The only way Guerrero would beat Maidana is if he clinched him to death ala Devon Alexander.Posted December 19, 2013 7:55 pm
Tark, I’m not rating Maidana based on one fight. I’ve seen him fight many times. I’ve also seen all the boxers you mentioned fight many times. Well, except Kell Brook. I’ve watched his fights two or three times.Posted December 19, 2013 7:54 pm
Lol Khans already whooped his argie ass, your not getting any better on here I notice lolPosted December 19, 2013 6:13 pm
I didn’t mention Guerrero… Guerrero beats MM in a close brawl — because although Guerrero is just as easy to hit and doesn’t punch as hard… he’s tougher. Nothing MM can throw would bother him.Posted December 19, 2013 3:58 pm
Hidalgo.., You’re overrating Maidana based on one fight… Forget it… He still very hittable and gets hurt in there… All 16 of those guys would beat him except for Khan… Broner… and Malignaggi.Posted December 19, 2013 3:55 pm
Bred, Hows things bro?Posted December 19, 2013 9:01 am
BTW Tark, Maidana might be an underdog against Garcia, but if Robert Garcia could get Maidana to be stronger (endurance-wise) in the late rounds, I think Danny would be in for some serious s***. After all, Judah took it to him for a few rounds and had Danny gasping and swinging for life. Maidana certainly has the ability to do more damage to Garcia than Judah did.Posted December 19, 2013 12:04 am
“Marcos Maidana would be an underdog versus Danny Garcia… Floyd Mayweather… Manny Pacquiao… Tim Bradley… Lucas Matthysse… Shawn Porter… Ruslan Provodnikov… Kell Brook… and Devon Alexander… I believe Rios could beats Maidana…maybe Alvarado beats him too, although they wouldn’t be favored … just about everybody beats him except Paulie Malignaggi, Adrien Broner, and Amir Khan if they fought again.”
I disagree with you Tark, mainly because Maidana has improved so much under Robert Garcia. At this point in time, I think Maidana/Matthysse would be a fairly even matchup. I’d favor Maidana over Alexander in a rematch, even though Alexander beat him by solid UD the first time they fought–all the ref would have to do is not let Alexander have another clinch-fest. Bradley would likely dance away all night long and pull out another narrow points win. Provodnikov knocked some sense into him: “Don’t try to brawl with brawlers and heavy punchers.” I’d favor Maidana over Brook. Rios/Maidana would also be a war, but I think Maidana’s experience and newly honed skills would help him to beat Rios. Brandon would be even easier to hit than Broner was. As for a matchup with Porter, I dunno. I have a hard time looking past Maidana’s big fight experience and his improved boxing skills.
But hey, what about Maidana/Marquez? That bout would certainly clear some air regarding Maidana’s capabilities at this point in his career.Posted December 19, 2013 12:02 am

Broner is very flawed…
His cross-armed defense and shoulder roll didn’t get the job done vs a crude brawler. Since the China-chinned Khan, less than masterful Alexander, and slow Kotelnik all beat Maidana with correct scorecards, and all stayed off the deck — Marcos is basically known as a furious brawler and not a big bomber. He’s a good hitter, certainly not a great hitter.
Marcos Maidana would be an underdog versus Danny Garcia… Floyd Mayweather… Manny Pacquiao… Tim Bradley… Lucas Matthysse… Shawn Porter… Ruslan Provodnikov… Kell Brook… and Devon Alexander… I believe Rios could beats Maidana…maybe Alvarado beats him too, although they wouldn’t be favored … just about everybody beats him except Paulie Malignaggi, Adrien Broner, and Amir Khan if they fought again.

You know what, I watched an interview of Broner way before these promoters got him to start playing the villan and he came across as a really nice kid. I think his folks and close friends should have intervened as that type of image really doesn’t suit the guy at all. He hasn’t got the flair for or the style. He’s the type that couldn’t tell a joke to save himself. I actually feel sorry for him as I feel he’s been kinda hung out to dry. He was never in a million years the next Mayweather, but he is a dam good fighter n world champion. Instead of chasing the quick money his people should have been looking at the big picture. They have a hell of a job on there hands picking the guy up from this now.Posted December 17, 2013 3:37 pm

I saw a very good fight that could have gone any Direction, Maidana did get the better shots and the knockdowns, But Broner was by no means out of this fight til the final bell. I am truly curious as to why Any Coach orTrainer would allow ALEX ARIZA in corner, He is not a Cutman,Trainer Or anything else. He is self proclaimed, S & C person. ARIZA has been in several controversies while working corners. WAKE up Coaches!!! HE does not belong there. If he causes MAIDANA to lose the belt due to using any illegal substance in that corner, this would be so sad for the fighter and that camp. COACHES, TRAINERS, BOXING COMMISSIONS, Remove this kind of corner person from Boxing,, I want to watch a clean matches.Posted December 17, 2013 2:57 pm
another big mouth spook bites the dust.Posted December 17, 2013 2:54 pm
I’ll give Broner credit for taking a tough fight but that’s all. He’s no better than Jeff Lacy. Very similar as a matter of fact. Lacy was the new Tyson. He was unbeatable. Joe C played with him like a cat with a mouse.
“How much heart does Broner have when he walks over to the corner of the ring then gets down and starts rolling about looking for the DQ, then looks up to see if the ref is buying it and rolls around some more? He was on his way to being KO’ed when all of that happened, and he wanted out, and was searching for any escape like a rat. He came back in round 12 ONLY because he landed an illegal punch after the bell at the end of 11 that hurt Maidana.” – Turbo Hamster is correct on all of the above. Nobody should praise Broner’s “guts” when he took a dive in hopes of getting an undeserved DQ. Everyone knows that was a light head nudge, not a head butt. He wasn’t hurt by that, but he was hurt many times by punches.Posted December 17, 2013 2:39 pm
“Nobody should say anything like that without absolute proof … I’ve seen trainers and seconds give fighters various legal stimulants between rounds: things like bee pollen… royal jelly… guarana… goji juice… a mixture of equal parts liquid dark chocolate, honey, and liquefied banana, amino acids. I’ve seen some crazy concoctions mixed up to give a boxer a quick boost.” – TARK’s comments are interesting. However while it’s true it’s best to take these things immediately before or after exercise, if an athlete is cramping they can take a big dose of potassium to negate it. Bottom line there’s any number of things Maidana could’ve taken during the fight. For Vivek to scream illegal substances smacks of nut hugging. He’s an obv Broner fan and has hoped he would become the new Floyd once the real deal retires. Bubble burst.Posted December 17, 2013 2:35 pm
Finally some sensible posters capable of seeing beyond their annoyance with an immature 24 year old and seeing the situation correctly.. Hats off B Red and Lefhook I have watched that bout 4x now and the reality is that Broner was fighting till the END… Maidana won but he sure did not punk him and he was HAPPY when that bell rang in the 12th because he was getting hit and the last 2 rounds were good ones for Broner… CHUMPS don’t fight like that they either QUIT or FOLD and try to survive Broner did neither hes a TRUE fighter and despite the loss that’s to be commended…Posted December 17, 2013 1:59 pm
Bulwayo, Broner had 300 amateur opponents and he just booked a loss… I really don’t care about Golovkins amateur exploits at this point he is a PRO fighter and till he starts waxing some serious World Class boxers he will remain under review.. AGAIN absent a guy being TRULY something extraordinary (Mayweather or Ward) they all lose sooner or later at the World Class and Championship Caliber level… AGAIN Golovkin facing part time mechanics will not tell us the story of who he is….If you want him to stand on his amateur career then why not have him retire?? He had 378 fights I am sure they will put him in the HOF for this!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!Posted December 17, 2013 1:56 pm
B Red,, Your correct bud, Broner showed he has plenty heart that’s a fact. Right at the start of the 12th he really hurt Maidana, he should have jumped right on him. Great fight though, both guys gave it all, and that’s all you can ask of anyone. I cant understand why folk just say well done to both guys no matter how Broner acts before hand, its part of the game and the kid gave us all he had. Real boxing fans don’t do such things they applaud fights like that.Posted December 17, 2013 1:46 pm

