TACOMA, WA — Eric Fields was scheduled to fight on the “Battle At The Boat” boxing card at the Emerald Queen Casino on January 19, 2008 against Donnell Wiggins (24-9-3, 14KOs) when the call came a week ago offering a fight against former World Champion Kelvin Davis (24-8-2, 17KOs). “We didn’t blink an eye – we wanted this fight and we wanted to showcase Eric on National TV”, said Fields’ promoter Brian Halquist.
“The only problem was he was already scheduled to fight, so we found a replacement fighter and the rest will be history”.
Fields’ first punch on his first nationally televised fight hit the former World Champion and sent him to the canvas. Davis got back on his feet and Fields finished the former World Champion with a barrage of punches at 55 seconds in round one. “Whit (Whitfield Haydon, Fields’ Manager) and I received over 60 calls from the time the fight ended to the time we arrived in Seattle 16 hours later,” Halquist said. “I’ve never had a response even close to this with a fighter. Man, is it exciting!”
Eric Fields is a throwback fighter. He doesn’t care who he fights. “I leave all the business to my manager and promoter. My job is to come and fight. That’s what I do,” said Fields. “Eric is going to earn what’s coming to him in this game. He is a pleasure to work with,” said Whitfield Haydon.
The future looks bright for Eric Fields. Haydon and Halquist say that Fields will fight at Cruiserweight for the time being, but eventually will be at Heavyweight. Fields is scheduled to fight April 12, 2008 at the “Battle At The Boat 64” show at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma.
“Time will tell, but I honestly believe that Eric will be the biggest attraction in the Heavyweight division since Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis,” said Halquist. “Time is on our side.” TIME WILL TELL.
