Mundine Stops McKart In 7 – Mayweather Fight Possible With Win Over Cotto Or Alvarez

By Brendan George: Australia’s Anthony Mundine (44-4-26 KO’s) scored an impressive one sided victory in his American debut on Saturday night against former World Champion Bronco McKart (54-10-1-32KO’s) at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

On the line was the IBF North American Middleweight title. “I’m the ‘Wonder From Down-Under’ baby. I got the skills that pay the bills!” Mundine proudly stated after his win. “I have mad respect for Mayweather. He’s the best P4P. I want to fight the best so I’m targeting him..” When asked did he think Mayweather would fight him next, Mundine stated, “ It would be a dream, but seriously I need to make more noise. I got fast hands, fast feet and a fast mouth” Mundine continued “After I beat Cotto or Alvarez, Mayweather has got to look at fighting me.”

Adding speculation to the concept that Mundine could land the dream fight against Mayweather, was the ring appearance of Floyd Mayweather Sr after the fight, “I think you should fight Cotto” stated Mayweather Sr, “Floyds the man to meet if you want to get beat”.

Promoter Vlad Warton from Milienum Events was very positive in regard to Mundine’s performance. “Anthony looked great in his American debut. He showed us a bit of everything tonight – speed, movement and plenty of showmanship, and he closed out with precision power punching”. When asked what was next for Mundine, Mr Warton stated: “We are looking to bring Anthony back to Vegas in a bigger fight in 3 months time. The team will sit down today and map out who we want. As a promoter, I will go and make it happen”.

In closing Mundine stated: “I want to thank the team at Milienum Events, promoter Vlad Warton, matchmaker Jack Crider and Australian agent Brendan Bourke for making my debut in the USA a smooth ride. I also want to thank Wealth TV for doing such a great job putting the show together.”

The main support bout contested over 12 rounds for the IBF International Light Heavyweight title, Cornelius White (20-1, 16KO) beat Dmitry Sukhotsky (18-2-13KO’s) by wide unanimous decision. White used his reach well and dominated the fight and that was reflected on the judge’s scorecards.