Sorry, I’ve only just got back on the site. FREDDIE ROACH was interviewed on his thoughts in BOXING NEWS, published on Thursday December 12 in the UK on who he thought would win out of BRONER and MAIDANA and Freddie told people he would not be surprised if Maidana won, because and I remember he said he had seen with his “own eyes,” Broner get “seriously hurt in sparring before!”
FIGHT, I hope this clears up any questions. Freddie says a lot of things, but when he has nothing to gain he usually tells the truth about stuff and like him or not Freddie is usually on the ball with stuff like this.
Hopefully, someone on here can get their hands on a copy of Boxing News or the transcript to what Freddie said!!!Posted December 17, 2013 12:51 pm
Adrian, you make a point you did NOT like Broner getting so much status absent a track record to your liking… I feel the SAME about Golovkin who’s record is TRAGIC he has NEVER defeated the top fighter in his division something that Broner stepped right up and did handily at 135 before going up another 12 pounds and rolling the dice… Guys have been saying EVERYONE on Earth is afraid of GGG including Andre Ward who has EASILY dispatched BETTER STRONGER fighters than Golovkin who is VERY untested on the World Class level…NO ONE but he and his opponents mother knows who this next boxer he is facing is in Monaco…. Do your feelings about Broners rise, correspond to the padding that is going on with GGG’s resume or are you so smitten with his serial KO’s of fighters on the slide that you are granting him an exemption from scrutiny???Posted December 17, 2013 11:49 am
PSY, Golovkins “Fall From Grace” will be the same as any other OVERHYPED boxers he is gonna get derided and his credentials called out… Right now guys are slating him to be the World BEST MW when that’s not something proved in the ring or reflected in a STRONG resume… Guys are DRUNK off the guy knocking out low level competition in a single weight class which is fine but alas he deserves 0000000 mention alongside the Elites of boxing….Should he step up and book a loss his name will get raked thru the mud as well… That’s just boxing…I understand that Broner was “SWAGGADOCIOUS” and that is offensive to a lot of cornballs but that does not negate the fact he did win titles in 3 weight classes by the time he was 24, he lost GOING for it and not fighting ANOTHER no name boxer in Monaco while trying to sell the notion that the ENTIRE sport is ducking him LOL… Make the deal sweet enough and they will come… If this is the END of Broner, who cares he is a new fighter… BUT that is something that was not accomplished in the ring, I liked the way he fought back in a losing cause that is something you cannot teach a fighter its a gut level quality… Maidana was just as happy as Broner when that final bell rang and that’s just the truth hence the announcers saying “Maybe Maidana should go into a 4 corners offense” during the last round…He won handily but he did NOT steamroll Broner…Posted December 17, 2013 11:45 am
PSY, my LARGER point is that YOU GUYS declared him “the future of the sport” and while I understand Broners boasts making him the object of some serious backlash it does NOT make some of these claims anymore valid ie “His Career is over” or that he did NOT show serious heart staying in that bout when he was in BIG trouble by the second round…I am lending proportion to the arguments FACT is that Golovkin has been LESS tested than Broner yet guys were saying this guy can KO everyone from Mayweather, to Canelo and Ward when he is facing a SLEW of WEAK fighters….Broner stepped up against a heavy handed fighter who has made a lot of guys miserable he could not get by him and he is rightfully embarrassed, that still does not mean he is devoid of talent or capable of rebounding… Moral Stances mean nothing in boxing its about results there are boxers who are GREAT human beings that cannot fight and guys that act obnoxious who will whip your AZZ….Posted December 17, 2013 11:24 am

