24.08.05 – ORANGE, CA – Two hard-hitting punchers collide this Friday night in what should turn out to be a real barnburner. Former world title challenger Carlos Bojorquez will step back inside the ring to face “Dangerous” Ryan Davis at Omega Products International in Corona in a 10 round junior middleweight bout.
The fight will headline a sold out “Path to Glory” card, presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions.
This will be Bojorquez’ second fight since losing a hard fought bout at the hands of Joachim Alcine in Montreal, last February. In his last bout, Bojorquez scored a seventh round knock out over Jose Luis Cruz in June 2005.
Bojorquez is no stranger to some of the top fighters in his weight class. Last year, he fought IBF junior middleweight champion Verno Phillips with less than a week’s notice, Bojorquez fought valiantly before being stopped in the sixth round. In August 2003, he staggered former world champion Kassim Ouma in the second round before being stopped in the eighth stanza of their 10-round fight.
Bojorquez (24-7-6, 20 KO’s) resides in Mira Loma, originally from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, is hungry for one more opportunity to a world title fight. He has fought numerous times in front of his fans in the Inland Empire and hopes to continue his unbeaten streak in this part of Southern California.
Known as “El Elegant” (the elegant one), is best known for stopping and ending the career of former world champion Pernell Whitaker in 2001, when Whitaker could not continue to fight due to an injured shoulder.
On the other hand, Ryan Davis (19-3-2, 8 KO’s) hopes that a victory over Bojorquez will spring his career towards a big money fight. Davis, a Chicago native, and a current West Coast resident, has won his last four bouts in a row. However, Bojorquez will be the first serious test for the 27-year old Davis.
In the co-feature, junior welterweight “Desert Storm” Timothy Ray Bradley Jr. will try to keep his undefeated record intact when he faces Juan Yoani Cervantes (11-16-2, 4 KOs) in a six round bout.
Bradley (7-0, 5 KOs) scored an impressive knockout victory over hard-hitting Brazilian Marcos Andre Rocha last month at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
Cervantes has been in the ring with tough opponents such as Juan Carlos Rubio, who became “Panchito” Bojado’s infamous first conqueror. He also face former world ranked Raul Franco, and he even stretched himself to fight Carlos Bojorquez way above his natural weight limit back in 1999.
It will surely by another big test for the powerful Bradley.
Rounding out the card will be identical twin brothers Daniel and Enrique Quevedo. Daniel (2-0, 1 KO) will face Missael Nunez (4-4-1) in a super bantamweight fight. Nuñez is unbeaten in his last three bouts. Brother Enrique (0-1) will face German Cruz (0-1) in a four round battle. The Quevedos dream of becoming world champions, but their number one priority is to make enough money to buy a house in Sinaloa, Mexico, where their mother still resides. These two hard-hitting twins are a delight to watch.
Also on the card, Brazilian windmill Jose Albuquerque (4-1, 2 KOs) will face scrapper Salvador Rosales (2-6, 1 KO) in a six round flyweight bout. Plus cruiserweight Israel Spencer (2-0, 2 KOs) will face rugged Joe Baker (4-6, 1 KO).
The official weigh in is set for Thursday, the 25th and it will take place at 10:30 am, at Ayres Suites Corona West, located on 1900 Frontage Ave, in Corona.
Doors at the Omega Products International open at 6:30 pm, with the first bell scheduled for 7:30 pm.
