David Haye Admits He’s Getting Worried That His Big Fight Against Klitschko Will Not Happen

by James Slater – The negotiations and the contract for the fight were, in the words of David Haye’s trainer and manager Adam Booth last week, “being bounced back and forth between the two camps,” but we are still no closer, it seems, to an official announcement regarding the much-talked about Wladimr Klitschko-David Haye fight..

A few days back, it seemed the fight would almost certainly happen in London on June 20th, but now, due to the clock ticking with no real progress being made, doubts are beginning to creep in as to whether the title fight will actually happen at all – not least in the mind of the prospective challenger himself.

Haye has admitted, in an interview with the South London Press, that he is starting to get a touch anxious, and that he was a lot more optimistic about getting his bout against “Dr. Steel Hammer” a couple of weeks ago. Will the fight happen? Haye hopes so, naturally.

“I was a lot more confident about the fight happening two weeks ago than I am now,” Haye said. “I think the two brothers are not the warriors they claim to be. They don’t want the biggest and best fights out there – they want to hand pick their opponents. It’s fair enough, but they obviously aren’t worried about the legacy they leave behind.”

This is quite an attack by “The Hayemaker” on the two heavyweight champion brothers, but does he have a point? Why the delay in Wladimir announcing who he will be meeting next? After all, June 20th is only just over four months away; wouldn’t a Klitschko-Haye clash require at least a few month’s of build-up? And the IBF and WBO king must know who he’s fighting next by now – with fellow prospective challenger Chris Arreola now having an April 11th date on the cards.

It was going to be Haye or Arreola for Klitschko next, so come on, Wladimir, let your fans know what’s happening!

Haye did mention in the news article that unless he hears some solid news that tells him he will get the big opportunity he so craves, he will be forced to plan an alternative fight, and soon. It sure would be a crying shame if the most exciting heavyweight out there did not get a fight with at least one of the two Klitschko brothers, wouldn’t it?