Face it, Broner got too complacent, delusional and greedy.
He is a great ‘athletic’ talent (the boxing has obvious flaws) but was given a head start by the people in power positions in the sport. He started off boiling down from LWW to SFW and beating on the naturally smaller men. Instead of improving his craft, he complacently compromised it, while developing a style that relied on men being smaller to be truly effective! Further delusion meant he felt (at least for Maidana) that training harder ‘within this style’ was going to be enough.Posted December 17, 2013 6:48 am
Uhhhh ohhhhh someone is sad to see broner lose … Sredmond you can try and twist a you want about broner but the fact is bronner was never an elite or a super fighter status he got , you could tell how limited he was against that English short boxer he fought before malinagi , he wAs getting hit flush by a much shorter fighter but he was lucky that guy couldn’t brake an egg…. So that’s the point here , broner got exposed for what he really is and I don’t give a rats ars what he does outside the ring but it bothers me to see a boxer getting a super status like bronner who didn’t deserve and now I am glad he got exposed !Posted December 17, 2013 6:46 am
I’m not sure how bad whatever Ariza has done is, but again, his handling of the cotton roll in a piece of guaze is just odd. Esp. as Maidana inhales first off, then pushes his hand away afterwards.
Something still isn’t right about this and perhaps, it will come out that Ariza, at worst, was trying to be a little clever with some kind of ‘wake – up’ substance.Posted December 17, 2013 6:43 am
I do question Broners future at 147 and that’s something I discussed with Hidalgo I believe BEFORE the bout, even the Great Pacquiao is NOT the same force at 147 that he was in the lower weights, gone are the stoppages replaced by 12 rounds, lower output and more dicey moments….Broner does not have Mayweather’s ability to control range, he is more stationary and at his best likes to exchange that said he may be better served at 140 than the WW division…Losing this bout in this manner could prove to be his moment of truth or he could become another Berto who fails to improve and then gets walked over again despite his talent… Boxings a cruel sport and losing is harshly punished that’s why the Wards and Mayweathers deserve the EXTRA praise and accolades for not having that off night or getting put to sleep at this point…Posted December 17, 2013 6:25 am
Turbo Hamster, your going tit for tat in defending Maidana butting, his rationale for doing it is neither hear nor there it was blatant… I’m not crucifying him for it and it does not detract from the completeness of his victory and effort I’m just injecting some proportion into what’s being passed off as a mock funeral for Broner….It was a VERY physical fight and both men got overly aggressive which is a Maidana trademark that predates the Broner fight…You don’t see me hurling PED accusations? Yet I have seen many run with anything to undermine the credibility of boxers they are not fond of absent a shred of proof…Maidana fought HARD and so did Adrian Broner that’s why the bout was so entertaining are you REALLY trying to tell us that there is no way Broner can have a good career because of this loss??? And if so is it because he’s no longer undefeated or because he’s just a boxer you don’t like? Again Beoner did not get stopped and making the argument that Maidana cannot punch is simply CRAZY that’s pretty much all he is known for..Arguing that to somehow further demean Broner is brands the peddler of that BS as a fool, absent power Maidana would be in the bush leagues…Posted December 17, 2013 6:18 am
Yeah guys are caught up in their emotions because an arrogant fighter booked a loss, that’s totally robbed them of all proportion.. FACT is that Maidana outfought Bronwr and he was certainly the better man that night… “Rip his heart out” NOT even close boxers who have been gutted don’t keep coming forward and getting off HARD shots in the Championship rounds Maidana “ripped out Victor Ortiz heart” “Leonard ripped out Duran’s heart” “Corrie Sanders, Ross Purrity and Lamon Brewster ripped out Wlads heart” meanwhile Broner just took a presumably humbling loss and ended the night on his feet while landing the last punch of the fight (reviewed the bout 4x) I understand guys feeling like an arrogant athlete “got what’s coming to him” that said his will was not broken inside the ring, the kid fought for his life… Again this OVER the top on Broners points loss underscores just how IMPORTANT NOT losing has become to the modern boxing fan any of you that’s why the sports 2 Top fighters (Mayweather and Ward) have never lost yet many of you same guys will try and downplay “being unbeaten” when these boxers are discussed yet act like it’s a career ender because and overconfident 24 year old bit off more than he can chew… If Broner is not a real fighter, this will break him of not then it’s just his first loss… I give him credit because he took big risk moving up in weight and facing a REAL World Class puncher in Maidana when he was boxing at 130 a year and a half ago…We have fighters like Golovkin who are fighting a VERY low caliber of boxer also being treated to undue praise while boxing in one division… Again this is why I keep young or new fighters in context and don’t rate them with the elites of the game..ie Golovkin can beat Ward or Mayweather or Broner can defeat Floyd… You have guys in a Floyd or Andre that have defeated a steady diet of top competition vs guys like a GGG or Broner who are just getting going… When Golovkin loses his “0” and he eventually will he will also be raked over the coals hence the modern boxer working to avoid a dreaded loss…Posted December 17, 2013 6:05 am
Turbo – you are right about Maidana not being an extraordinary puncher .Posted December 17, 2013 4:03 am
TARK is absolutely correct there. While boxing you are running off of two things – the glucose in your blood, and the glycogenstores in your muscles.
Smashing massive sugar hits in the middle of intense exercise is not beneficial, it just screws with the uptake systems.
You don`t need nutrition untiil you`ve done about 45-60 mins of exercise, and even then that is only in order to go another hour.Posted December 17, 2013 3:28 am
This pundit says.., “Honestly, I don’t know how ANYONE can attempt to say that it wasn’t something illegal … I just can’t believe there was no foul play involved.”
Nobody should say anything like that without absolute proof … I’ve seen trainers and seconds give fighters various legal stimulants between rounds: things like bee pollen… royal jelly… guarana… goji juice… a mixture of equal parts liquid dark chocolate, honey, and liquefied banana, amino acids. I’ve seen some crazy concoctions mixed up to give a boxer a quick boost.
Any energy boosters should be eaten or taken just before the fight. They don’t do you any good taken between rounds. If you’re properly trained you have more than enough energy to go full speed for 12 rounds … If you’re not properly trained nothing taken between rounds will help you. You can’t take some royal jelly after the 11th round and go win a fight.
Many winning marathon runners take nothing but pure water during a race—and run very hard for more than 2 hours without a break. Great training gives you massive reserves beyond what you’ll ever need for 12 rounds.Posted December 17, 2013 3:18 am

Going for broke?
Broner landed 149 of 400 punches vs Maidana.
There wasn`t one round where Broner threw more punches than Maidana.
There is only ONE round where he landed more – and that was only by 2 punches.
He didn`t go fro broke AT ALL. He got beat down for round after round, then hit the guy after the bell and tried to take advantage of his cheating in the next round.Posted December 17, 2013 1:04 am

He was on his way to being KO’ed when all of that happened, and he wanted out, and was searching for any escape like a rat.

That little headtap was a little bit sneaky I`ll grant you, but was all part of trying to make clinching an unpleasant situation for Broner to be in.
Broner hitting after the bell I consider just as bad, and he didn`t get so much as a warning, despite the fact that was the only time Broner hurt him, and Maidana had to be examined by the dr afterwards.
Headbutts don`t belong in boxing full stop, but for me I can see more justification in doing it to try to get a guy off of you so you can actually get on with boxing, than I can in the Ward, Bradley, Hopkins tactic of following a lead punch with their head as a battering ram.Posted December 17, 2013 12:49 am
Broner is FAR from a bum in fact each time I review the bout on DVR I respect his heart even MORE…I’m a HUGE Cotto fan but he took a knee against Margo and he packed it in early against Pacquiao, Wladimir Klitschko was SPINELESS in comparison allowing 3 underlings to make him quit and avoiding anything close to an exchange during the rest of his career, Oscar quit on his stool and Shane was fighting to survive against Floyd after hurting him in round 2… Mannys been flayed 3x, Lennox Lewis stopped 2x Broner did NOT let Maidana finish him and he fought back like a Champion in the final rounds… Pretending he’s a punk inside the ring is NONSENSE he was going for broke against Maidana in the 11th and 12th for that I respect him…He ate shots that stopped 30 other fighter hate him or love him Broner has BALLS…Posted December 17, 2013 12:45 am
Turbo Hamster, you are a supporting the butt because you don’t like Broner which tells me a lot about your boxing ethics… I’m sure you would be just as lenient if Broner had butted Maidana, fact is that it was blatant and intentional no ref is gonna look the other way on that..Posted December 17, 2013 12:38 am

Also given that in the past we only had 8 divisions, the gap between WW->MW->LHW->HW are 13lbs,15lbs,15-25lbs. Broner didn`t make weight for the Escobedo fight.
So the last time he weighed 130lbs for a fight was Feb 2012. That`s 20 months ago not 13.
Also he jumped up to fight 2 guys in Malignaggi and Maidana who were career JWW’s who moved to WW for softer opportunities not because they were big at the weight.Posted December 16, 2013 8:09 pm

I briefly skimmed through some of the comments here. Some of you guys are hilarious. But im not mad at you. I’m gonna say the same thing i said on FB and let you fellas have it from there: First and foremost, the thing about the video was brought to my attention well prior to the FH article. I haven’t read the Fight Hype article but if that’s what Ariza said, i can respect that. Secondly, regarding Broner, i think people need to stop looking at what he didn’t do, and perhaps what Maidana did do. It was a great night of action and Maidana did a helluva job and should be commended. Last but not least, NO, I DON”T THINK BRONER IS A BUM. For those who do, consider this: Just a year ago he took his first pro fight at the lightweight limit (12lbs south of welterweight). Prior to that, his ENTIRE CAREER was fought at super featherweight (17lbs south of welterweight limit). He talked himself up so hard that he got you guys emotional and thinking he could really make it look easy, but the reality is that NONE OF YOU can name 5 fighters in the history of the sport to jump 17lbs in 13mos and make it look easy. And when Pacquiao did people said it was ungodly and PED driven. So don’t lose perspective. He got has a** handed to him and he deserved it. But what he attempted is something few have done, let alone succeeded in. He didn’t have power, and he faced a man who had more than he was able to handle. This is why guys like Garcia remained smart and simply stuck to what worked best without pushing himself so quickly to unnecessary limits. On that note, you fellas do what you do. I’m out. Peace…Posted December 16, 2013 7:43 pm

