JESSIE VARGAS GETS STERN TEST IN WALTER ESTRADA ON JULY 8 EDITION OF “SÓLO BOXEO TECATE” FROM PRIMM, NEV.

LOS ANGELES, July 1 – After exciting events in April and May, Golden Boy Promotions returns to Buffalo Bill’s Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, Nev. on Friday, July 8, for another explosive night of world-class boxing when unbeaten local hero Jessie Vargas of Las Vegas steps into the ring to face seasoned veteran Walter Estrada in the main event of TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate.”

In the six round co-feature, unbeaten Southern California junior middleweights Alfonso Blanco and Cleveland H. Ishe meet in a battle for west coast bragging rights.

Vargas vs. Estrada, a 10-round junior welterweight bout, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Roy Englebrecht Promotions’ special edition of “Fight Club Primm,” and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and AT&T. Doors open at 6:30pm PT, the first bell rings at 7:00pm PT and the TeleFutura broadcast begins at 11:30pm ET / PT (10:30pm CT).

Tickets, priced at $50 (Floor) and $20 (General Admission), are on sale now and may be purchased at the Star of the Desert Arena Box Office or online at www.primmvalleyresorts.com.

Fans at home can also be part of the action by participating in Cinturón Tecate and voting for the fighter in the main event who displayed the most character in the ring by sending a text message to 55333. Voting will be open through the end of the weekend.

Long considered by most to be a top 140-pound prospect, 22-year-old Jessie Vargas (15-0, 8 KO’s) turned any doubters into believers in April when he needed just one round to finish former World Champion “Vicious” Vivian Harris. The win catapulted Vargas into the consciousness of fans and the boxing community. Considering his remarkable ring savvy, power and exciting style, the Las Vegas product will be getting plenty of big opportunities to shine in the future, but before that, he has to get past a tough test in Estrada.

Miami’s Walter Estrada (39-14-1, 25 KO’s) is boxing’s unofficial dream crusher who in the past year has put together stirring wins over top-rated prospects Verquan Kimbrough and Tyrese Hendrix as well as former World Champion Nate “The Galaxxy Warrior” Campbell. Estrada has the talent and confidence to beat any fighter in the world on any given night. A power-punching southpaw originally from Colombia, the 35-year-old veteran has no doubt that he has everything it takes to hand Vargas his first defeat on July 8.

2008 Venezuelan Olympian Alfonso Blanco (5-0, 2 KO’s) knows more than most young prospects about competing at the highest levels of the game, but the 25-year-old is taking his time in learning the professional level of the sport, with spectacular results thus far. Now making his home in Oxnard, California, Blanco has already won three bouts in 2011, most recently shutting out Juan Carlos Diaz in April. On July 8, he will look to keep his unbeaten streak going against a fellow undefeated fighter in Ishe.

Los Angeles’ Cleveland H. Ishe (3-0, 1 KO) enters the ring on July 8 without the fanfare of his former amateur star opponent, but he comes in with just as much determination to put on a show for the fans and keep his perfect record intact. A professional for a little over a year, Ishe is coming off of a four-round win over Jason Montgomery in March and would like nothing better than to kick off his summer with the biggest victory of his young career.

Tecate, cerveza con carácter, is the largest beer brand to sponsor boxing matches in the U.S. Part of its commitment to make boxing accessible to consumers is the title sponsorship of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate,” which creates an opportunity for local fans to witness some of the most exhilarating fights by today’s up-and-coming prospects. Additionally, Tecate has been a primary supporter of Golden Boy Promotions’ marquee events since 2007, and has launched a variety of initiatives to ensure consumers are part of the boxing experience, including boxer autograph signing sessions, commemorative cans, PPV mail-in rebate offers, and most recently the launch of a mobile museum “Tecate Museo de Boxeo,” which showcases decades of the most memorable moments in the sport.

DiBella Entertainment signs former world champion Joachim Alcine

NEW YORK, NY (July 1, 2011) – DiBella Entertainment has added former World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight champion Joachim Alcine to its stable of fighters. Alcine, 35, is a Haitian-born Canadian who employs a very technical style of boxing but in a crowd-pleasing way. After an extended layoff, Alcine is ready to return to the ring and prove that he belongs among the junior middleweight elite.

“I’m looking forward to getting back into the ring very soon,” says Alcine. “I’m out to prove to the boxing world, my fans and most importantly myself that I am still one of the best junior middleweights in the world. I know that as long as I take care of my business in the ring, my adviser Greg Leon and promoter Lou DiBella will get me the fights I want and need.”

Alcine joins Zsolt Erdei, Allan Green, J’Leon Love, Luis Rosa, and Delen Parsley Jr. as members of the DBE stable also advised by Greg Leon.

Said Leon, “I feel like I’ve been saying it every other week lately, but it’s always a pleasure to work with DBE. Team Alcine looks forward to achieving great results under his promotional banner.”

It was after Alcine moved to Canada at the age of nine when he grew fascinated with the sport of boxing. However, due to having strict parents, it wasn’t until the age of 16 that Alcine took up the sport, acquiring an amateur record of 42-6 over the next eight years. Turning pro on May 28, 1999, Alcine dispatched Louis Bouchard at 2:44 of the opening round in Montreal. Word quickly spread about this rising prospect six months later when Alcine took on local amateur star Jason Naugler and won a majority four-round decision in his opponent’s hometown of Edmonton. Television caught wind of Alcine and began to air his early fights, recognizing that his style was well suited for such a platform. He also started to gain a following by appearing on the undercards of popular Canadian fighters such as Davey Hilton and Eric Lucas.

On May 25, 2002, with a record of 12-0 (8 KOs), Alcine fought the crafty and experienced Marcos Primera at the Lowes Speedway, in Charlotte, NC, in what was his introduction to an American audience, as the bout was televised by Showtime’s popular series, “ShoBox: The New Generation.” Not only was it Alcine’s United States debut, it was the first time that he fought outside of Canada. After out-boxing Primera over 12 rounds, Alcine won a unanimous decision to earn the IBA junior middleweight title.

Over the next four and a half years, and 15 straight wins with 10 knockouts, Alcine would go on to acquire several other minor titles at junior middleweight, including the Canadian title, as well as the WBA Fedelatin, NABA, WBC International, and WBA Fedecentro belts.

Notable victories during this period include blasting out former Canadian junior middleweight and middleweight champion Stephan Ouellet in just 69 seconds, and stopping former IBF junior middleweight title challenger Carlos Bojorquez in seven rounds, and former WBA junior middleweight titlist Carl Daniels in six.

On July 7, 2007, Alcine got his first world title opportunity, making his third US appearance when he traveled to the champion’s home state of Connecticut, taking on the undefeated Travis Simms, at Harbour Yard Arena in Bridgeport. Maintaining his role as the aggressor throughout, combined with scoring a knockdown in the ninth frame, earned Alcine a unanimous decision as he picked up the WBA junior middleweight crown. In his first defense, Alcine thoroughly dominated Alfonso Mosquera before dropping him twice in the 12th round, on his way to the TKO victory.

It was in his next bout that Alcine lost his title to Daniel Santos via sixth-round knockout in a close fight, on July 11, 2008. However, in 2009, a refreshed Alcine bounced back with two impressive unanimous decision victories over quality foes Eric Mitchell in 10 and Christophe Canclaux in 12. These two wins warranted him a World Boxing Council (WBC) eliminator against the hard punching Alfredo Angulo, but he would stunningly get stopped inside one round, on July 17, 2010.

Alcine, 32-2 (19 KOs), is looking forward to getting back on track under the DiBella Entertainment banner. His next bout is not yet scheduled.
