Shields Decisions Jenkins In Lopsided Six Rounder! – In what has become a familiar scene, Jr. Middleweight Chase “White Tiger” Shields 15-0 (10 KO’s) beat an overmatched foe in Donald Jenkins 4-17-2 of Beaumont. Jenkins went on to be Shield’s fifteenth victim and punching bag for all six rounds and he added little (if any) resistance along the way. Hence, Shields improves his undefeated record to 15-0.

Unfortunately, Shields has yet to fight any legitimate opposition along the way. In fact since Shield’s turned pro, his opposition has had a combined record of 25-89! Not exactly top flight competition!

In Shield’s defense though, he was reportedly returning from a 6-month hiatus (from the ring) due to a broken foot. Hopefully though, someday soon, we’ll get to see what skills he actually possesses against better talent. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope this happens sometime before I’m putting my teeth in a jar next to the night stand at the old folks home because all of his match-ups to date have all clearly been against dominoes waiting to be knocked down.

Barnica Fight Once Again Steals Show!

Jr. Featherweight Jose “Beto” Barnica 8-0 (6 KO’s) once again put on an all out effort and knocked out tough Mexican Raul Mejia 6-5-1 (2 KO’s) at the 2:29 mark of round six in their 6 round scheduled fight. Referee Bobby Gonzalez wisely called a halt to the bout, after Mejia was on very wobbly legs after the second knock down of the round.

In a fight that ebbed and flowed with lots of action throughout, both Mejia and Barnica did what Ward and Gatti did but instead of 10 rounds they did it in six. Both brought the 500+ fans to their feet between rounds and even though Mejia’s record didn’t reflect how tough and skilled he was, Mejia came to fight and looked to take rounds one and three with his good boxing skills and tough chin. Were it not for the size advantage that Barnica obviously had, perhaps the end result would have been different but Barnica put on his usual and exciting performance nonetheless. In the end though, it was Barnica’s relentless power that determined the winner.

In a show of class, after both fighters had exited the ring, Browning Boxing graciously and deservedly honored both fighters by calling them back in ring and giving them the “Fight Of The Night Trophies.”

Jose Diaz Wins By TKO!

In the co-main event, Jose Diaz fought Lamont Lindsey of New Orleans. Diaz improved his record to 3-0 after referee Barry Yates stopped the fight 1:22 into round four. A definite case could be made that the stoppage was extremely quick, however, Lindsey was clearly hurt by Diaz’s wicked body shots in round three and he didn’t seem to be able to offer up anything of REAL significance of his own for the remainder of the fight. As a result, Lindsey drops to 1-3, while Diaz continues to steam roll the competition.

In Other Action…Mohamed Wins By KO and Finley Wins By UD!

In the second bout of the evening, Light Heavyweight Sam Mohamed 2-0 (2 KO’s) beat a very scared Casey Kincaid for all two rounds of their four round-scheduled fight. The fight ended by KO at the 1:53 mark of round 2.

Middleweight Cardel Finley improved to 5-9 when he beat experienced veteran Tyron Jackson 10-21 in their four round-scheduled fight. Referee Barry Yates deducted 2 points for low blows against Jackson in the final round, which allowed Finley to easily win by unanimous decision with scores of 38-36 twice and 39-35 all in favor of Finley. Had the point deductions not played a factor, the fight would have resulted in a draw.