“Oddly enough, here we are only days later, and after seeing that video, honestly, I don’t know how ANYONE can attempt to say that it wasn’t something illegal.” – Vivek, as a journalist you’re supposed to be more objective than the fanatical Broner fans. But you were one of the only dudes claiming Lucas Matthysse also was up to something by taking Amino 4500. Ironically you also defended Peterson who tested positive for synthetic testosterone. What’s up with your selective “reporting?”Posted December 16, 2013 7:23 pm
Shocker….this guy’s agenda is softening certain fighters losses. I don’t see it. Nor did he look dead like Pryor did then like on crack in seconds.Posted December 16, 2013 6:45 pm
“As soon as I got headbutted, while my opponent was in a double arm-lock, I knew the only chance of winning was to take it to the ground.” So I flopped about on the canvas, hoping that the ref would save me…Posted December 16, 2013 6:36 pm
Vivek jumped to a conclusion based on a piss poor youtube video and suggestions of foul play. He seems to do this based on his bias for whomever the fightern may be. The responsible thing to do now is to issue a written apology to Ariza. Don’t hold your breathPosted December 16, 2013 6:35 pm
SRED – he gave him an itty bitty butt, and not a hard one, but it was something that wouldn`t have happened if the ref had been doing his job and separated them.
He was instantly deducted a point and broner then tried to get him DQ’ed by doing a Dirrell. Then he took as long as he needed to clear his head of the punches. It was a very lucky escape for him.
Cole was a poor referee in that fight.Posted December 16, 2013 6:30 pm

Turbo Hamster, be reasonable I’m not paying attention to people saying Maidana cheated, but pretending he did not butt Broner is just plain dishonest, the ref saw it, announcers and so did the honest public… Sure Broner milked it, but he was indeed butted GET REAL!Posted December 16, 2013 6:16 pm
PSY, you don’t know boxing, that’s a veteran move and Maidana was a FOOL to provide that opening after hurting Broner nicely…Why not clear your head and keep fighting? Should
There is absolutely nothing in that video. Those weren`t pills they were cotton swabs, which if coated in anything would have adrenaline/epinephrine on them to help close cuts.
Seriously if we are going to accuse someone of taking PEDS every time their corner goes near their nose with anything, you may as well cancel all boxing.
The foul play and unpunished ill behaviour in that fight came exclusively from Broner. He constantly pushed – Khan loses 2 points in Washington for that, Broner loses nothing despite doing it even more.
Maidana also didn`t headbut him, he pushed his head up to try to stop Broner clinching both his arms, and he only did this because the ref wouldn`t step in to break them while Broner was recovering from the KD.
Broners rolling around playacting after that, looking for the DQ as a way out was embarassing. As was him clearly pounding Maidana after the bell in round 11, to hurt him for the ONLY time in the fight.
Vivek’s agenda is utterly clear, and it is laughable that he ever tries to hide it.Posted December 16, 2013 6:12 pm
Doormat, we joust and joust some more I’m enjoying watching these emotional attacks on Broner when fighters like PAC and Klits have been leveled numerous times… It’s always important to point out inconsistencies in the arguments of your sort…Broner is no more out to pasture than Manny or Wlad and those boys were flattened… Time will show us who AB really is!Posted December 16, 2013 6:11 pm

At the end of the day guys being oversold based on the amateurs have not been subjected to the consistent risk of fighting 10 and 12 round contests absent head gear etc… Broner did what 99.9% of boxers are gonna do sooner or later HE LOST… The Mayweather and Wards consistently dominating World Class fighters without a blemish are FEW and FAR between hence the rarified air they occupy in the sport of boxing..Broner may go on to have an amazing career or he might bust right here..That said Broner is not done and he STILL showed a TON of heart as opposed to “QUITTING” like a Klitschko or Ortiz have done..Posted December 16, 2013 6:07 pm

I cannot be sold tinted contrary based on an amateur pedigree..Posted December 16, 2013 5:59 pm

Haimat and Sredmond, you both must have a crystal ball to see that Lomanchenko beat Salido when they haven’t fought yetPosted December 16, 2013 4:58 pm
Salido, is NOT an ELITE fighter and he is not close to being mentioned in those terms… By your reckoning there are about 100 Elite fighters in boxing sporting those credentials ie double digit losses and a hit or miss record with the best they fight… He is a World Class fighter but hardly elite… I don’t consider Carl Froch Elite and he has a VASTLY superior record to a Salido… Why is that? Because Carl consistently struggles with his better opponents Kessler, Ward (of course) Dirrell, Jermain Taylor who was terrible at 168 now a guy like Groves.. Elite fighters often look UNBEATABLE that’s not something that Salido brings to the ring its constant dog fights…Its natural that you will find me “annoying” students are often aggravated by their “Teachers” Salido “Elite” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!Posted December 16, 2013 4:58 pm

What are you talking about “Broner had no hope” that’s crazy he was tagging Maidana plenty when he let his hands go and the fact that a finisher like Maidana who has stopped over 30 professional fighters could not get a guy who started at 130 outta there is a feather in Broners cap…Maidana won CLEARLY but he did not destroy Broner again you are going WAYYYY over the top because you are NOT a guy who likes Broner… AB showed SERIOUS powers of recuperation and that’s why Maidana had to admit that Bron3er hurt him in the 11th round… You are not gonna get a good 360 degree of a fight by only focusing on the WINNING moments of the guy you favor, its challenging to vacate biases but Adrian Broner showed MORE heart that Ortiz and others who have yielded under Maidanas power…As for Tapia he was getting hit with EVERYTHING and Smoger and his team let that kid take a NASTY beating that last round Broner had a HARD night and he and his team could have packed it in (we know you would have) yet Stafford was honest with his boxer and said “You need a KO” and to his credit Broner tried…. Even Malignaggi who despises Broner gave both he and Maidana credit for fighting thru the pain in the final rounds…Posted December 16, 2013 4:49 pm

Haimat, ANYONE who knows boxing will tell you that Orlando Salido is NOT an Elite fighter or close to it… He is a lower end World Class fighter who is on his way out… Elite fighters are the Donaires, Pacquiaos, Mayweathers, Marquez’s, Wlads and Wards…. They don’t sport double digit losses get real manPosted December 16, 2013 4:44 pm
Haimat, I don’t mind you arguing just to argue, in 6 rounds or whatever it was Kirkland hit Tapia over 300 times or something ridiculous like that.. The Dr had been in Tapias corner for the preceding 2 rounds and he was COMPLETELY out on his feet and absorbed that last INSANE blow from Kirkland… Announcers were wondering how he would move forward after that beating from a BIG puncher… “Gassing” is a clownish response to the BEATING Tapia received that was a BRUTAL fight fact is that Broner was fighting back in the 11th and 12th because Maidana had not subdued him… Like Anne Wolfe told Kirkland “You took his heart now you gotta take his balls” and he DID…Broner did not take that kind of beating that makes you wonder if a boxer can be the same, you are going over the top because Broner is not your type of individual which is MORE personal than factual… I could care less if he throws puppies from a high rise he STILL fought like he wanted it when I have seen BIGGER name fighters than him put their guns away and try to survive…Posted December 16, 2013 4:42 pm
Salido was beat by Garcia but he ain’t no push over. He’s been an elite fighter for a long time. 8 of his losses came between the age of 15 and 21. He’s a beast. The first one to beat Juanma Lopez.
If you know anything about boxing you give Salido his props. Multiple World Champ, seasoned pro.
Lomachenko is unique in the sport of boxing. 2nd pro fight…Posted December 16, 2013 4:40 pm
SREDMOND, first of all, Glen Tapia did not receive 1000 times more punishment than Broner. Tapia gassed out and quit in the 6th round. He beat Kirkland for the first couple of rounds. I agree that Magomed Abdulsamov took the worst beating of 2013.
His power was not enough to keep Maidana off him and he stayed in there with no hope. The dude defense is lean back. He can’t move his feet. Maidana is a gate keeper. He ain’t no world class fighter. But he made easy work of Broner. That should tell you something.Posted December 16, 2013 4:35 pm

