He wasn’t on his knee until 9.. He was off his knee well before the count of 9.. Everyone knows he got a partisan quick count..

Total BS because the knockdown punch was to the back of Scott’s head… so the knockdown count should have been waved off and Scott given a 5-minute rest … Those are the rules on an accidental foul blow.

Anyone of the opinion that we, the fans have been jobbed? Royally? Neither of these fat asses are quality opponents for the Klits and the only way to generate interest for either is to create a controversy? It seems that the ending had already been scripted. Most fighters I’ve seen take a knee until the eight count. VER, very rarely have I seen ANY fighter risk a nine count for the very reason that was on display this time out. Smells like a set-up to me.

Ben Hill

Don’t blame the tainted referee but Malik Scott’s promoter, what the hell’s going to England to fight Frank Warren’s protege? and Malik Scott is not even a puncher, so it’s was clear that his only chance was a win by decision

I really struggle with this guy’s articles, even more than before.

‘It looked like the referee might have been confused in the amount of fingers he was holding up because Scott was clearly on his feet at the count of 9’…no he wasnt. The ref clearly got to the count of 9 whilst Scott was still down. This is very easily verified from all the footage.

‘Good luck trying to make that happen. Chisora isn’t even ranked in the top 15, and he’s still lost 4 out of his last 7 fights’…As Chisora is now the WBO International champion (nothing to write home about I know), he is guranteed a top 10 world ranking by the WBO.

Wrong again numpty.

The ref got trigger happy. End of story. Bad stoppage and another dis satisfying fight.

Posted July 21, 2013 8:56 am

Another example of hometown refereeing but Scott can only blame himself. His safety first approach has cost him again.Every pro fighter knows that you get up at the 8 count if at all possible. He could have done so but didn’t.That is his fault. He has many skills but lacks the needed mental approach to be a top fighter.

Posted July 21, 2013 8:49 am

Chisora wins the rematch. Scott knows it. Get it done, fight was warming up nicely and the fans deserve a rematch.

Scott before fight to Chisora ” what round am I going down in? ” lol.

Posted July 21, 2013 8:05 am

jus read and learn

The fact that there is a big debate about whether he got up in time or not shows that it should not have been stopped. Had the ref let the fight continue, NOT ONE person would have complained saying that he should have been counted out. Even if he got up and was wobbling all over the place, u might feel the ref was slightly more justified to stop the fight, but the fact is he got up BEFORE the 10 count with all his senses in tact and the ref just waived of a fight which was warming up and the fans deserved to see. This is boxing and the ref should have some friggin common sense to know when to let a fight continue. Had this been the other way round and this happen to chisora or another english fighter, everyone would be up in arms including those bias commentators who could clearly see he got up before 10 but chose to ignore it.

Posted July 21, 2013 7:34 am

bollox the man got up the fight should have continued…

Posted July 21, 2013 6:15 am

I wish Americans weren`t so soft and full of quit, then they might make for decent opponents, but what can you do?
If this mental weakness is just ingrained into the culture, then we`ll just have to accept that the USA is a second tier boxing nation behind the likes of UK, Mexico, Cuba and the Ukraine.

Posted July 21, 2013 2:59 am

Honestly I would have waved him on since I`d rather see him stopped in devastating style than arguing about 9.5-10 seconds.

Once the ref had hit 9 he looked like he`d decided to say 10 no matter what.

If you think staying down for that extra one second is worth it, then maybe in the future you`d think about this and say not.

Irrespective SCott has been walked down and put over by a fairly straightforward and not that powerful a fighter, and it only took him 6 rounds to get to that point.
Scott doesn`t have the power to keep people off, so I`d look around and see a lot of guys who would happily walk into range and eat a couple of jabs to drill one over the top like Chisora did.

This is why Scott never stepped up, and he goes onto the pile of people like David Rodriguez, Chauncy Welliver, Mansour, Joe Mesi and Deontay Wilder who b.u.m.slayed the USA and never stepped up.

