Marco Huck: “I have something to prove”

Marco HuckMarco Huck is confident he will win the vacant IBF intercontinental cruiserweight title against Frantisek Kasanic (12-2, 12 KOs) on Saturday night. “I will make the most of this opportunity,” the 23-year-old (20-1, 15 KOs) said at today´s press conference. “But the task will be harder than one might think. Kasanic has defeated two very strong opponents in his last fights.”

The former EU champion knows he has something to prove. “I want to show everyone that I can box well,” Captain Huck added. “I will prove that I can fight cleverly as far as the tactics are concerned.” Fittingly, coach Ulli Wegner has focused on Huck´s tactical abilities in the last couple of weeks. “It will be key for him to stick to the game plan,” Wegner stated. “Then he will return to old strength. I noticed that he has tried very hard in practice, which is very good. And I have to admit that I am a little bit nervous, too.” Wegner was happy to coach the gifted cruiserweight again. “For me the most important thing is that he feels comfortable with me,” the star coach added. “I have always been convinced of his talent.”

Saturday will be a busy night for Wegner who will also coach Alexander Frenkel (14-0, 10 KOs) in his IBF youth cruiserweight title fight against Cory Phelps. “Alexander is ready for this title,” Wegner stated. “He might not have a huge amateur background but he is fresh and, if he gives 100 percent, he has a big career ahead.” Frenkel also voiced his optimism. “I am looking forward to the fight,” he said. “But the tension is growing with every day. I have watched Phelps´ fights on tape. He is very good but I will be prepared for everything.” The 24-year-old American will also enter the fight with a lot of confidence. “Frenkel has shown some good performances but I will find the right tools to beat him.”

Also in action will be WBC youth heavyweight champion Francesco Pianeta (15-0, 9 KOs), who defends his title against Michael Marrone. Furthermore, Scandinavian beauty Cecilia Braekhus (6-0, 2 KOs) will take on Adelita Irizarry. “I am ready and have worked hard for this fight,” the 26-year-old First Lady stated.