See the point is Broner, paulie etc, thats their business fighters dumb ass, they can talk trash about each, they are supposed too. How many losses does Salido have? many are early career I know that’s the natural pivot but facts are facts what 11 or 12? Mikey Garcia recently beat the HELL out of him had him down QUICK… Sorry you gotta show me more than Salido before I start sacking some new fighter too hard… Rigo won my respect because he schooled an elite fighter like Donaire… AGAIN you are working off your feelings NOT facts a guy with a couple of fights is simply HIGHLY touted in my book…Posted December 16, 2013 4:03 pm
Haimat, you must NOT watch much boxing and showing heart is PART of being a boxer… Glen Tapia took 1000 times more punishment as did now retired an brain damaged Magomed Abdulsamov… Do you really expect Broner to what “QUIT” like Victor Ortiz or Vitali Klitschko?? the kid was in deep water and tried to fight his way outta there to NO avail in the end… Its certainly better than ending up on your face with your wife crying like Manny ended up doing to Jinkee Pacquiao…. As For Broners future I really have NO clue, perhaps he is broken mentally perhaps he steps his game up with your attitude we would have never seen the careers of Pacquiao, Wlad, Martinez, Barrera, Hearns and others continue.. Broner lost on his FEET and he was tagging Maidana nice in those Championship rounds… He gave us a GREAT bout where he was bested and beat up, he is 24 and maybe this is his wakeup call or perhaps he goes under… But your proclamations about his future don’t stand up well when we see the list of fighters who have been clobbered and gone on to accomplish a lot in the sport of boxing… Excluding Mayweather and Ward all the other Elite boxers have LOST….Posted December 16, 2013 3:58 pm
SREDMOND, Lomachenko beats Salido in his 2nd pro fight. That’s right. His second pro fight. Broner gets beaten up like a school boy by his teacher by a mediocre fighter like Maidana.
Worlds apart!Posted December 16, 2013 3:49 pm

Haimat, you sound WAYYYYYY out of proportion….Broner lost big deal? Anytime I hear guys waxing on about amateur careers too much its because the fighter they are touting has a SCANT professional resume… Head Gear and 3 round fights cease to impress once you are in the BIG leagues… Broner is the victim of the HYPE he created and the tendency of boxing fans to LEAP to anoint the next guy looking good… BUT the FACT is that Broner was a World Champ in 3 weight classes by 24 years old and he moved up 3 weight divisions in 19 months which is daring and something I can only quickly recall Pacquiao doing… Wladimir Klitschko was an fighter with 40 bouts when he was knocked out 2x and put down 8 times in a 7 fight span, he was stopped 2x in 5 fights BOTH bouts with MUCH less perceived risk than Broner facing Maidana who was a KNOWN World Class puncher in a higher weight class… Klitschko did NOT show ANY of the heart Broner showed by getting off the deck and fighting back to arguably win the 11th and 12th rounds…Maybe this is the END of Broner, OR maybe it is the beginning only time will tell we have seen PLENTY of GREAT fighters actually get stopped only to comeback and make things happen, Lennox Lewis, Pacquiao, Martinez… The hatred of Broner is a bit irrational he did not murder a bunch of school, kids, he is just obnoxious, immature and boastful basically he is 24 who cares??? If I wanna see well behaved kids I will go to church in order to see that phoniness…Posted December 16, 2013 3:41 pm
What fighter has Mayweather faced in recent history coming off of a loss? That’s Manny Pacquiao who fought Rios coming off a loss where he absorbed a ton of punishment… In faireness to Manny he was coming off a BAD loss and had the right to adjust his marbles against a fighter with known deficits and not riding high… Lets look at the guys that Mayweather has fought as of late, Canelo coming off his BIGGEST victory, Guerrero coming off his BIGGEST win at WW defeating Berto in an FOTY candidate, Cotto coming off a revenge match against Margarito which basically left him with a 37-2 record with one unavenged loss… Ortiz coming off his biggest win to capture the WW Championship while defeating Berto…. Shane Mosley coming off his BIGGEST win in years stopping the previously NEVER stopped Tony Margarito via BIG TKO… AGAIN these are simply the facts not anything I invented of course GOONS on the message board will spin and hedge… This guy “What” says that Mayweather will face Broner off a loss, first of all that’s beyond doubtful and second of all you guys were STILL begging for the Pacquiao fight when Manny is one bout removed from getting splatted by Marquez, and who is Manny looking to fight? 40 year old Marquez COMING off a loss I understand the revenge angle but facts are facts….Again I know this argument will have TOO much merit for some and FACTS on ESB are irritating and run counter to the practice of vacating reality but it is what it is…. Guys are sucking off Lara who fought REALLY well and is amazing but who did he beat? Trout coming off a loss! Who did Trout beat to get in position to face Mayweather? Cotto coming off a loss to Floyd Mayweather… AGAIN Mayweather making it look so easy has MANY of you rankled and wondering why your favorite boxers cannot emulate his skills… Ask Broner, ask Malignaggi who said it best “There is ONLY ONE Floyd Mayweather Jr”Posted December 16, 2013 3:31 pm

Frankie Gavin is a better fighter than bum Broner. He’s proven himself as a top amateur by winning the world championships. Much better footwork. Broner is a hype job and should become a gate keeper sooner than later. No talent, no class.
Who fights 300 plus amateur fights and never fights out of his country. The kid is a complete fraud. Lomachenko had the same amount of fights as an amateur and won 2 Olympic Games and 3 World Championships. Broner is pure BS!Posted December 16, 2013 3:28 pm
The intellect of the boxing fan is often not the highest caliber so some conjecture and conspiracies are to be expected…. Vivek Wallace does not really try to exercise sound journalistic discretion by reserving judgment in the Maidana case…..FACT is that as of now no one has determined that Maidana used ANYTHING other than his fists to defeat Adrian Broner and the notion that an on the spot “performance enhancer” accounted for Broners inability to avoid those overhand rights and punches coming from North Dakota is WEAK…If a fighter is shown to have actually cheated using something that enhances muscle growth, tissue repair or blood volume then he is subject to the appropriate sanctions.. That said the litmus test is the ACTUAL test results as obtained by the agreed upon testing party, be it VADA, USADA or the standard boxing tests… Visual exams and WILD accusations by posters have NO weight in the REAL world beyond smear tactics… I have watched MANY act like children and buffoons when their favorite fighter loses a bout or one they don’t like wins… We have seen Pacquiao accused of being juiced to the GILLS but the minute he looks bad (Marquez 3) or gets clobbered (Marquez 4) the accusations disappear… We hear the Hecdogs of the world accusing Marquez when Manny walked RIGHT into a killer shot only to see JMM lose his next contest because Bradley boxed intelligently… Rios uses some banned over the counter nonsense from GNC and he STILL loses his bout 12-0 just like Vargas got KOed by Oscar De La Hoya while ACTUALLY using a REAL PED…. The MOST pure reality is what is represented in the ring when 2 boxers square off, we KNEW Maidana was gonna be the SAME Maidana, STRONG, AGGRESSIVE and POWERFUL what we did not know is if Broner would be able to avoid the big shots… Well we got our answer, he could NOT and that started in round one and it was solidified in round 2 when he was on rubber legs and bleeding… Maidana could have taken EVERY drug known to man and he would not have defeated a Floyd Mayweather with those telegraphed right hands, Broner did NOT get the job done and consequently he will have to learn and grow from his defeat or perish the way some boxers do once they learn they are not invincible…Posted December 16, 2013 3:20 pm

