A rematch between Evander Holyfield and George Foreman!

By Geoffrey Ciani: As I aimlessly browsed the web this morning, carelessly reading through the morning headlines, I was shocked to discover boxing news of a forthcoming rematch between former champions George Foreman and Evander Holyfield. Now I know, some of you are probably thinking this is a joke. After all, it has been over sixteen years since these two first squared off. Why would these two ever decide to do battle again, especially since Evander Holyfield has an upcoming title bout and Foreman has not fought in over a decade? The rematch I speak of is not going to take place inside the squared circle. Instead, this is a battle that is going to take place in the marketplace of the grills.

Okay, so I guess the term “rematch” is a tad misleading.

Evander Holyfield is preparing to unveil the Evander Holyfield Real Deal Grill. This, of course, is intended to be a direct competitor to the famous George Foreman Grill (also known as the George Foreman Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine).

Since its introduction in 1995, the George Foreman Grill has sold over 100 million units. The grill, which is said to “knockout the fat”, has earned Foreman a whopping $150 million—that sum is considerably more money than he earned throughout his entire boxing career.

Holyfield himself is the owner of a George Foreman Grill. “I’ve got a Foreman Grill”, said the former four-time heavyweight champion of the world. “It’s a good grill, but don’t you think the latest grill is supposed to be the best grill?”

In order to promote his grill, Holyfield dons an apron in a 30-minute infomercial, much in the same way “Big” George originally advertised his grill. The infomercial began airing last week. The grill costs approximately $100 USD.

Will the Real Deal Grill be as successful as its predecessor, The Foreman Grill? Only time will tell.

In the end, I can’t help being reminded of a great quote allegedly attributed to former boxing champion, Larry Holmes: “You don’t need to use a Foreman Grill; you can just tilt the pan.”
