Camp Lejeune to Host the 2010 USA Boxing Junior National Championships, June 14-19
(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – The future stars of amateur boxing will vie for a coveted national title at the 2010 USA Boxing Junior National Championships, June 14-19 in Camp Lejeune, N.C. The event will make the move to a new locale for 2010 edition with over 200 of the nation’s best 15 and 16-year-old boxers convening in North Carolina for the annual event..

2010 USA Boxing Junior National Championships action will begin on Tuesday, June 15 at the Goettge Memorial Field House in Camp Lejeune. Preliminary action will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday with two sessions per day, beginning at noon and 6 p.m., at the Field House. Semifinal action will be contested on Thursday at noon and the event will conclude with final round competition at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Both male and female boxers will compete in the Junior National Championships, and all of the young women will have even greater motivation following the IOC’s decision to add women’s boxing to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. Action will take place in the 17 male weight divisions and 18 female weight divisions with the boxers competing in three, two-minute rounds.

Tickets for the 2010 USA Boxing Junior National Championships are only $5 and will be available for purchase at the door. Kids under 12 will be admitted free of charge to the event.

USA Boxing’s junior program is a critical developmental pipeline for the organization and has consistently produced future Olympians and professional world champions. The 2010 event will be the 39th Junior National Championships in the program’s storied history.

The full regional rosters for the tournament will be released next week upon the completion of all the regional qualifying tournaments.

Tuesday, June 15 – Preliminary round bouts (Noon and 6 p.m.)

Wednesday, June 16 – Quarterfinal round bouts (Noon and 6 p.m.)

Thursday, June 17 – Semifinal bouts (Noon)

Friday, June 18 – Championship bouts (11:30 a.m.)