By the way, for anyone that’s interested I think the video clip in Joseph Herrons article “The Pugilist’s Corner Weekend Wrap” shows a little more clearly what Ariza is doing. For instance the first time he’s supposedly sticking gauze under Maidana’s nose or supposedly giving him a pill, you can see he is wiping Maidana’s left brow with the gauze. Then you can see him wipe the outside of Maidana’s nose. Then you can see him put the gauze under his nose—very, very briefly. He never puts anything in Maidana’s mouth.Posted December 16, 2013 2:18 pm
Broners fight was a disaster for him. He did everything wrong, and never was able to make any adjustments, he didn’t even try. This kid has lost from the moment he was hit and discombobulated. What’s most disappointing to me was that he has skills, reflexes and a good athlete, but he was like a deer in headlights. Sure he tried to tough it out and showed heart, but he fell apart. He lost focus throughout the fight. What was he doing talking to someone in the audience while he should have been listening to instructions? Why did he continually lean back from those over hand rights and left hooks. He has had a lot of amateur and professional experience, and he looked like a little kid looking for someone to help him. Very surprising and disappointing for a guy that ran his mouth so much and acted like he ruled the world. He was more than confident, and confident people don’t react like he did. he wouldn’t throw punches because he was shell shocked. Maidana’s power rattled him to no end. He’s probably still leaning back from anyone that comes near him. This kid sadly disappointed me. I thought what the fans did to him on the way out was classless. They should have left him alone after such a beating, and he tried until the end. He deserved boos and other commentary, but to get physical by throwing stuff at him was sad. I’m not sure if he will recover. His right hand is worthless, his jab didn’t show up much. He throws arm punches and his defense didn’t show up either. Who knows, maybe he can come back and correct his mistakes, but I think his confidence is shattered and every time he fights a strong fighter, he’s going to be in trouble. Adrien Broner has a lot to prove. I’m not sure he can. Maybe this was just one bad fight. I’m curious to see if he will humble himself now? If he doesn’t, he’s already in trouble.Posted December 16, 2013 2:15 pm
Broner got his a$$ kicked all around the Alamo Dome fair and square by Marcos Maidana but some people just can’t handle the truth. So they are looking for an out.
I don’t care if Ariza stuffed a cotton swab soaked in Smirnoff up Maidana’s butt, it was Maidana’s skill, power, and determination that beat Broner, not some fantasy drug.
Get used to reality.Posted December 16, 2013 2:11 pm
“Broner acts like a dumb ass i agree, but the way he acts does not mean us as fan get to throw trash and our drinks on him.”
Salty, Broner was the one who dry-humped Maidana first. Remember? It’s not about his color, it’s about his personality and offensive behavior. It’s about his disrespect for other boxers and the sport of boxing himself.
A number of the regular posters on here who have made derogatory comments about Broner also made derogatory comments about Paulie Malignaggi. Guess what? He’s WHITE!

Killing Moon The Soothsayer
PLZ…All these excuses are killing me.LMAO..Broner was a big LW and him and Maidana looks quite the same height and weight even frame-wise….But by all means let Broner go back to boxing the 5’4s of this world..Because its clear for all of us ..That everything else would just be unfair to the kid..If you go up in weight and your one punch-power doesn’t have the same effect guess what?…You find another way like throwing more than one punch at a time…But clearly people are right…These welters are just tooo big ..They don’t go to the ropes if you touch em, they don’t get exausted if you lean on them and they don’t go down if you punch them…Clearly they’re cheating…Posted December 16, 2013 2:07 pm

I don’t think Broner was exposed, I think he is fighting out of his league. DLH needs to put him back at 135 where he belongs. Very few fighters can jump two classes (basically 3 because he only fought once at 135) and be successful. He’s a jerk-off, we all know that, but jumping from 130 to 147 in such a short time is crazy. MP pulled it off, but MP is nothing short of spectacular, he also fought an outclassed David Diaz and a dehydrated, old DLH (not MP’s fault). Drop Broner back to LW, give him some more fights, and allow the kid to grow naturally before he gets ruined. DLH will put his grand mother at 147 if he thinks she has a chance of beating FM. The man is blinded by rage.Posted December 16, 2013 1:46 pm
Tomato Can, you are correct, Broner really needs to drop down in weight. If he is just gonna stand in front of you, these welters hit to hard for that.Posted December 16, 2013 1:44 pm
What the fans did was terrible. Broner did fight till the end though and that has to be respected. I like Broner up until the Paulie post fight. Even leading up to the fight. I didn’t like the way that chick was brought into it. But he showed courage and heart which is hard to get in a lot of fighters. He still needs t prove that he has bee humbled by that whoopin administered by Maidana. But he definitely got what he had coming to him.Posted December 16, 2013 1:38 pm
I wouldn’t say Broner got exposed, he faced a tuff fighter in Maidana who came to win in a division that Broner probably doesn’t belong at in the first place. I congratulate Maidana, and Garcia. That was a good win. Hopefully Maidana will get some good fights and paydays this coming year.. As for Broner, he may need to think about dropping down in weight and taking a couple easy fights, and reestablish himself. I wish him luck. Who knows he might drop his antic';s down a notch or two as well.. lolPosted December 16, 2013 1:36 pm
Imagine what Matthysse or Provodnikov would have done to cry-baby Broner. I’d love to see Provodnikov let Broner go the full distance just to punish him for 36 min. Broner should retire. He’s in for brain damage if he fights guys his own size again.Posted December 16, 2013 1:34 pm

