WBO Champ Hugo Cazares Puts His Title on the Line Against Domingo Guillen

23.06.06 – Duck or be doomed because on Friday, June 30th, the punches will be flying as the current WBO Light Flyweight titleholder will risk his belt in a world championship match at Desert Diamond Casino’s Diamond Center. As part of a continued partnership between Desert Diamond Casino and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, a true fight night returns to Southern Arizona with a seven-bout fight card..

Making an audience appearance that night will be Mexico’s boxing legend, Marco Antonio Barrera. This event will be televised on TeleFutura. Tickets for the fight are on sale now and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations, by calling 520-321-1000, contacting the Desert Diamond Casino Box Office, or by visiting www.desertdiamondcasino.com. Prices range from $25 to $100 in advance. Doors open at 6:00 P.M.; first fight begins at 7:00 P.M.

It’s hard to forget current WBO champion, Hugo Cazares (22-3-1 16 KOs), after his October 29th World Boxing Cup appearance at the Diamond Center where he took on and took out Thailand’s Kaichon Sor Vorapin to retain his title. After mercilessly wearing down Sor Vorapin, Cazares ended the match in round six when he floored Sor Vorapin with a devastating knockout punch. Hailing from Los Mochis, Mexico, this southpaw is returning to Desert Diamond Casino to defend his world title for the third time.

Dominican Republic’s Domingo Guillen (36-7-1 33 KOs) has a game plan of his own: win and win by knock-out. No stranger to title fights, Guillen has been boxing professionally for fifteen years. Ranked number six by the WBO, Guillen is guaranteed to step up, unphased and indifferent to Cazares’s résumé. A first-timer to Southern Arizona, this WBO champion hopeful has the lethal punch to send Cazares back to Mexico defeated and broken.

The co-main event, a ten round light welterweight match, features Mexico’s Arturo “El Silencioso” Morua (23-7-1 13 KOs), taking on Costa Rica’s Lenin Arroyo (15-4-1 2 KOs). Morua’s latest showing was at the casino’s March 10th event where he became the WBO Intercontinental Light Welterweight titleholder against the dangerous and unorthodox Emanuel Augustus. Described by opponents as ruthless in the ring, Morua will unleash it all on Lenin Arroyo. But don’t count Arroyo out. An aggressor himself, he’ll attempt to turn the table as he goes on the offensive.

The undercard bouts will include several up and coming fighters including Phoenix’s Juan Garcia (8-0 2 KOs), Las Vegas’s Lonnie Smith (1-0-1 1 KO), and Mexico’s Juan Esquer (12-0 10 KOs), Cristobal Lopez (10-3), Raul Montes (4-9) and highly regarded Gregorio Torres (1-0 1 KO) from Nogales, SO, MX.

Treena Parvello, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise, commented, “Desert Diamond Casino is excited to be hosting another world championship fight at the Diamond Center. Hugo Cazares gave a great performance back in October and we can’t wait to see what he has planned next.”
