Kiko Martinez just may be the most dangerous fighter in Europe and the Spanish Bomber is coming back to England this month to take back what he says is rightfully his. The 22 year old detonation artist from Alicante, Spain has a rematch with British southpaw Rendall Munroe on February 27 and Martinez has vowed that the Metrodome in Barnsley will see his return to the European title..
Martinez won the super bantamweight crown in August, 2007 in devastating fashion when he walked into Bernard Dunne’s hometown of Dublin and crushed the Irish hero in one single brutal round.
But the reign of “La Sensacion” was short-circuited in March, 2008 by cagey Leicester speed merchant Munroe, who expertly picked the Spaniard’s pocket via a razor-thin majority decision that still infuriates Martinez.
While Munroe has gone on to three high profile European title defenses, Martinez has grafted away from the spotlight against little known opponents and has been plotting his revenge on the Englishman ever since.
Martinez will get the opportunity to redress the situation on Friday, February 27 and has no intention of leaving the outcome of his rematch with Munroe to the judges in what promises to be an incendiary display.
Frank Maloney Promotions presents Rendall Munroe vs. Kiko Martinez for the Super Bantamweight Championship of Europe with full supporting undercard at the Metrodome in Barnsley, England on Friday, February 27, 2009.
Tickets are priced at £75 and £35 and are available by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0871 226 1508.
Sky Sports will televise the action live on SS1 starting at 10PM.
Francisco “The Wizard” Palacios First Title Defense!
By Christopher Rivera
After his second round K.O. mauling of Luis Pineda in Panama back in September, Puerto Rican Francisco “The Wizard” Palacios (16-0, 9 K.O.’s) is finally set to defend his W.B.A. Fedelatin Cruiserweight title in an eleven round bout. His opponent is experienced veteran, Lawrence Chapman (19-5-2, 13 K.O.’s). The fight will be on the upcoming February 14th, “St. Valentine’s Massacre” card which includes featured bouts Ricardo Mayorga vs. Alfredo Angulo, Nate Campbell Vs. Ali Funeka, & Sergio Gabriel Martinez Vs. Kermit Cintron at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Palacios, a long time resident of Florida, says he is excited to have both friends and family in attendance. “Last time I fought at the Hard Rock vs. Azzile, I fought as the challenger on super short notice. Now I am the champ with time for me and my trainers (Josue Aguilar and Gil Maldonado) to prepare. I get another opportunity to make believers out of everybody in the area. My people already know the show I am about to put on.” Coincidently, his original T.K.O. upset fight versus Louis Azille in August 2007 was turned down by Chapman leaving Palacios to think how fate has gotten him to this point.
Even though Chapman has been idle, fighting only twice in a two and half year span, Palacios is cautiously approaching this with one result in mind,… a Win. “Down the road, I await world title eliminators and title fights, but right now Lawrence is where all my concentration is focused. He has many years under is belt and will not be taken lightly,” says “The Wizard”. Professionally he understands that the maturity of his career is by taking each challenge one fight at a time and not to think ahead.
Chapman’s career is ten plus years through an array of weight classes. He has fought in super middle, light heavy and now cruiserweight. Further, he has fought for three super middleweight titles during his tenure. He is deemed a tall fighter at 6’3’’ , complemented by a long reach. Palacios’s and Chapman’s styles, experience and showmanship will prove to be a great fight for the fans. They will be an exciting warm up for the crowd as the following fights aforementioned will be televised on H.B.O..
Tickets priced at $200, $75, $40 and $25 (with all seats 2-for-1 excepting a limited number of golden circle seats) are on sale and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone at (800) 745-3000, by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at the BankAtlantic Center box office.

Local favorite Kyle Sherman (10-1, 6 KOs) will fight in a scheduled eight round bout with the rugged boxer Brad Hill, who is traveling from Arkansas to fight Sherman. The fight between Sherman and Hill is anticipated to be very exciting, as Hill has been predicting a knock out of Sherman.
The renowned former OKC Blazer, heavyweight Ron Aubrey (3-2, 3 KOs), returns to Remington Park to fight June Brown. And Heavyweight Ty Cobb (3-0, 3 KOs) from Wichita Falls, Texas, will be fighting Shawn Dismukes from Moore, Oklahoma. Veteran Mike Dodds (10-18) will also be fighting.
Rounding out the card is undefeated super featherweight Shadi Hamsho (9-0), known to many as the flashy fighter with flare, from Los Angeles (via Sweden). Hamsho will be boxing veteran fighter Chris Hill. Hill has been in the ring with some of the best in the world and the scheduled six rounder between Hamsho and Hill should be quite a fight.
CatBOX is also happy to announce that Tracy Thomas will enter the ring as announcer. Tracy is the very popular afternoon DJ of KXY Radio (96.1FM).
And before the Main Event, Oklahoma’s own Darla Z will sing the National Anthem, accompanied by violinist Gena Alexander.
