David Tua deserved the world title fight against Lennox Lewis in 2000. BUT he was doomed to have no chanse against the bigger, stronger, heavier, faster, more skilled, more expearend champion Lewis. Lewis just had Tua’s number and knew from round one how to out-box him and win a clear victory. Tua did his best but early learned he would have a big time difficulty against Lennox Lewis. Just sadly that David Tua never fought John Ruiz or Chris Byrd for rematches and there respective world title belt.

Lewis broke a bigger sweat hitting the heavy bag

Tua followed him around the ring like a fat puppy as Lennox jabbed his head off
and threw the right to keep him honest

One of his easiest fights

Assyrian god — well beaten by Lewis??? Uhhhh … Yeah he was hospitalized after the fight …lol …come on man that wasn’t even a fight …

Sweed-How do you know that David didn’t give it his all and that’s all he could muster up in his career?…

Kees – Thanks man, I mean it is a bit sad that David Tua dod not use his popular status in a smarter way when he could.

You’re right on the button Swedish Boxing Fan. Tua had every opportunity but blew it. I’m a big fan of his but seeing him like this is truly sad. A victory over Ustinov will only delay the inevitable.

Posted October 13, 2013 6:15 am

Tua with the silly haircut is a good idea. It may have a cushioning effect and absorb some of the punches plus would be irritating as hell in the face of ustinov when they clinch. Bring back the silly hair cut Tua………it’s your only chance tubby!!!

Posted October 13, 2013 3:05 am

This fight makes no sense, too much height difference. If Tua has to fight for living, he should pick somebody else…if it does happen, it will be a circus act..

It’s Me, Ernie – you again, like always so happy to hear from you. Well did I talk about David Tua as a private person? That’s right I only talked about his boxing career and decisions of his career’s way and all fan support he had let down in a shorter version. I’m very sure he is a nice guy, I never said annything in opposite way about him as a private person. BUT he could have achived so-so much more in his pro boxing career if he had used more of his heart and less safe-ego becouse what did that give him after he fought Lennox Lewis in 2000 for the world heavyweight title and lost by clear UD? He fought Hasim Rahman again to a draw and knocked-out former 4-time world champion Michael Moorer in 1st round, knocked out Fres Oquendo and Danell Nicholson and was out-boxed by Chris Byrd among others. Tua could easily have got a world title fight against John Ruiz’s WBA title, Chris Byrd’s IBF world title or Wladimir Klitschko’s WBO title between 2001-2003 becouse he was high ranked on all 4 major world title organistations BUT choosed to not fight any of them. I mean Ruiz he had already knocked out in 1 round years earlier and BVyrd could have went another try or a slugging war with Wladimir but somehow he did not want it even as he was well regarded ranked and box-office hit tfor people to watch fight so the sum of it all = Wasted tallent. I just say that David Tua could have achived so much more in his career with the potentials he had BUT like I said, he threw it all away. Many fighters just dreamed of what he had back then.

Tua was powerful when he was younger in the Lennox Lewis Era but he’s not now, He’s got a great heart but not able to do what he did years ago. Retire Champ and let’s just keep the memories of the glory days … PEACE

Fantastic match up, very poignant in todays heavyweight realm with the winner to really shake things up

SORRY, I meant he fought out of New Zealand and for New Zealand but was born in Samoa. He won Olympic Bronze for New Zealand in 1992, Barcelona.

DAVID TUA, is a Kiwi. He’s from New Zealand. Hope that clears things up!

I’d rather sit through Klit vs. povo than watch Tua vs. Klit–’cause that’ s where this fight can lead.

David Tua is Walter Matthaus

I remember an old Boxing News UK interview in where they asked Tua what car he drove

He answered that it was a old 70’s Mini Cooper
That cracked me up
Can you Imagine Warrior Tua driving around NZ squeezed in an old 70’s Mini ?

Like High Tower in Police Academy

These guys look like the odd couple

A 45 year old Tua with a Marlyn Manson haircut would make him look even more rediclous
It would not make him appear taller
Small fat man in a wig
Might as well Put Joe Pesci working his corner also

Posted October 12, 2013 2:02 am

Tua should have grown his hair out in the Samoan Warrior style he used to sport, and he would have looked taller and bigger and more intimidating with that doo he used to wear. I think it gave him some power. Don’t know why he shaved it off.????????????? I bet Tua like Big George still has that KO Power in either hand. Once you are born with that, you always have it. Like the Late Tommy Morrison. Tommy took that killer left hook of his to the grave with him. R.I.P.
I am kind of rootin for Tua to land a bomb on the Goliath. You never know.

