One week after her rematch with Holly Holm, Chevelle Hallback and her trainer Sherman Henson discuss the fight and what they’ve got in store for the rest of 2010.
“I was welcomed really warmly to Albuquerque by the fans and everyone I met,” Chevelle said. “As for the fight, I did do more this time, and felt the fight was much closer than the judges scored it.. Holly never hurt me, but she had a good game plan and I let myself get frustrated by her movement, which resulted in me not throwing enough punches to put her away, especially when I had her hurt several times. People say she doesn’t come to fight, that she comes to run, but at the end of the day, she won the fight, and at THIS time, she is the pound for pound best. But- in saying that, I want to let my fans know I am not going anywhere and maybe somewhere down the line, there will be a fight #3 with me and Holly. Trainer Sherman Henson added remarks of his own about the fight. “Chevelle showed Holly what the extra strength training with me and Torsten Kanzmeier did for her, and condition wise, she was where she needed to be. Even though she didn’t keep the pressure on Holly enough to take her all the way out, she did show other fighters the perfect game plan to follow and beat Holly Holm.
Albuquerque fight fans and press agree this time Chevelle displayed a greater activity rate than in her previous fight with Holly, and that the scored earned by Holly Holm were somewhat at odds with the ring action. pacaveli21: “as an Albueurque native, I’m so sad to hear that fighters (from elsewhere) are not getting a fair shot….as I seen last night at my first Holly Holm fight. Holly did less than Chevelle yet still won by a lot. Fresquez Productions hype is not real, but for a good theater show where the white knight always wins it’s worth the $25 tickets.
plod78@pacaveli21: THANK YOU! I also am an Albuquerque native and attend the fight Friday night. I TOTALLY agree with you the scores were ridiculous. Chevelle did do more than Holly in this fight and even knocked her down ( if it wasn’t for the ropes that stopped her fall). Holly on the other hand PUSHED Hallback down TWICE. I had Chevelle winning this fight. Much RESPECT to her.
Rick Wright, Albuquerque Journal: While absorbing some of the hardest shots she has taken in her eight year professional career, she (Holly Holm) withstood the challenge of a determined Hallback to take a victory by unanimous, deceptively lopsided 10 round decision. The judges scorecards read 99-91, 98-92, 98-92 all for Holm. But Holm agreed despite her similar dominance on the cards, this bout was far more difficult than her May 2007 victory over Hallback.
Chevelle Hallback won’t be idle waiting for the fights to come to her. Already her team is mulling over fight offers and looking forward to making 2010 the busiest year in her career. “I said it at the first of the year, and I ‘ll say it again,” Chevelle repeated. “I will fight anyone from 135-147, and even though I lost to Holly, it’s only a small setback. I’m back to the drawing board with my trainer Sherman Henson, and we’re still on the road to HBO.”
