02.08.06 – Cappiello Promotions brings professional boxing back to the Roxy in Boston, Friday, August 11, for the first time since promoting an ESPN 2 Friday Night Fights’ card there on St. Patrick’s day. “It’s going to be great to promote another professional boxing event at The Roxy;” Promoter Rich Cappiello stated. “It really is one of the best smaller-sized venues you could ever attend, to see a fight.. There’s not a bad seat in the house, and the balcony seats are so close you are almost right on top of the ring.”
The seven-bout card will feature some terrific local talent, to include some up and coming prospects, in four and six round fight. “Right now I’m in between televised shows, and shows that I promote at the casino’s, and as a promoter you have to keep your fighters active. That’s what this card is all about;” says Cappiello. They’re only going to be four and six round fights, but anyone that knows boxing knows they are typically the most action packed bouts on any card. August 11, fight-fans will have the opportunity to see seven such fights in one evening, at a terrific venue!”
Former Massachusetts cruiserweight champion, Tim “The Hammer Flamos (17-2-1, 7 KO’s) will square off against Hillsborough, NC’s “Hollywood” Eric Starr (14-26-3, 4 KO’s) in the evening’s main event.
In the co-feature bout, action-packed Massachusetts’s cruiserweight prospect Chris McInerney (4-0-1, 3 KO’s) takes on veteran journeyman Mike Bonislawski (18-21-2, 4 KO’s). In his last fight at the Roxy, McInerny fought to a four-round draw with Anterio Vines in a four-round ESPN televised swing bout, in one of the most exciting fights ever to take place at the Roxy.
Vietnamese featherweight Dat Nguyen (3-0, 1 KO), via Maui, Hawaii, highlights the undercard against Detroit pro-debuter Rasool Shakoor. Nguyen is a becoming a heavily touted prospect, who is trained by one of boxing’s best, Buddy McGirt, in Vero Beach, FL. “This kid has a tremendous amount of potential, and he’s already off to the right start, in that he’s being trained by former world champion Buddy McGirt;” says Cappiello. “It’s going to be a real treat for local boxing fans to have the chance to watch Dat!”
Rhode Island super-middleweight Angel Camacho (1-0, 1 KO) makes his second professional ring appearance against Boston’s Lagene Richardson (0-3), in a four-round event. In his pro-debut, on June 17 at Mohegan Sun Casino, Camacho scored a devastating first round TKO victory over Louisiana pro-debuter Phillip Lars, despite the fact that he took the fight on less than a days notice.
Boston cruiserweight Carlos Lovato (2-1, 2 KO’s) takes on pro debuter Frank White, in a four round bout. After losing by decision in his pro debut, Lovato has scored consecutive second-round knockout victories, in his past two fights at Mohegan Sun Casino.
Also, fellow Bostonians, Tony Lamonica (1-0) squares off against Ohio’s Anthony Whigham (0-4) in a four round junior welterweight fight, while Jon Stven Parker (0-1) takes on Connecticut’s Robert Irizarry (0-2) in heavyweight action.
Doors to the event open at 5:30, with the first fight slated to begin at 7:00.
