Tarver said to fighthub “I’m going to win the heavyweight championship. If Wladimir Klitschko fights me I’m beating him, and bringing the heavyweight title back to America.”
You got to respect Tarver for having ambition and a goal that he’s shooting for. However, right now it wouldn’t see like a realistic option because he’s not even fighting in the heavyweight division. Tarver did fight at heavyweight for one fight two years ago, beating Nagy Aguilera by a 10 round unanimous decision.. Tarver looked good in that fight, and I thought he did better against Aguilera than Tomasz Adamek did recently. But Tarver went back down to cruiserweight after that fight and defeated International Boxing Organization cruiserweight champion Danny Green by a 9th round stoppage last year in July.
Tarver hasn’t fought since then. A win over the muscular but limited Kayode likely won’t mean much in terms of making Tarver marketable for a fight against Wladimir. What Tarver needs to do is move up in weight and take on a well-known heavyweight like Adamek. If Tarver can beat Adamek or someone like him, he’ll get the attention of Wladimir or his brother Vitali Klitschko.
Tarver seems to want Wladimir for some reason, perhaps because he’s known for being the Klitschko with the weaker chin. But Wladimir won’t likely agree to face Tarver unless he first knocks off one of the top 15 heavyweights and picks a ranking in the division. Wladimir is facing Tony Thompson on July 7th in Switzerland. After that fight, Wladimir will likely be facing #1 WBC Chris Arreola in December in New York. If Tarver is going to fit into Wladimir’s plans, it’s going to be in 2013, because Wladimir has talked about wanting the Arreola bout for December.