Posted July 21, 2013 2:39 am

Mongrel…. You get more time if you take a 9-count… A hostile referee is already wiping your gloves off as he’s giving you a mandatory… If you get up at 9 he has to check to see if you’re fine.. wipe your gloves and order “box.” … Often as he completes the mandatory he doesn’t check you, has already wiped your gloves, and just says, “6, 7, 8, BOX”

Posted July 21, 2013 1:58 am

This was a Fight between two NON Championship Contenders who aren’t very good. Haye remains as the most impressive UK HW.

Posted July 21, 2013 12:52 am

That’s a GOOD idea. Put a cam on the ref and then a Head referee can review the footage and school those who fall short…Just like the NBA and NFL.

Posted July 21, 2013 12:50 am

You stay down till 8, since you are going to get a mandatory 8 count anyway, and that gives you time to be up and looking the ref in the eye.

The ref was shouting the numbers in his face, showing him on his hands and counting at a consistent rate which hit 10 before Scott was fully up.

He was actually down for 11 seconds if you check with a timer on youtube.

I don`t have much sympathy. Though I`d like to see a camerview of his face when he was kneeling, so we knew exactly what the refs view looked like

Posted July 21, 2013 12:26 am

KO… You’re talking stupid.. Malik DID have a problem with it and wants a rematch.. As Scott clearly stated, “Everybody could see I was up at the count of 9″ which was correct… 9 comes before 10 Therefore he beat the count.. You don’t go “OUT” when a guy is on his feet.. He’s up so you check if he’s fit to continue … Rotten ref.

I seemed to recall thinking Scott seemed a little intimidated by Chisora during that conference call they did. It was pretty subtle and lesser observant and intelligent people than myself wouldn’t have picked it up. I’m very astute when it comes to this things.. very little gets past me. And I think Chisora broke him a little mentally at that point and it reappeared during the fight when adversity came a knockin’ on his door. I’m not saying Scott flat out quit.. it’s just I think he might have subconsciously been looking for a way out and it manifested itself in his body language and demeanour at that moment in time.

Posted July 20, 2013 8:22 pm

Gonzo the Dragonborn

Ronald.. The ref could’ve easily deducted points of Scott for all that excessive American style holding aka cheating he was doing, but he didn’t. In fact, I don’t recall seeing him issue him with any warnings about it ether.

Posted July 20, 2013 8:12 pm

Malik Scott quit, he knew what was going on, he could of got straight back up, he was tired, it’s a different thing fighting at world level against Chisora, tried and tested fighter.

Posted July 20, 2013 8:11 pm

Jimmy Young might have done the same with another round against Foreman.

Posted July 20, 2013 7:58 pm

Exactly, remember Foreman was the baddest man on the planet, knocking out Frazier, Norton, everyone else no one expected Ali to do that, knocking out Foreman.

Posted July 20, 2013 7:54 pm

Max…That would be a great fight, would like to see that happen. And KO8 really Ali wore out Foreman by his ring IQ and the rope a dope,Foreman was shot because of Ali tactics.

Posted July 20, 2013 7:49 pm

Chisora and the ref vs Scott, only ever gonna be one winner.

Posted July 20, 2013 7:47 pm

Foreman weared himself out against Ali, Foreman expected to knock him out easily but was absolutely spent by the 8th round, Foreman was exhausted and could not get up.

Posted July 20, 2013 7:44 pm

Wonder if he would take a chance on Wilder?

Posted July 20, 2013 7:42 pm

Yeah that could be true and he probably cared more than ODLH.

Posted July 20, 2013 7:37 pm

Shane…Beating a guy untill hes flopping around like a wet rag,and cant go on.Or beating a guy untill his face looks like he got hit with a meat cleaver, isnt really pathetic.Lets not forget Foreman was a brick wall, hard to even wobble.Even in his comeback when he fought Morrison for the WBO belt Tommy hit him with some solid shots and didnt even knock him down. And Morrison was a very hard puncher, hit like a mule kicked.

