Promoters Art Pelullo/Banner Promotions, River Rock Casino Resort, and West Coast Promotions will present a sensational fight card on Friday, December 28, 2007, in the River Rock Show Theatre at River Rock Casino Resort, located at 8811 River Road in Richmond, British Colombia. This event will be the first telecast of the 2008 boxing season on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights”..
The heavyweight main event, scheduled for 10 rounds, will feature young, undefeated prospect Alonzo “Big Zo” Butler, 26-0-1 with 19 knockouts, of Knoxville, Tennessee, stepping up against his toughest opponent yet – Dominick “The Southern Disaster” Guinn, 28-5-1 with 19 knockouts, of Houston, Texas.
There’s a lot at stake for both heavyweights: Butler is trying to prove himself for the first time at world-class level; Guinn is looking for a win that will lead him back to his former status as a top contender.
Butler and Guinn both stand six-foot three-inches tall, but come from very different boxing backgrounds. Now 28 years old, Butler has “learned on the job” as a pro. He had very little amateur experience – 13 fights by his own count – but has given impressive performances and made good progress in his seven-year pro career.
32 year-old Guinn had a tremendous amateur career with over 300 fights that included gold medals in four U.S. national championships. He also has a significant advantage over Butler in professional experience, with wins to his credit against 2000 Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison and former contenders Michael Grant and Duncan Dokiwari. Dominick has five losses, but all were against world-class fighters and all were by decision – two against world champions James Toney and Sergei Liakhovich, the other three against top contenders Eddie Chambers, Tony Thompson, and Monte Barrett.
Local heavyweight standout Shane “Shotgun” Andreesen, 9-0 with 5 knockouts, of Qualicum Beach, B.C., will battle Corey Williams, 7-8-2 with 4 knockouts, of Torrington, Wyo., in a six-round bout.
Five more exciting supporting bouts, to be announced, are scheduled to complete the card. All bouts are subject to change without notice.
