Clampitt Surgery A Success!

NARRAGANSETT, RI — Two-time world champion Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt has announced that the surgery performed on her right hand three weeks ago at the Lahey Clinic, was a complete success and she is now hoping for a 2007 return to the ring, as long as her hand heals completely.

“It feels good,” said Clampitt. “I can move it well. Obviously I cannot hit anything for 2-3 months, but it is feeling good. I am not going to jump the gun and say I will be back and when, but as long as the healing process goes well and I feel it is 100% than I am pretty sure I will be back in the ring next year sometime.”

For Clampitt, this is the second hand surgery she has had to endure. Last December, Jaime had the pisaform bone removed from her left hand, an injury that shelved her for nearly a year. This most recent problem occurred early on her last bout on May 18th, and now she and her doctors are confident that the problem will not come back.

“We all hope this does the trick,” said Clampitt. “I have the best hand doctor in the world in Dr. Steven Margles. He is confident that this surgery will do the trick and I am looking forward to trying to use it again.”

Despite being out of action inside the ring, Clampitt has been quite active on the outside. She has been training numerous fighters, one of which, Karen Dulin, recently captured the Rocky Marciano Tournament Championship. In addition, she has been working hard at training fighters for an upcoming amateur show she is promoting in memory of her late trainer Tiny Ricci. That event takes place on Saturday, October 28th at the historic Columbus Theatre in Providence, RI.

“We are excited about this show,” said Jaime, who is hoping to raise enough money to add a shower at her gym, R.I. Boxing. “There is a buzz about the show and everyone wants to fight on it. Tiny was a great guy and I just hope everyone turns out as it will be an exciting event.”

In addition to the upcoming event, and her surgery, Clampitt graces the cover of Rhode Island’s largest magazine, Rhode Island Monthly, in the edition on newsstands now. The Rhode Island Monthly is Rhode Island’s lifestyle magazine, bringing readers the very best of what Rhode Island has to offer. It reaches more than 200,000 upscale, educated, influential readers throughout the United States. Also, Jaime and her husband Ted Panagiotis, will be featured in this week’s Newport Mercury, in a feature story on how Jaime is training Ted for his first fight on the Oct. 28th event.
