Fighter of the Year IMO. He only fought twice and both of his opponents were overrated. Guerrero is a career feather/super-feather & lightweight and a brace of wins over crappy Selcuk Aydin and the always grossly overrated hype job Andre Berto up at 147 doesn’t impress me in the slightest. Both of those guys are average fighters in a poor era, and I’m being really generous and kind when I say they’re average. There’s no way Guerrero should’ve even been in the ring with Mayweather.
Fighting Canelo was certainly an improvement on Guerrero, but once again as per usual with Mayweather it’s a case of things not quite being what they appear to be if you scratch away at the surface a little. Canelo is the very definition of a media creation. He’d consisted on an exclusive diet of ham and eggers and toothless OAPS. Literally.
The only world class prime opponent he fought was Austin Trout and I don’t care what anyone says Trout got robbed blind in that one. There was no way they were going to give the decision to him in that fight and blow all that mula Canelo’s fanbase brings in. Trout brings nothing at all to the pot and his fanbase consists of a few family members and close personal friends. Trout isn’t even that good either. The only world class opponent he’d beaten was a cooked goose Miguel Cotto. Lara well and truly exposed Trout’s pretensions to be anything more than a contender.
Another thing that takes a lot of the shine of Mayweather’s win over Canelo was all the catch weight nonsense. It wasn’t enough of an advantage for Mayweather that he was facing someone is sorely lacking the much needed experience fighting against top flight competition to help prepare them for a fight of that magnitude or that they were also about 5 years away from reaching their prime, Mayweather also wanted to drain him dry on the scales too.
Canelo is already fighting in a division he outgrew 18 months ago and having to drop an additional 2lbs on top of that clearly took an awful lot out of him. Mayweather should’ve just fought him at 154 if he wanted to receive full credit for the win. But instead he choose option 2, make sure your opponents is as weak as possible by demanding a catch weight.Posted December 20, 2013 7:34 pm
