Suge Green’s Boxing Notebook: Margarito, Morrison, Shea, Boswell, Klitschko

Shane MosleyBy Suge Green – February 1st 2009 – As the Margarito hand-wrap saga continues, Antonio finds his trainer Javier Capetillo, along with himself suspended “pending the outcome of an investigation,” by the California State Athletic Commission. The material found in the hand-wrap, has been obtained and bagged by the California State Dept. of Justice, for review. The public however has not been slow to speculate, and already parallels are being drawn between this Margarito situation and, the infamous Resto vs. Collins Jr. bout of yesteryear. Now all of Margo’s recent victories are being called into question…some reason is called for here though, waiting until the evidence is properly reviewed is key to justice being served. There should be plenty of time in the future for the public to cast the stones that are already being hurled.

The Tommy Morrison fight happened in Laramie, Wyoming despite local fighter and promoter Corey Williams being contacted by “The U.S. Attorney, the F.B.I., the U.S Federal Marshall, and the City & County (officials &attorneys). This fight is not being stopped.” said Williams.. Well, not exactly…it was stopped in the 1st round, when “The Duke” scored a devastating knockout. Morrison KO1 Williams. The Tommy “The Duke” Morrison comeback continues. Morrison’s victory over Williams was not seen live on GFL PPV as planned due to technical difficulties, but they plan to have the recording available for Tommy’s fans to view at gofightlive.tv. Tommy vows to be more active in ’09.

Heavyweight contender Cedric “The Bos” Boswell says nobody will step up and fight him since he stopped the formerly undefeated Roman Greenberg. Boswell even tried to get a fight with the hard hitting Chris Arreola, but so far he has had trouble grabbing hold of the spotlight. Cedric, 28 (22)-1 feels isn’t getting any younger, and is preparing to do whatever it takes to get into place for a title shot in ’09. Fres Oquendo is one of the fighters who could be on the horizon for him in the near future.

Maureen Shea is getting her shot at the WBA Womens World Super Featherweight Championship. The OnTheGrind Radio team wishes her the best. Her opponent for the vacant title was yet to be named as we go to press, however the fight has been picked up for Top Ranks under-card of Cotto-Jennings, and will be viewable live on the internet prior to the televised portion of the event.

Ever wonder if boxers are aware of their most devoted and obsessed fans…??? Certain fighters for some reason strike a nerve deep in the psyche of individuals known for such flagrant fandom. Margarito has his “Margo Marks (‘The most feared man in boxing’),” Cotto his “Cotto Queens (‘He didn’t quit’),”…the most notorious of this current crop of active boxer’s fans, the ones who give crying Michael Jackson fans a run for their money, are the infamous KLIT-ites of the brothers Klitschko.

I recently had the opportunity to ask a member of Wladamir’s team if the champ knows about his rabid and often times deluded, and mentally challenged fans. Here was the team members reply…
“Yes he does. We had a guy run up to us in Germany (the security almost killed him) but be showed us his chest…’KLITSCHKO’ tattooed across it…we were all in shock. We laugh about it all the time. Fans, stalkers, haters…we have seen it all”

I’m not surprised.