Posted October 12, 2013 1:10 am

If Tua wins
And it’s a big IF . . . . looking at him,
Worn out. Out of shape, old , depressed, sad and crumpled up

Put him in with Dave Haye
A lot of older boxing fans who remember the Tua glory years would pay to see that

I will wager 20.00 bucks that if Tua wins this fight over the big guy, the other big guy (Vitali) will give Tua a shot at the WBC Title. After Stiverne hits the canvas of course.

Posted October 11, 2013 11:59 pm

Tua has only got one chance in this fight. To land a massive punch/hook on the 6’8 ustinov and that is not going to happen. Personally I dont think this fight willl even take place. He will struggle with Ustinov’s height/reach, if he gets inside he will not be able to out muscle the much bigger ustinov. Tua does not have the speed to evade ustinov nor the fitness to constantly apply pressure for 12 rounds. He needs to box ustinov and use movement but that is not tua. What was he thinking taking this fight. If he does face Ustinov expect to see tua quite due to some injury in round 3 or 4 after taking a beating.

Posted October 11, 2013 11:31 pm

Wow. Next to Ustinov Tua looks like a toddler, what with his shaved head and all. Is Ustinov standing on something?

Posted October 11, 2013 9:01 pm

@ pe – tua and ike in their primes were a little before your time youngblood! Lol

Posted October 11, 2013 8:52 pm

@ pe – ike didnt k.o. tua. Ike won on ud. Both traded massive shot in an all out war! Best hw fight i ever saw. Back when hw boxing was awesome. Both these guys in their prime k.o. vlad klit!

Posted October 11, 2013 8:51 pm

Ustinov should win, but he’ll go home with a bellyache – he’s just the right height for my old hero, TUA, to bang away without having to reach !

Posted October 11, 2013 8:32 pm

Tua needs to sit his old ass down! Dude must be broke as a joke still trying to fight at age 50! But man tua was a monster in his prime!

Tua should hang them up. The man still looks like a bull. But his best days were in the mid 90s(20yrs ago). Still enjoy watching his classic fight w/ Ibeabuchi.

Wow some real f***ing idiots posting on here as usual. My favourite is the very first post by DMX, quote ‘ two sad, old, out of shape, worn out middle aged men’ – dontcha just love these spineless, jellyfish cowards sitting behind their computers disrespecting fighting men? fighting men who would decapitate them in 2 seconds and have them crying for their mommas. I tell you, the first political party that comes along advocating the mass culling of human beings will have my vote. See you all in hell you weak sacks of s***

If….Tua pulls this fight off in a win, it will put him right in the SCENE of the Contenders. He will make the scene. He will be downtown David brown!!

Posted October 11, 2013 11:16 am

Camera angle shows Ustinov’s fist to be as big as Tiny Tua’s head. I sure hope Tua does not get hurt in this one. He does still posess the big bomb, but can he get in close enough to land one????

Posted October 11, 2013 11:11 am

Alexander is nine inches taller than Tua. Plus he’ll probably outweight Tua by at least 50 pounds. Even though Pulev KOd Ustinov, Alexander outweighed him by 51 lbs in their fight. The heavyweight division is a joke.

Tue looks very old, surely with his popularity in his homeland he could find a new direction. Another sad tale of an old washed up fighter clinging on, fighters with his style never have long careers (Frazier/Tyson et al). I wish the bloke well, can’t see much more than a beatdown for him though.

David Tua had his chanse, in fact several chanses to get world title fights between 2000-2004 and even win a recognised world title belt but he threw it all away. I mean from his “comeback” in 2005 after been away for over 2 years from boxing (throwing away the best years possible) hye have only fought 12 times (10-1-1) against NON top contender material. Only a shot Monte Barrett was there worth mention and Tua lost both fights but gor a gift Draw in the 1st fight. Now he is 41 years old and is so far away from worthy of another world title fight and thats so, so sad. Tua could have been regarded as one of all times greatest heavyweight contenders (Not champion), if he had fought on. 1 World title fight and remember here that he was one of the most popular fighters in the heavyweight division from 1998-2004. Jameel McCline, Andrew Golota and Francois Botha all got 4-world title shots, Monte Barrett, Fres Oquendo and Kirk Johnson all got 2 world title shots and so on BUT Tua thod he could wait out and then pick something or whatever but he blew his great potential.

This looks like a circus act.

Posted October 11, 2013 6:26 am

TUA looks, short, old and fat in this pic.

Incredible to think it is more than 10 years since he fought that classic fight vs IKE IBEABUCHI, that broke all punch stats records for a heavyweight fight and gave us the false hopes that these two men could have been the future of the heavyweight division.

But, one man should have retired long, long ago and the other found his way into a lunatic asylum, throwing away all his great potential….

Reminds me of both TONY “EL TORITO” AYALA JNR. and EDWIN VALERO, who both had the potential to become stars of the boxing world, but elected to throw away their gifts by predatory instincts and drug-fuelled drink binges, resulting in misery for countless people, friends and family