Broner was exposed. I’ve said it a long time. His footwork is basic, not much better than the average novice. He gets hit with everything you throw at him. Maidana beat him up badly and I wonder if he took any permanent damage.
This writer is the worst on the site. What a joke!Posted December 16, 2013 1:24 pm
toosalty – Please. You ridiculous, ambulance chasing apologist.
Malinaggi used to act like Broner and everyone thought he was scum too. It is clearly not a race issue, it is really very simple: you act like a cretin, and people will treat you like one.Posted December 16, 2013 1:23 pm
J’Leon Love tested positive and was suspended for using a banned diuretic. Shameful! The Money team on PEDs.Posted December 16, 2013 1:21 pm
I think Broner was totally exposed in this fight. He lost by several rounds, not like he was winning the fight and got caught. He was a 5 to 1 favorite to win. Maidana is good, but pretty crude.
I saw nothing out of line as far as cheating. Broner was getting away with too much pushing, but the ref did nothing to stop him, so he kept doing it. The intentional headbutt was dealt with immediately and a point was taken. Maidana did it because Broner was holding his arms, but the butt was illegal and deal with. The butt humping was just weird.Posted December 16, 2013 1:05 pm
Broner fought all the way to the end, and I give him props for that. At the same time, he really looked like he wanted to be somewhere else. Broner should not be fighting at WW. DLH and his team have pushed him through the divisions too fast. He needs to drop back to LW and fight where he is better suited. He is not ready for these bigger guys. He struggled all night with PM and lost the Maidana. He is not a WW and they need to get him out of there. Props to Maidana. He took it to Broner and beat him solidly. A much deserved win.Posted December 16, 2013 1:00 pm
FREDDIE ROACH made a comment in Boxing News days before the fight when asked who would win between BRONER and MAIDANA, that he has seen BRONER, “hurt, seriously hurt, during sparring….”
I read those comments with interest and they now seem very prophetic after Broner got a case of the beatdowns, Saturday night!Posted December 16, 2013 12:58 pm
I JUST READ A FEW OF THE posts below.
Anything dubious can be removed before they leave for the ring and then checked and punishments given out post-fight if they are found to be illegal substances or implements.
There are or easily can be a camera and microphone trained on both corners for the entire 36 minutes of a bout, which can pick up or review exactly what occurs during a bout and can then be fed to the relevant commissions if anything out of the ordinary occurs!
The real deterrent will be to fine, suspend and even ban for life any corner member and or boxer found to be involved in any illegal activities during the breaks.
There is a theory that the easiest time to cheat is RIGHT IN FRONT of the audience’s own eyes as perhaps we are too dumb to acknowledge what we are seeing or to accept that anyone would be prepared to cheat in front of the entire watching world!
I didn’t see anything dodgy this weekend, accept for that awful referee COLE and BRONER faking the effects of the headbutt.
Why didn’t COLE deduct a point from Broner for cheating?Posted December 16, 2013 12:55 pm
Vivek is so downcast that he is willing to believe anything and just like the Broner people are grasping at straws magically changing gauzes into napkins full of pills and and hands that shove pills into Maidana’s mouth. It’s all Disneyland funk which they are trying to sell as reality. Any lawyer who takes on their case is a completely certified idiot. Maidana won because he was the stronger, better, more comitted puncher/boxer. People forget that from day one, Maidana has been dazing boxers — they have all felt his power. Only different now is that he has learned better defense and better movements. Those kind of skills he displayed and Broner fans do not want to credit Maidana. That’s where the real problem lies therein.Posted December 16, 2013 12:42 pm
THIS IS WHAT I SAW…. I saw a seriously deluded corner who allowed themselves to be brow beaten by a seriously disturbed young man, who thought he was a cut above everybody else – including his own corner.
A corner MUST have at least one individual who can SCORE a fight!!!! This is vital as they must be dispassionate and able to keep tally on who is winning the rounds. If a corner can have someone who can honestly score a round, they can then relay this to the chief second, who can then relay this FACT to the boxer.
No corner should be subservient to the boxer…. The boxer in the midst of battle is the worst person to decide who is winning – heck, sometimes they don’t even know what round they are in!!!!
A corner should be able to tell the truth to their fighter.
But, by far, a corner must be able to impart the truth to their fighter and to themselves.
All of the above was lacking in the ADRIEN BRONER corner and to be completely honest, the real PROBLEM was with THE PROBLEM Broner both bullying and refusing to listen to his corner.
Only a bunch of complete idiots would have thought Broner was ahead after 5 rounds and a bunch of morons if they thought he was anywhere close after 10 rounds.
From his internet posts, the sad truth is that BRONER is not prepared to face the reality of his poor performance, being dominated by EL CHINO and is demanding an immediate rematch in which he will surely lose as he believes he does not need to change anything in his preparations or ring performance or running his mouth in order to win!
The first lesson should be one of humility and to admit to himself his whole raft of faults he needs to address.
If AB will not admit these issues he must address I or one will not be surprised if EL CHINO stops him next time out, with a more competent referee to stop AB from cheating round after round!Posted December 16, 2013 12:41 pm
Regardless of what he does outside the ring Broner lost with pride in the ring. He fought until the end and congratulated Maidana after the match that’s what good fighters are supposed to do.Posted December 16, 2013 12:32 pm

I watched the video and really didn’t see what everybody else saw. Looked to me like Maidana was just a better fighter that night plain and simple. Though if he someone how does fail a drug test, well then Arizas whole career needs to be questioned. Now I read somewhere that he was in the corner of Vargas as some point. Not sure if it was when he was caught with steroids in his system or now but it does raise questions. Especially after Rios testing positive.Posted December 16, 2013 12:24 pm
Vivek … Gonzo has got you totally worked outPosted December 16, 2013 12:23 pm
Gonzo the Dragonborn
Regarding Vivek’s views on drug cheats and cheating in the sport:
Remember when you said this Vivek?
”As a huge fan of the sport and an even bigger fan of the man, I must say, it was absolutely humbling to see what we witnessed in what will undoubtedly be his final fight of his career.
Had Jones jr. walked away after the Ruiz heavyweight clash, I think we’d be talking about him as the greatest fighter to ever lace up a pair, bare none, based on superlative talent.”
Jones is a PROVEN steroid cheat whereas Manny has never failed a test. Conveniently enough you waged a protracted vendetta against a fighter who has never failed a test and mysteriously handed out a free pass to one who did. A bit like how you handed out a free pass to your boy Andre Ward for declining additional testing four times.
Vivek.. You dug your own grave, with your own spade, from the back of your truck, and then handed me your own rope to hang you with. lolPosted December 16, 2013 12:06 pm

And he lost the right to earn any semblance of our respect from us when he tried to get Maidana disqualified after pulling a Hopkins/Dirrell and when he bolted from the ring in floods of tears like a scolded school girl after the decision had been announced. He fought an incredibly dirty fight yet in true ”ghetto tough” Hopkins style he was the first to cry and complain whenever Maidana gave him a little taste of his own medicine. Or to be more precise, when he was pretending he’d received a spoonful of his own medicine.
If you’re looking for someone to hang some blame on, then blame that ugly little horse-toothed rapist Floyd who Broner tried so hard to mimic.Posted December 16, 2013 11:48 am
simple question. is ariza a dirty stinking drugs cheat or not.Posted December 16, 2013 11:45 am
Gonzo the Dragonborn
And regarding you bollock brained imbeciles who think Broner is deserving of sympathy and respect for ”showing heart”, of course someone who has talked as much crap as he has and has being acting like such a monumental jackass for years is going to hang in there and try to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. It’s called trying to save face and stave of the impending utter humiliation and embarrassment he’d brought upon himself.Posted December 16, 2013 11:44 am
Strange, I watched the video, once, and didn’t see anything fishy going on. But even if there was something up, there was no need for anything like that, Maidana was winning the fight handely… That being said, I wouldn;t put anything past Ariza, but the way I see it now, is Maidana won that fight hands down, and deserves credit for doing so.Posted December 16, 2013 11:33 am
Floyd a cherry picker and Broner that was so embarrassing I would never fight again. The guy made him out to be this so called great was a major embarrassing fraud.Posted December 16, 2013 11:28 am

You ”want to believe that Maidana’s effort was totally pure”? No you don’t lol. I think what you meant to say there was that you desperately want and want us to believe that Maidana is a cheat and that Azira and his fighters, and in particular his former charge and Floyd’s arch nemesis Manny, are all drug cheats too. You not so subtlety tried to kill two birds with one stone there in the vain hope that we’re all too stupid to realize you were lurking in the shadows throwing stones.Posted December 16, 2013 11:27 am

