Boxing News: Jimmy Lange, Fallon Boxing Card, 11th Annual Battle of the Badges at Pechanga

FAIRFAX, VA (August 18, 2008) — After being sidelined with an injury over the last 17 months, popular Northern Virginia boxer Jimmy Lange (28-3-2, 20 KOs) will return to action by headlining a live, professional boxing card on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. The event, produced by Ice Promotions and headed by Jackie “First Lady of Boxing” Kallen, marks the fighter’s sixth appearance at his hometown venue..

Lange has fully recovered from surgery to a shoulder injury that occurred in the first round of his May 12, 2007 World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental America’s 154-pound title fight against Fontaine Cabell. Due to his inability to box during the long layoff, Lange voluntarily relinquished his championship belt which is now held by Julio César Chávez Jr., oldest son of legendary three-time world champion Julio César Chávez, who won the title in an elimination bout on February 9, 2008.

“I look forward to regaining the momentum from my last fight and continuing my quest to become a world champion,” said Lange. “I feel physically stronger than ever, fully recovered from the surgery and ready to step back into the ring at the Patriot Center this fall.”

Next month Lange heads down to Vero Beach, Florida to begin his regular, six-week boxing training session with head trainer James “Buddy” McGirt in preparation for the November 1st fight.

Lange’s opponent has not yet been secured for the fight card which will feature five to six additional bouts.

A native of Arlington, Virginia and a Bishop O’Connell High School graduate, Lange has headlined all five professional boxing events at the Patriot Center on the George Mason University campus, including the sport’s debut at the arena on September 17, 2005. The junior middleweight drew national attention as a participant on the first season (2005) of the NBC boxing reality program, The Contender, and possesses an impressive 28-3-2 (20 KOs) record.

Fallon Boxing Card Shaping Up for August 29th!

With less than two weeks to go, the principals for History In The Making – Fallon Night of Fights are lining up.

Tyler Hinkey (4-0-1 3 KOs), who is coming off of an explosive first-round knockout in Reno this June will be facing Christopher “Da Future” Green (4-3-1 3KOs) from Denver, CO. Green, who is six-foot five-inches, is a talented and powerful pugilist. He is looking forward to getting back in the ring after a seventeen month long absence. Green lost his last fight, but fought to a controversial draw against the popular hometown fighter Sklyer Anderson in Idaho in March of 2007. With eight professional fights, Green is the more experienced pro going into August 29th.

Tyler’s older, but smaller, brother Derek (5-1 5KOs) was originally set to fight Rodrigo Aguiar (5-4) of Las Vegas, but on Friday Aguiar injured one of his hands during a bout in against Simon Ruvalcaba of Lake Tahoe. Aguire won that bout, but will be unable to fight Hinkey in Fallon. A replacement for Hinkey is being arranged. Hinkey is coming off of an impressive sixth-round TKO over the previously undefeated Gabriel Gil of Madera, CA in June.

Both of the Hinkey brothers’ bouts are scheduled for six rounds.

In the six-round co-feature bout, Carson City’s own Michael Peralta (4-2 1 KO) will be facing Khadaphi Proctor (2-2-1) of Hesperia, CA. Peralta is coming off of a six-round unanimous decision over the previously undefeated prospect Javier Garcia in May. Peralta is sitting on three straight wins and is looking to make it four in Fallon.

The Mongolian boxing sensation Batkhuu “Batman” Otgonchuluun is returning to Northern Nevada after his third-round technical knockout over Omar Valencia in Reno earlier this year. Batman is set to face David Springer (0-0-3) of Las Vegas.

Also added to the under card of History in the Making is Andrew Remp – cousin of WBC USNBC super-middleweight champion Jesse Brinkley. Remp, a 2005 Yerington High School graduate, has had a short but successful amateur career. He will be making his professional debut as a lightweight against Marcos Gonzales from Las Vegas. This will also be the professional debut for Gonzales.

The talented and experienced Theron DeLorme from Reno will be throwing his hat into the professional ring on August 29th as well. With over 150 amateur bouts, the 26-year-old Delorme is taking a wealth of boxing knowledge and ability with him as he prepares to become the future of professional boxing in his hometown. DeLorme is scheduled for a four-round bout against Manny Cotrich (0-1) from Las Vegas.

Mark “The Italian Bazooka” DeLuca is no longer able to fight on the 29th due to a shoulder injury suffered during his training camp. His replacement will be the very popular Anthony Lenk (3-0 2 KOs) who is originally from Northern California, but now lives and trains in Las Vegas. Lenk campaigns as a Jr. Welterweight. His opponent will be finalized within the next few days.

This historic night of boxing is part of Fallon’s Centennial Celebration and will kick off the city’s annual Cantaloupe Festival.
