Over 12,000 tickets have been sold for the upcoming Miguel Cotto vs Joshua Clottey showdown at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, June 13. “Fight fans know how great of a fight this really is,” said Bob Arum. “We are expecting to sell out the Garden.” Cotto, at his Media Day in Tampa yesterday, described the hard-punching Clottey as “…a real warrior.” Clottey has been training in Fernwood, Pa. which is in the Poconos. Cotto will arrive into New York on Friday, June 5 to begin his final preparations for the fight. “There is talk of a Pacquiao fight for me,” said Cotto. “That is talk. Right now, my focus is on Clottey..”
Burgos Faces Gusev For Title On June 12
Seen by many fight insiders as a future world champion, featherweight Juan Carlos Burgos has been living up to the hype each time he steps into the ring. But on Friday, June 12th, he will face a young fighter in Vyacheslav Gusev who is on the same path, and when the bell rings at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California, there will be fireworks as the two battle it out for the WBC CABOFE featherweight title in the main event of Thompson Boxing Promotions’ “New Blood IV”.

The nephew of former world champion Victor Burgos, Juan Carlos Burgos (21-0, 15 KOs) has been carving out his own niche in the competitive pro boxing world. Just 21 years old, the Tijuana native has already compiled 21 wins without a loss, and with each fight, he is seemingly getting better and better. Fresh from a second round TKO of Fernando Lizarraga in February, in which he won the vacant WBC CABOFE title and ascended to the #3 position of the WBC ratings, Burgos is ready for his biggest challenge yet in Vyacheslav Gusev (16-1, 3 KOs). Hailing from Prokopyevsk, Russia, the 23-year old has already earned the Russian, WBA Intercontinental, and WBO intercontinental titles while showing his maturity by going the 12 round distance twice. On June 12th, he hopes to add another title belt to his trophy case by beating Burgos.
In the co-main event, Riverside’s own Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (10-0, 5 KOs) returns to his home away from home at the Doubletree (where he is 6-0) to take on Los Mochis, Mexico, spoiler Luis Alfredo Lugo (10-8-1, 6 KO) in a ten round bout for the WBC / USNBC welterweight crown. It’s Herrera’s first ten rounder and first title fight, and after his fifth round TKO of William Correa in April, he’s ready for the step-up against Lugo, who best fight was a draw against prospect Mike Dallas Jr.
Also featured on the June 12th bill will be a six round featherweight showdown between Vista’s Aaron Garcia (9-1, 2 KOs) and Huntington Park’s unbeaten Jesus “Pollo” Hernandez (8-0, 2 KOs). Garcia, a former amateur star who won the 2003 US amateur title and two National Golden Gloves championships, is returning to the ring for the first time since his win over Gabe Garcia last September. The 20-year old Hernandez, a native of Los Mochis, Mexico, has been on a streak that he hopes to continue against Garcia.
In undercard action, Pomona’s Ignacio Garcia (2-1-1) returns in a four round jr. welterweight match against Marlo Cortez (2-7-1, 1 KO), Alberto Herrera (1-0, 1 KO) and DeMarcus Stephens (1-0) meet in a four round junior middleweight clash of unbeatens, and in the four round lightweight opener, Indio’s Miguel Uronia takes on Pacoima’s Oscar Chinchilla in a battle of pro debutants.

Glendale, California (May 22, 2009) – Undefeated former amateur star Stan “The Man” Martyniouk (6 wins, no losses) has been added to the historic GLENDALE GLORY boxing show on Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium.
“Stan The Man” is coming off a six round unanimous decision over Jovann Jones (9-4, 4KOs) on March 27th. The former Team U.S.A. member and #2 ranked amateur lightweight in the U.S. in 2005, Martyniouk joins fellow Bash Boxing stablemates Dean “Irish Lightning” Byrne (10-0, 4 KOs), “Mad” Max Skayzer (6-0-1, 1KO), and 23-year-old Heavyweight prospect Andrey “The Russian Bear” Fedosov (19-1, 15KOs) on the GLENDALE GLORY card.
GLENDALE GLORY is presented by Art of Boxing Promotions in association with Bash Boxing, and is the first professional boxing show following a 62-year-old ban on boxing in the City of Glendale.