Posted July 20, 2013 7:36 pm

Scott had little to say when they first counted him out, therefore he lost heart or was tired or was more hurt then we excpected.Like ODL banging the canvas when Hopkins hit him with that body shot, and then jumping up after the 10 count.ODL could have beaten the count that night but wanted no more part of it,made it look like he was upset after the count, knowing full well he didnt want to get up.Scott also didnt seem to have the heart to go on,took alittle to long for such a young hungry fighter to prove himself.A tough young hungry fighter with a good ring IQ wouldnt have played it off like this.

Posted July 20, 2013 7:19 pm

Foreman was watching his corner for the signal to get up instead of the ref when he was koed (pushed down from exhaustion) vs Ali. It happens. Man I am remembering Ali’s knockouts….and most are quite pathetic. Foreman wasn’t even stunned…..Liston dove….Cooper cuts……Chuck Wepner it took like 50 unanswered blows. Khan koed Judah on the books but…no. Joe C koed Manfredo…laugher ……been way worse stoppages.

Posted July 20, 2013 7:19 pm

Scott made a huge error getting up as late as he did. Last time I saw this was when Rafael Ruelas lost his first fight in the 2nd round. Ruelas was looking at the corners count and misjudged. Scott should get a rematch if he wants one.

Audley “punch bag” Harrison is looking for one last payday (like his last half dozen were “last”) against Chisora. For god’s sake don’t make this fight, Scott was a very good opponent and Harrison would be a monumental backward step that every fan who has a clue will rightly ridicule relentlessly. Harrison you’re garbage, go away. Fwank should look at a Wilder or better yet Boytsov.

Yep Sesame street was class – Cookie Monster and Oscar the grouch are my favourites. I’d love to see those to go at it in a 4 round exhibition match if Cookie Monster coud stay disciplined enough to make weight.

Much as I loved Sesame Street though, Dangermouse and Bananman were always the ones battling it out for top spot for me.

LOl Brother Mongrel. I used to love Sesame Street, and The Count was one of my favourites. Him and Ernie and Bert.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:39 pm

This is like when Judah said he didn`t know he wwas being counted out by Khan.

I think it is because US kids learn to count by watching the COunt on Sesame street. They think that there is supposed to be a “Mwahahahahha” between each number, so they have longer to get up.

This fight was completely meaningless in the HW landscape. Scott nor Chis were going anywhere no matter what happened. In fact I had forgotten this Scott dude was still even fighting until this. WTF had he been doing?

Posted July 20, 2013 6:28 pm

Chisora is the real deal, totally dominated the fight against a world class competitor. He’s next in line for a world title fight.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:27 pm

Ruskull – you meant terrible, dumb decision to stay down till 9. He knew he was going to get beat so deliberately stayed down.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:24 pm

Chisora hit him so hard he lost his ability to count. I hope it returns. They should do a full battery of tests to make sure he can still spell too.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:23 pm

von Pugsly

Even though I thought Scott was winning and that the stoppage was bogus, in the end I’d rather watch Chisora fight again on the big stage than watch Malik ‘Sparring Partner Syndrome’ Scott. Wouldn’t mind seeing Chisora against another American HW next, Bryant Jennings. Or, hell, throw him in with Adamek if the Pole wins his tune-up match.

Not impressed with Chisora or Scott. Neither of them are world class. All Chisora has is grit, a good engine and a stout chin, whereas all Scott has is pretty nice skills and athleticism.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:21 pm

‘That was a total BS partisan referee stoppage’- you meant the ref that let him hold non stop the whole fight without a warning? Did the partisan referee also make him fall to the ground and foolishly wait until 9 to try to get up?

