By Per Ake Persson: March 24, Copenhagen- Danish WBA (superchamp) and WBC supermiddle boxing king Mikkel Kessler won every round against steel chinned and tough challenger Librado Andrade at the Parken sport Arena tonight. All three judges scored the fight 120-108 for Kessler. There were no knockdowns but how Andrade could stay upright after taking volumes of hard, precise punches is anybody´s guess. Kessler´s nose kept bleeding but never seemed to bother him. He moved well, created openings and followed up on them putting on an outstanding performance..
It was a one-sided boxing fight but an exciting one made exciting by Andrade´s steady attack and the volumes of punches he threw. Kessler threw less punches but most of – if not all – quality punches came from him. Andrade was stunned in the fourth and it seemed as if he wouldn´t be able to keep up the enourmous pace he had set – but from somewhere he found the stength to keep going and while he was hit hard numerous times he was never hurt.
In the eleventh, Kessler traded with Andrade for the first time and got the better of the exchanges and in the final round, both went for broke and Andrade was in trouble but kept punching to the cheers of the crowd.
Kessler is now 39-0 and already a superstar at home. Andrade lost for the first time and is now 24-1.
Lolenga Mock retained the EU supermiddle title with a ninth round stoppage of Belgian Djamel Selini. Mock wore down Selini with a steady attack and floored him in the ninth and it was stopped.
Highly ranked jr middle Reda Zam Zam, 23-0 going in, was caught, hurt and floored twice by Venezuelan Carlos Donquiz, 13-6 going in, in the very first round. Zam Zam has always relied on reflexes, kept his hands down, got caught and Donquiz followed up.
Welter Thomas Damgaard returned and knocked out Belgian Jean Louis Bryla in the second with a big southpaw left.
Big heavyweight Claus Bertino walked into a left hook from Portugese Umberto Evora and was knocked out in the third.
Middleweight Thomas Povlsen was officially on the floor once and hurt three times during his six-rounder against Rafael Chiruta and looked lucky to get the points win in the boxing match.
Female jr welter Vinni Skovgaard outscored Eunice Miranda over four.
