Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. vs. Rafael Marquez on August 4th; Jerry Lewis shares his passion for boxing

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO- As good gentlemen, former world champions Wilfredo Vázquez Jr. and Rafael Marquez were face to face today in a press conference for their August 4 clash in “The War, Puerto Rico vs Mexico” at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, in a PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presentation, in association with All Star Boxing, Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer, to be televised on Pay Per View.

“We are going to present another great night with fights between Puerto Rico and Mexico with Puerto Ricans Vazquez Jr. and Rocky Martinez against Mexicans Marquez and Miguel Beltran Jr. for regional titles and in their ways to world title shots”, promoter Ivan Rivera, PRBBP president, said.

Vazquez Jr. (21-2-1, 18 KOs), former WBO superbantamweight champion, will fight Marquez (41-7, 37 KOs), former IBF bantamweight and WBC superbantemweight champion, for the WBO International superbantamweight title, scheduled to 12 rounds, headlining the show. Vazquez is ranked #7 and Marquez #9 in the WBO superbantamweight division.

“I know you”, Vazquez Jr. said to Marquez, “and I’m training for a big fight. I don’t underestimate you for your age as a lot of people do. I had two ways to continue my career, the long way, to make two or three fights and then go for a title or fight against Marquez, a veteran, as the short way. I choose the short way and I am going to fight against Marquez”.

Marquez, a 37 year old veteran, said that “I had been training for a month and a half and I come to Puerto Rico to a war. Puerto Ricans know who I am and know that I come to a great fight”.

Meanwhile, Roman “Rocky” Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KOs), a WBO junior lightweight champion between 2009 and 2010 with two successful defenses will fight against Miguel Beltran Jr. (27-1, 17 KOs) for the NABO WBO junior lightweight title and in a WBO world title eliminator, scheduled to 12 rounds. Martinez is the #9 and Beltran Jr. the #11 ranked in the WBO 130lbs division.

“This is a chance that I’m not going to waste. I am in a 10 month inactivity, buet always training and you are going to see the same Rocky”, Martinez, who is weighing 141 pounds, said.
