Witter And Froch Make Weight Comfortably

01.06.04 – By Elliot Worsell: Ahead of tomorrow evening’s ‘Home 2’ promotion in Nottingham, European title challengers Junior Witter and Salvatore comfortably made the prescribed 10 stone light welterweight limit for their vacant title clash. Witter, fighting out of Bradford, and looking to steal a march on rival Ricky Hatton’s shunted recent progress, weighed in at 9 stone 13 lbs and a half, while his Italian opponent Salvatore Battaglia weighed in at a fit and ready 9 stone 13 pounds and one ounce.

In the chief support contest, hometown favourite Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch, tackles Canadian southpaw Mark Woolnaugh in a bout that replaces the eagerly anticipated dual Froch was scheduled to have with British champion Tony Dodson. Froch had obviously prepared accordingly, and weighed in at 11 stone 13 pounds. Woolnaugh, a man who has campaigned at light heavyweight on occasions throughout his 18-fight career, tipped the scales at 11 stone 13 pounds and a quarter.

The third title fight of the bill saw competitors Francis Barrett and Gavin Down both slip comfortably into their 140 lb weight provision. Barrett weighing in at 9 stone 13 and three quarters, and Down coming in at 9 stone 13 pounds and a half. They duke it out for the lesser-regarded European Union light welterweight title in an even money, ‘pick em’ battle.