Posted July 20, 2013 6:19 pm

ggg. agreed

Posted July 20, 2013 6:18 pm

TARK – You have to get up before 10, not on 10!!!! He got knocked down and didn’t look like he had the heart to continue. It was a cheap way for him to try to save face. pretending he wanted to continue and getting himself timed out. He is a dull boxer with no power that ran like a beeatch for 6 rounds and went down from not a particularly hard puncher. Can you imagine what Vlad would do to him? He would’ve punched a hole in him.
Sorry Malik, you blew it. You never wait till 9 to get up, you would’ve got stopped anyway.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:17 pm

You have 9 seconds to get up 10 and your out. FFS a ten year old knows that. Just another thing that shows up how little some so called experts on here really know eh TARK LOL

Posted July 20, 2013 6:14 pm

TARK, you are talking rubbish, Malik Scott had no problem with it, he made a mistake or was more tired then we thought, Chisora has fought the top fighters, Malik Scott was stepping up.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:13 pm

Gonzo the Dragonborn

Leaving it till 9 is never smart. The next number after is 10. And the referee let SCott get away with a ridiculous amount of holding. He should’ve reprimanded him for it numerous times, and if he continued, started deducting points until he stopped.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:12 pm

He was in the act of getting up when the count reached 10, anyway the latest you leave it to start getting up is 8.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:11 pm

Malik Scott TARK

Posted July 20, 2013 6:10 pm

Jerry Quarry did that when he lost to Chuvalo.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:09 pm

That was a total BS partisan referee stoppage.. The rules allow you a full 10 count to get up.. And he got up BEFORE the 10 count was competed. Scott knew he was cheated. He’s just hoping for a rematch.

Scott was up BEFORE the count of 10. Everybody saw he was robbed. It was an equilibrium shot like David Price got hit with. The SMART thing to do is take a 9-count so your feet are very steady when you DO get up.. Otherwise if your feet waver even a speck you give the referee an excuse to stop it.. Obviously he wasn’t hurt badly.. He could have gotten up immediately, but he has 10 seconds to get up… If the rules stated he has to get up in 9.5 seconds he was STILL up … But he was definitely up before 10. So he was robbed blind.

The referee was harrassing him anyway. They put a partisan bastard in as referee and robbed the fans of a complete fight.

knocked out!!!!!! whoop whoop. not on your feet by 10,, your out. cant blame the ref, blame the rules!! maybe change it to 11 seconds ha ha ha

Posted July 20, 2013 6:03 pm

one eye

Sad ending to interesting fight.Scott won 4,Chisora won 1 rounds going into r6.Oneway traffic for Scott.Scott was either gassed out or hurt or miscalculated the count or did he give up.Only he knows.Chisora gets ‘hollow’ win.Good fight between quality boxers.

Posted July 20, 2013 6:02 pm

Malik has probably never been knocked down before and tried to take his sweet time. I think the ref made a mistake but Malik only has himself to blame.

Posted July 20, 2013 5:57 pm

Posted July 20, 2013 5:53 pm

Malik Scott is awful, skillful but awful to watch, ran and held. Got knocked down and got up at 9 and a half!!!!!!!!!!! He would’ve got ko’d properly anyway. Dumb Americans.

Posted July 20, 2013 5:52 pm

Malik Scott tried to get up at 9.5 – BAD idea! Good win for Delboy who walked through slick Malik’s fire like a tank. That really exposed Malik. A rematch should be fun with the same result. Malik, you either get up at 8 AT THE LATEST, or you’re done.

Posted July 20, 2013 5:52 pm

English ref at their best Bs stoppage , ref just had enough of the hugging all nite

Posted July 20, 2013 5:48 pm

wtf just happened there? Scott makes the biggest mistakes. First he thinks he has it in the bag against Glaskov and gets a tie, then he thinks he can get up with 1/2 second left in the count and loses to Chisora. Everyone gets up at 8 to show the ref they’re okay. Terrible ending though, the ref should have examined him quickly and said yeah he’s okay. Then the round would have ended, and an interesting fight would have continued. Scott would have had to really try after the 10-8 round, and the last few rounds would have been great.