Killing Moon The Soothsayer – I respect your opinion, and I said in a past comment that it might not be anything, but it SHOULD be investigated. I stand by that statement. And just because boxing still uses trainers that got caught cheating the the past, doesn’t make it right. Ariza’s reputations is why that video, which could be innocent, is having many people asking questions. Either way, question will likely lead to a rematch in 2014.Posted December 16, 2013 10:30 am

The Prince …Are you a dumb guy too? …I’ll be the first one to condemn Maidana if he fails a test or is caught in anything shady involving doping….Sadly alot of guys still hire people who has been caught cheating…But until otherwise proven guilty guys like Ward,Mayweather Maidana,Pacman etc are innocent and should be treated as such no matter who they hire… As far as I can see there is absolutely nothing shady going on in that Youtube clip….But ofcourse you’re welcome to point out to me if you can see otherwise…Posted December 16, 2013 10:25 am
Hidalgo – That’s not my job, that’s the commissions job. But if you’re saying: “Even if something happened, it’s too late for it to be proven”, then perhaps you’re right. But the video has been taken and it’s all over the net, including many articles, forum threats, etc about the topic. Notice it’s the main the boxing fans are talking about now. Ariza would do himself a favor and comply.Posted December 16, 2013 10:16 am
Public opinion is that broner got his ars kicked hahahaha …Posted December 16, 2013 10:15 am
Ariza has himself to blame; he’s been caught in the past and shouldn’t even be a trainer. Let him chuckle after the investigation, if it happens. And even if the boxing commission swepts it under the rug, the streets are talking and public opinion is more powerful.Posted December 16, 2013 10:12 am
The prince – Maidana fans? Hahahaha how about boxing enthusiasts that like to see hype jobs being exposed …lol
So you said below that for you broner is undefited lol but when it comes to fans who says vitaly won the scorecard against Lewis and he really didn’t lose against him you say ” check the record books” so I got news for you , check the record books :)Posted December 16, 2013 10:10 am
The Prince, you better run down to the Alamo Dome right now and start searching all the trash cans for that gauze. If you’re lucky you might find some pills lying on the floor or on the canvas in Maidan’s corner. Frisk Ariza while you’re at it, and don’t forget to thoroughly search the room which Maidana used before and after the fight.Posted December 16, 2013 10:10 am
Nevermind, Hec Dog, I found the article on thesweetscience.com website. Here’s an excerpt from what Ariza said:
“Ariza right off the bat chuckled. The “napkins,” he explained, were pieces of gauze. “Maidana wanted to blow his nose,” Ariza explained. So, that’s what he did, he stated. And did he put anything in Maidanas’ mouth? “No, of course not,” he said. “People like to make drama. It was nothing. We shouldn’t take away from the fighters’ performance. He did all the work. We didn’t do anything illegal.”
Regardless, good luck to anyone who tries to prove something shady was going on in that corner.Posted December 16, 2013 10:08 am
Thank you Vivek for at least addressing the issue and not acting like nothing didn’t happen. Hey, Maidana fans, what are you afraid of? If nothing happened, then let Ariza and company prove it by agreeing to an investigation.Posted December 16, 2013 10:03 am
PE- he he. The Hos he’s hanging out with do a better job faking it than that acting job after the head butt.Posted December 16, 2013 10:01 am
Vivek: “My question with any power puncher who gets everyone across from him out so fast is always “how would this guys handle someone across from him who could make him miss and land with equal or greater heat than he has”?”
I’m not sure that question is greatly meaningful; I get the point it’s trying to raise but we wouldn’t ask Mayweather “How would you handle a guy across from you who is a better technician than you?”
Marquez is a perfect example from an elite fighter. Put him in with Pacquiao and Pac has nightmares. Put him in with better technicians like Mayweather, Bradley or John, and Marquez is nullified. Nobody is downplaying Marquez’ skills.
So for a puncher, it’s the same. Their goal is just to be the best puncher out there and to force non-punchers into their game plan. If another puncher comes along that is better, they can try to adjust, but largely they won’t succeed (i.e. Joe Frasier was never, ever, ever going to be able to beat George Foreman no matter how much he adjusted… nobody questions Frasier’s greatness).
Vivek: “Absolutely! Anyone who has ever followed my work closely knows that I don’t do the favortism thing, or the “kiss up” thing. Never have, never will.”
One more thing: Mike Stafford, Broner’s trainer thinks the video shows Ariza putting the gauze up to Maidana’s nose to inhale some substance that Ariza supposedly put in it. But not PILLS! How do you explain that?Posted December 16, 2013 9:54 am
Beyond that, you should be very careful about what you write and say. Defamation and libel will get in you some deep hot water.Posted December 16, 2013 9:49 am
“I just can’t believe there was no foul play involved.”
Vivek, just when I try to give you the benefit of the doubt as being a fair reporter, journalist, and yes even boxing analyst, you stoop to new lows by joining this fool who accuses Ariza of giving Maidana pills before the start of the 12th round.
Where in that video do you, or this fool who’s question you answered–who says he saw Ariza giving Maidana a pill–see Ariza giving Maidana a pill or doing anything illegal? You are making a mighty damaging assumption here.
Those are COTTON SWABS in Ariza’s right hand, not pills. He NEVER puts anything in Maidana’s mouth, Maidana is only drinking water as is what a fighter usually does between rounds, and he’s taking deep breaths because he’s exhausted. Robert is urging him on: “C’mon man, it’s the last round!….”
Clearly Wallace, you and others, including Mike Stafford, Broner’s trainer appear to refuse to accept the beating and loss that Broner suffered. It’s pathetic the way you people are looking for a way to explain or exonerate Broner from such a devastating, embarrassing defeat.
I tell you what though, if it is proven that Ariza did give something to Maidana, I’ll call you up on your show and publicly apologize to you. But if it turns out the other way, I want you to publicly apologize to everyone during your first show after a determination is made regarding this issue, and a written apology here on ESB would also be appropriate.
What a pathetic load of crap slinging accusations at Maidana and his team just because a bunch of cry babies can’t handle the fact that Broner got his a$$ kicked.
We’ll see what happens, until then I advise you to shut your mouth and quit printing filth until the truth is revealed.Posted December 16, 2013 9:48 am

Having watched the youtube clip 10 times now, still can’t see anything being done wrong… if anyone can plz give me the exact time of clip where something illegal is going on i’ll take this serious …Ariza is a scumbag and I don’t think pro boxers should continue to work with him….But if Vivek is in fact a “real” person he could be sued by this since it’s clearly slander without substancial evidence of a crime..If Maidana fails testing or there is a smoking gun clearly the table will turn,,,,But this? C’mon!…
This is dumb. Are you a dumb guy? Because you sometimes write dumb things…Posted December 16, 2013 9:38 am

The only punches that hurt maidana were the 3 that landed after the bell in the 11th. Maidana wasn’t given extra time to recover and cleared his head 1/2 way thru the 12th and he put it on lil AB. Had the tables been reversed AB would have been rolling on the ground like a porn star and cried like he did in the 8th. Lawrence Cole is the best ref money can buy. Next time Al Haymon buys the ref and judges, not jus the ref.Posted December 16, 2013 8:24 am
What we learned about Broner is there is nothing wrong with his heart. Great fight and if it was over 15 I’d say the result would have been very different. Maidana was hurt badly in the 12th. Seems like Broners surrounded by guys he can just yell at. He needs a strong guy that wont take his bs.Posted December 16, 2013 8:17 am
